Abstract

This study aims to analyse and connect the role of education within social stratification and its structure, particularly focusing on the educational sector. Education is a fundamental necessity for the development of knowledge and preparation for the future. However, a significant issue arises among lower economic classes who struggle to afford education for their children due to financial constraints. In contrast, upper economic classes are more capable of enrolling their children in expensive or even international schools. This situation creates noticeable social disparities. Furthermore, in the job market, many companies tend to prioritize applicants with a university degree (S1) over those with only a high school diploma or less, such as elementary school graduates, who often find it difficult to secure employment. This inequality raises questions about whether educational attainment significantly influences one's future success. Does obtaining a higher degree guarantee a better quality of life compared to those who only complete junior or senior high school? The objective of this research is to analyze and link educational status with social stratification levels to determine whether expensive education guarantees a better future. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, which emphasizes interpreting and understanding social phenomena in depth, supported by literature review. The analysis follows an inductive approach to uncover emerging patterns and themes. The research is grounded in Max Weber's theory of social status within socio-economic groups.

Abstract

Indonesia has implemented an educational decentralization policy for over two decades, aiming to enhance educational quality through greater autonomy at the regional and school levels. However, the consistent implementation of the national curriculum across diverse regions remains a major challenge. This study explores the managerial dynamics behind curriculum implementation in the context of decentralization, focusing on how school leaders and local education authorities navigate shifting national policies and localized capacities. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with school principals, curriculum coordinators, and education officials across multiple provinces. The findings reveal that inconsistencies in curriculum implementation are largely influenced by disparities in managerial competencies, access to training, and support systems at the local level. While decentralization provides flexibility, it often leads to uneven interpretations and applications of curriculum guidelines. Moreover, frequent curriculum reforms at the national level create additional pressures on school management, particularly in schools located in rural or under-resourced areas. This study highlights the need for a more robust managerial support system within the decentralized framework. Strengthening leadership training, improving coordination between central and local authorities, and providing clearer implementation guidelines are critical to achieving curriculum consistency. The findings offer practical insights for policymakers and educational leaders in Indonesia and other developing countries grappling with similar decentralization challenges. A balanced approach to autonomy and standardization is essential to ensure that educational equity and quality are upheld across the nation.

Abstract

Blended learning (BL) has become an essential approach in Malaysian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with Learning Management Systems (LMS) serving as the core platform for delivering digital instruction and learner support. However, students’ acceptance and satisfaction with LMS remain uneven, particularly in competency-based environments where learners depend heavily on practical guidance and technological support. This study examined the extent to which technological experience and knowledge sharing influence students perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), and overall satisfaction with LMS in a blended learning environment at a Malaysian polytechnic. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from 290 students who had used the LMS for at least one semester. Multiple regression analyses revealed that both technological experience and knowledge sharing significantly predicted PEOU, PU, and satisfaction. Technological experience emerged as the strongest contributor across all models, suggesting that students who are more technologically competent perceive the LMS as easier to use, more beneficial, and more satisfying. Knowledge sharing also played a meaningful role by enhancing students’ confidence, engagement, and perceived learning value. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening digital competencies and fostering collaborative learning practices to support effective LMS adoption. The study provides practical implications for educators and administrators seeking to optimize LMS integration in TVET-based blended learning environments.

Abstract

The persistently high unemployment rate among vocational high school (VHS) graduates in Indonesia, which reached 9.01% in 2024, indicates a critical disconnect between vocational education and labor market demands, highlighting an urgent need to investigate the factors influencing graduate work readiness. This research investigates the influence of vocational competence and work motivation on the work readiness of twelfth-grade students at public and private vocational high schools in Tambora District, West Jakarta. Prompted by ongoing graduate unemployment linked to a skills mismatch, the study utilized a quantitative survey design. The population consisted of all 102 twelfth-grade students in the Accounting and Financial Institutions and Office Management and Business Services programs, surveyed via a saturated sample. Data gathered from questionnaires were analyzed using multiple correlation, coefficient of determination, and multiple linear regression. Results show a strong positive relationship (r = 0.788) between the independent variables and work readiness. With an R² of 0.792, vocational competence and work motivation explain 79.2% of the variance in readiness, underscoring the critical role of competency development. The study concludes that vocational schools should prioritize industry-aligned, competency-based learning to better prepare students for the workforce.

Abstract

Learning media are crucial in English language teaching, particularly in vocational training contexts where learners have specific practical and occupational needs. This study aims to examine the types of learning media used and participant engagement during English learning activities in a vocational training institution. A qualitative case study design was employed in an English training class at Balai Pelatihan Vokasi dan Produktivitas (BPVP) Bantaeng. The study was based on reflective teaching practices, classroom observations, and document analysis conducted over a four-year period from 2019 to 2022.The findings show that various types of learning media were used in the training class, including digital media, audio-visual media, and printed instructional materials. These media were supported by adequate classroom facilities and infrastructure. Participant engagement was observed in behavioural, emotional, and cognitive dimensions, particularly during interactive, media-supported, and vocationally relevant activities. Digital and audio-visual media, such as videos and interactive tasks were found to encourage active participation and positive learning attitudes. However, the study also identified several challenges in the use of learning media, including technical constraints, time limitations, differences in participants’ digital readiness, and instructor preparedness. These challenges affected the consistency and depth of media use during learning activities. Overall, the study suggests that learning media can effectively support participant engagement in vocational English training when they are carefully selected, contextually relevant, and supported by appropriate instructional strategies. This research contributes context-specific insights into learning media use and engagement in vocational EFL settings.

Abstract

The increasing concern over moral degradation among elementary school children underscores the urgent need to examine how educational materials can serve as a medium for character formation. This study investigates the moral values embedded in the Indonesian language textbook Bahasa Indonesia: Aku Bisa! for first-grade students (2023 revised edition) and examines how these values are represented through a multimodal discourse analysis approach. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, applying multimodal discourse analysis grounded in Moral Foundations Theory and the national Character Education Reinforcement framework. The research object was the entire textbook, which comprises eight thematic chapters. Data were collected by systematically identifying and documenting all verbal and visual elements within the book, including written texts, illustrations, symbols, and interactive learning activities. The findings indicate that moral values such as care, fairness, loyalty, respect for authority, and sanctity are presented contextually and integratively throughout the textbook. These align with core character education principles including religiosity, nationalism, independence, cooperation, and integrity. Narrative structures, visual representations, and participatory tasks work together to foster a holistic moral understanding among young learners. Overall, the textbook not only facilitates foundational literacy development but also plays a strategic role in character formation aligned with the Pancasila Student Profile. The study highlights the importance of incorporating multimodal design in textbook development as an effective approach to strengthening character education.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital communication technologies has fundamentally altered social interaction patterns worldwide, with university students representing a demographic particularly immersed in these transformations. This study examines the transformation of student social interaction in the digital era from a contemporary sociological perspective, focusing specifically on the Indonesian higher education context while situating these dynamics within broader global trends. The rapid expansion of digital communication platforms has reconfigured patterns of interaction, social engagement, and the construction of social relationships among university students. This research aims to analyze how digital environments reshape forms of communication, social bonding, and identity formation within student communities in Indonesia, a context characterized by high social media penetration and a young, digitally native population. Using a qualitative approach based on literature review and conceptual analysis, this study draws upon contemporary sociological theories of network society, reflexive modernity, and digital sociality to interpret current interactional dynamics. The findings indicate that student interactions are increasingly mediated by digital platforms, resulting in shifts from face-to-face communal relations toward network-based connectivity. While digital media expand access to information and social networks, they also contribute to fragmented interactions, performative identities, and the redefinition of collective belonging. The study concludes that the transformation of social interaction in the digital era reflects broader structural changes in late modern society, where technology becomes an integral dimension of everyday social life. This research contributes to sociological discourse by contextualizing student social practices within contemporary theoretical frameworks.

Abstract

The critical period of phonological development in early childhood, where pronunciation errors can impact communication and subsequent language skills, serves as the background for this research. This research explores phonological acquisition in 2-year-old children in the city of Magelang in a study of the Indonesian language. The primary objective is to identify and describe the specific phonological patterns, including the mastery of vowels and consonants, and the common simplifications or errors present in their speech. The observational method involves data collection through recording children’s conversations in their natural home environments, which were then transcribed and analyzed for phonetic and phonological features. The research results indicate individual variations in phonological acquisition, identifying developmental patterns and differences influenced by the environment. Key findings reveal that while vowel sounds are generally acquired early, significant variation exists in the production of consonants, with certain phonemes like /r/ and /s/ often being substituted or omitted. The study also highlights the strong influence of the local Magelang dialect and parental input on the children’s emerging sound systems. Phonological analysis is conducted to understand changes in sound usage, vocabulary development, and the role of social interaction in shaping correct speech patterns. This study contributes to the understanding of phonological acquisition in the Indonesian language among preschool children, with practical implications for the development of educational strategies and interventions in Magelang city. In conclusion, the research underscores the interplay between universal developmental sequences and environmental factors in shaping early phonological competence.
