Abstract

This study investigates the impact of government spending, the interaction between corruption and fiscal levels, government debt, and foreign direct investment on economic growth in seven ASEAN countries. Using the World Development Indicators database in the form of time series from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for 2000-2021. The approach used is panel data regression using a fixed effect model. The findings show that government spending and foreign direct investment have positive and significant contributions to the economic growth of seven ASEAN countries. There is strong evidence that the interaction between fiscal levels and corruption can distort the fiscal policy mechanism, thereby inhibiting economic growth. Additionally, there is strong evidence that high government debt causes economic growth to contract. Policymakers must strike a compromise between promoting economic expansion through public expenditure and preserving fiscal stability through debt management. To foster an environment that is favorable to investment, efforts to combat corruption must be constantly carried out. To promote equitable and long-term growth, authorities must also concentrate on enhancing the caliber of infrastructure and human resources.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the simultaneous relationship between poverty and PDRB variables in South Sulawesi. This type of research is quantitative which focuses on revealing simultaneous relationships between variables. The population is Poverty and PDRB data for districts/cities in South Sulawesi Province in 2020. The sample used is a saturated sample of 24 districts/cities sourced from the central statistics agency. Next, this research data was analyzed using the Two Stage Least Square (2SLS) method. The results of this research show that the poverty variable has a significant effect on PDRB at a significance level of 5%. Meanwhile, the PDRB variable has a significant effect on poverty at a significance level of 5%. So it can be concluded that there is a simultaneous relationship between PDRB and Poverty at a significance level of 5%. Control variables namely Income, Education and Expenditure have no influence on poverty. Control variables Population, PAD and HDI have a significant influence on poverty. The suggestion in this research is that regional governments, especially the province of South Sulawesi, should pay more attention to the equal distribution of income in each region to increase PDRB and also pay attention to other factors such as population, local original income and the Human Development Index (HDI).

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the role of civic society on e-governance adoption and to investigate factors that affect the performance of village-owned enterprise as well as the impact. This study is descriptive research using qualitative approach. Using in-depth interviews and direct observation to informants, the study maps some problems associated with the strategy of e-governance adoption on village-owned enterprise Pangkah Wetan. The case shows that the lack of civic society participation, which is typical across different organizations, does contribute to this problem. However, the main predicament lies with the fact that a good corporate governance principle is never explicitly prioritized in the organization’s information systems strategy. E-governance adoption should consider both technological innovation and organizational environment, including role of civic society. Neglecting one aspect poses the apparent danger that the implementation is unlikely to bring about benefit to the organization. This paper presents the case of a village-owned enterprise in adopting good corporate governance principles in developing rural economy. It is expected that this case will help substantiate an instance of good governance adoption in a village-owned enterprise and latecomer development, which might impact the operation and performance of a village-owned enterprise.

Abstract

Empirical studies show some negative effects that arise in sandwich generation households. Even the negative impact of the sandwich generation raises the behavior that they want to leave the house. However, the empirical studies only measure sandwich generation if the parents live in the households, so it is necessary to recalculate sandwich generation households in Indonesia through an interhousehold transfer mechanism. This study examines interhousehold transfer differences among sandwich-generation households between parents, siblings, and others in Indonesia. Using Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 2014, this study found that 4.539 or 28,6 percent of households are classified as the sandwich generation, both if the elderly live in the household and the elderly doesn’t live in the household. Tobit regression analysis shows that non-one-roof sandwich generation households spend an interhousehold transfer 56,4 percent higher than one-roof sandwich generation households

Abstract

Global economic instability is a challenge for the domestic economy, especially for emerging countries. A higher Federal Funds Rate for longer affects economic stability. Bank Indonesia plays a role in determining the BI rate to achieve economic goals. Indonesia as an open economy needs to consider external aspects in determining monetary policy. The Augmented Taylor Rule framework can facilitate this need to know about the determination of the BI rate. This study aims to identify the behavior of Bank Indonesia in response to the Fed's policy and the phenomenon of higher for longer. The research period was conducted from 2000Q2 - 2023Q4 using secondary data. The results of the analysis show that overall Bank Indonesia responds to an increase in the BI rate when the inflation gap increases, the output gap increases, and the rupiah depreciates. These conditions are following the Taylor Rule framework. However, in the higher for longer period there is a change in which the determination of the BI rate depends only on the output gap and the real exchange rate. The inflation gap variable has no significant effect on the determination of the BI rate. In the higher for longer period, the prioritized economic goal is a comprehensive economic recovery.

Abstract

This study examines the stability of the demand for money function in Indonesia using quarterly data from 2007 to 2021, employing Gregory-Hansen's (1996) cointegration test and Hendry's general-to-specific approaches. The cointegration and error correction models show a causal relationship between money demand and its conventional determinants and payment system innovation. Considering the central bank policy that part of economic reforms captured by the structural break in the cointegration test and the stability test results of the short-run analysis, we confirm the stable narrow money and currency demand and its dynamics in Indonesia.  The Gregory and Hansen test found a cointegrating relationship between money demand variables, with a structural break in 2011Q2, which refers to the central bank's new minimum reserve policy. The paper advises that the central bank should comprehensively understand how technological advancement in the payment system affects money demand and how prior central bank policy may induce a structural break to maintain the optimality of future monetary policy.
