Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesehatan mental para siswa yang menggunakan Instagram di Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kendari sebagai Pendidikan Tinggi Islam terbesar di Sulawesi Tenggara. Para peneliti mewawancarai 50 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang menggunakan Instagram dengan intensitas tinggi memiliki kesehatan mental negatif. Itu dibuktikan dengan persepsi mereka yang tidak akurat terhadap representasi diri mereka. Mereka menilai dan merasakan keberadaan mereka berdasarkan berapa banyak pengikut mengetik "cinta" di posting mereka. Bahkan, mereka akan merasa sangat terganggu, tidak bahagia dan marah jika ada yang mengkritik jabatan mereka dan ketika pengikut mereka mulai berkurang. Mereka juga akan sering menunggu berapa banyak orang yang akan menanggapi posting baru mereka. Mereka serius membuat cerita Instagram mereka sebagai sarana untuk mewakili diri mereka sendiri kepada orang lain seperti yang diinginkan. Kegiatan penggunaan Instagram perlu diajarkan dengan baik agar tidak memiliki dampak negatif pada siswa, terutama untuk kesehatan mental mereka.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tuturan direktif bahasa pengasuhan anak pra-sekolah di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian studi kasus. Data penelitian berupa tuturan direktif guru terhadap siswa dan tuturan siswa terhadap guru yang mengandung kesantunan.Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode observasi. Analisis data dilakukan secara tematik dan menggunakan paramater kesantunan linguistik tuturan direktif Kunjana (2005). Hasil penelitian ini melaporkan bahwa penanda kesantunan tuturan direktif bahasa pengasuhan guru terhadap anak-anak pra-sekolah itu berupa penggunaan penanda partikel, seperti ki, ta, ji, iyye, yadalam bahasa Bugis dan penggunaan penanda kesantunan berbentuk kata, seperti kata kekerabatan dan kata julukan. Demikian pula, tuturan direktif guru kepada anak-anak pra-sekolah direalisasikan dalam bentuk kalimat sederhana baik yang berbentuk kalimat pendek maupun panjang. Penelitian ini mengimplikasikan dua hal, yaitu implikasi konseptual dan implikasi  praktis. Secara konseptual, penelitian mengembangkan konsep ‘menjaga muka’ Brown dan Levinson (1987), sementara secara praktis, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat digunakan oleh para guru sekolah untuk senantiasa menerapkan bahasa santun kepada anak didiknya. Penggunaan bahasa santun itu tentu dapat memengaruhi kejiwaan anak dan di masa mendatang mereka dapat meniru perkataan santun yang disampaikan ke mereka. Kata kunci:anak-anak prasekolah, bahasa pengasuhan, Indonesia, kesantunan linguistik, tindak tutur direktifAbstractThis researchaims to elucidate directive pre-school parenting language in Indonesia. This research adopted a case study research design. The utterances of teacher to student containing politeness and vise versa used as the main data. To collect data, observational partisipant was utilized.  Data analysis was carried out thematically and using the linguistic politeness parameter of Kunjana's directive speech (2005). This study reported that politeness markers of directive speech acts incorporate the using of politeness markers particle, such as ki, ta, ji, iyye, ya, sini in Buginesse language and politenesswords, like kinships and nicknames. Likewise, the teacher's directive speech to pre-school children is realized in the form of simple sentences, both in the form of short and long sentences. This research implied conceptual and practical implications. Conceptually, this research extends the concept 'face threatening act' of Brown and Levinson (1987), while practically, this evidence is expected to be used by school teachers to always apply polite language to their students. The use of polite language can certainly affect children's psyche and in the future they can imitate polite words conveyed to them.Keywords:directive speech act, linguistics politeness, parenting language, pre-school children, Indonesia

Abstract

Kesantunan berbahasa tidak hanya terjadi di dalam situasi resmi, normal, dan dalam komunikasi yang baik, tetapi juga dalam situasi tidak resmi, tidak normal, dan penutur dalam keadaan marah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas bentuk kesantunan berbahasa seseorang yang sedang marah. Data diperoleh di Sumatera Barat. Data dikumpulkan melalui mencatat, merekam, dan melakukan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan konsep kesantunan dan kekerasan verbal terhadap wanita. Hasil temuan dianalisis secara deskriptif yang ditambahi dengan beberapa tabel untuk menyajikan data tertentu. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa ada empat bentuk kesantunan di dalam kekerasan verbal domestik terhadap wanita, yaitu permintaan, penolakan, janji, dan ekpresif. Kesantunan dalam bentuk permintaan menjadi pola yang dominan, yaitu 37%. Hal demikian terjadi karena penutur menginginkan wanita atau istrinya melakukan apa yang mereka minta.Kata kunci: kesantunan, kekerasan verbal, wanita, pragmatik, IndonesiaPoliteness happens in good situations not only in regular dan formal conversations with the speaker, but also in non-formal and irregular conversation, and the speaker is in a bad situation. This article is, then,  aimed at describing the forms of the politeness of the speakers who are in anger. The objective of the study is to identify the forms politeness in that verbal violence. The data were taken in Sumatera Barat. To obtain the data, the observational method with note-taking, recording, and interviewing was conducted. Fifteen women were being interviewed, and thirteen men (husband) from Sumatera Barat.  The data were analyzed by using the concept of politeness (Oktavianus Revita, 2013) and verbal violence against women (Cantwell, Farzanegan, Khan, 2000). The result of the analysis is descriptively done in which some tables and charts were used to display the number of the occurrence of certain data. The percentage was also used. The findings pointed out that there were four forms of politeness in domestic verbal violence. They are politeness of 1) request; 2) refusal; 3) promise; and 4) expressiveness. Politeness of requests occurs most dominantly because the speakers wanted these women to do what they expected.

Abstract

Albeit the studies on Matan Jurumiyah Book have been extensively conducted, few studies have been focusing on the critical content of Kitab Matan Jurumiyah. To fill the gap, this research aims to examine why Matan Jurumiyah Book is not applicable for novice Arabic learners. To collect the data, observation and in-depth interviews were conducted. The results of the study show that the material of the Matan Jurumiyah is not relevant to be used for the novice learners due to (1) the conciseness and condensation of the book contents, (2) the lackness of Arabic basic knowledge, (3) the raising of new problems for novice learners because of the number of syarah or explanation over the Book of Matan Jurumiyah. That empirical evidence was anchored to the internal and external factors. Internal factors are closely related to the dichotomy of syntax and morphology while external factors are related to the absence of consideration of the Indonesian context and are arranged in a deductive way. Therefore, this study recommends empirical, contextual, and policy implications for the readers.

Abstract

Humor is important among educators to refresh their mind from busy work, strengthen friendship and interpersonal relationship, create happiness, and to improve working performance and cooperation of both personal and professional matters. This study aims to examine the humor in the perspective of linguistics and psychology, especially the semantic aspect among colleagues of lecturers in Islamic universities of Indonesia. A qualitative-descriptive method was employed to analyze data which were collected through participants’ observation and in-depth interview. The results indicate that to create humor from a linguistic perspective, lecturers used polysemy and homonym aspects as part of the language game. Polysemy is only a word while homonym is a word, abbreviation, and acronym. The words that indicate polysemy is margacinta, hawa, and kopi, while the words that indicate homonyms in the form of words maroko, farj, and tabrakan. On the other hand, the abbreviation homonymy is found in the phrases of peraturan pemerintah and pembimbing akademik and the acronyms are found in words akper, jatol, jaka, marisa and jelita. This language game then creates a joyful atmosphere among lecturers which ultimately affects their interpersonal relationships. The proximity of interpersonal relations also has implications for better employment relations and increased productivity to do works assigned to them. Finally, this research confirms that language games such as polysemy and homonymy can also be used to create humor aimed not only to refresh mind but also to create happiness and improve work performance to increase productivity in universities.Keywords: Humor, happiness, relationship, lecturer, Islamic Higher Education.

Abstract

Humor is an essential part everyday communications and it is a fundamental facet of work relationships. Hence, humor becomes extremely significant, particularly for teaching colleagues in Indonesia during break after teaching. Humor can enhance communication, self-confidence and intimacy, reduce stress, release fatigue and tension, motivate to work and stimulate creativity. With humor, teaching colleagues can discuss how to enhance teaching skills and utilize good media in learning process. This study aimed to examine the utilization of humor among teaching colleagues in Islamic State Institute of Kendari as one of the Islamic higher educations in Indonesia. Descriptive qualitative method was utilized to analyze data in this research. Interviewing, observing, and documenting were conducted to collect data. The research results revealed that in creating humor, teaching colleagues often utilize linguistic aspects such as phonological aspects. Those phonological aspects are substitution, permutation, decreasing, and addition. Those tend to utilize adaptive humor style pioneered by Martin et al. (2003) which can elevate happiness among teaching colleagues. When they feel happy, their work performance either individually or in a group to complete certain works will be improved, as well as their work relationship, cooperation and collaboration. Finally, this research confirms that phonological aspect is one of language elements to create humor and could affect the happiness which leads the lecturers to have good interpersonal relation, cooperation and collaboration in undertaking certain jobs among teaching colleagues in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article aims at describing the forms of politeness of the STAIN Kendari's students and their lecturers in interaction. The data are any utterances uttered in campus  by using descriptive-qualitative approach, it is a found that the students use some kinds of modes in implementing politeness. They are declarative and interogative sentence to express the politeness and imperetive for impoliteness. Besides, the use of complete sentence with commonly chronological order is indicating the politeness. The less complete sentence with inverisive order reflects the impoliteness.

Abstract

Abstrak: Al-Hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah di dalam al-Qur’an dipandang oleh sebagian umat Islam tekstualis hanya sebagai simbol yang sakral tanpa makna, sehingga tidak menunjukkan sisi kemanfatannya sebagai pedoman. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna ayat al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah dalam Q.S. al-Baqarah/2: 1., dengan menggunakan metode kajian literatur yang meliputi tafsir, sastra bahasa Arab dan sejarah. Analisis data menggunakan pendekatan gramatikal bahasa Arab secara tekstual dan historis secara kontekstual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah menjadi potret bagi sumber dan proses turunnya al-Qur’an secara autentik yang menunjukkan kelemahan sastra Arab saat berhadapan dengan wahyu. Keistimewaan al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah terletak pada nilai sastra dan kedalaman makna yang seyogianya dapat berperan aktif sebagai perekat ayat-ayat al-Qur’an lainnya secara holistik.Abstract: The Interpretation Discourse of Verses of al-Hurûf al-Muqaththa‘ah: Textual and Contextual Analysis. This article aims to reveal the meaning of the verse al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah in the Q.S. al-Baqarah/2: 1 by employing a historical and literature review method with textual and historical context grammatical approaches data analysis. The results of the study show that it portray the source and process of authentic Qur’an revelation. The mysterious eloquence of al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah lies in the literary value and the depth of meaning even though it consists only of a series of letters. The effort of the commentator to uncover the meaning of the verses of al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘ah should be able to play an active role as the uniting factor for other Qur’anic verses holistically. Therefore, a set of methods or approaches is required that is adequate to uncover the meaning that is in accordance with the thematic contexts of the verse.Kata Kunci: al-hurûf al-muqaththa‘âh, pendekatan tekstual, pendekatan kontekstual, penafsiran, al-Qur’an

Abstract

Albeit the research into Junaid Sulaeman as the most famous Islamic Cleric in South Sulawesi was extensively undertaken, little empirical research addressed his political biography. This research aimed to explore his political Hijrah from Islamic fundamentalism to Islamic moderate. This research adopted a biography study design. To collect data, a documentary analysis based on Junaid Sulaeman’s diary and in-depth interview were conducted. The data analysis was carried out thematically using Azra’s and Al-Jauhari’s concept of fundamental and moderate Islam. The research revealed three findings. First, Junaid Sulaeman’s political Hijrah was conducted from Darul Islam toward Golongan Karya party. Second, the factors that drove Junaid Sulaeman’s participation in the political movement included the changing of socio-political context, the breadth and depth of his religious knowledge, the need to get Allah's guidance, and the consideration of dawah. Third, the implications of Junaid Sulaeman's political movement were known from the expansion of his local and national network, as well as the development of socio-religious institutions in Bone. The research concluded that a good cooperation between the ulama and the government could provide more benefits and blessings to the community.
