Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find the curriculum model of Ma'had Aly Iqna' Ath-Thalibin Sarang in the reproduction of ulama cadres, as well as to discover its implementation in learning. This research was conducted using a descriptive approach and a qualitative research design. The descriptive approach in the context of this research is used to seek and provide an overview of the form and implementation of the Ma'had 'Aly educational curriculum. This study employs several techniques, including non-participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. Data validity tests were conducted using triangulation of techniques and sources. Data analysis was performed interactively and continuously until the data was completed, according to Miles and Huberman. The research results indicate that Ma'had Aly Iqna' Ath-Thalibin Sarang integrates courses that are distinctive or specific to its major namely tasawuf, based on the reference of the Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation (PMA) which requires several general subjects. This curriculum is implemented using two learning strategies. That is, in the form of face-to-face and non-face-to-face. In the face-to-face format, the methods used are bandongan, sorogan, and mudzakaroh. Meanwhile, the non-face-to-face format is realized in the form of bahtsul masail, assignments, both individually and in groups. Overall, the implementation and evaluation framework at MAIT Sarang demonstrate a balanced approach between traditional Islamic pedagogy and modern academic standards, aiming to produce ulama who are intellectually competent, spiritually grounded, and socially responsible.

Abstract

In the era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, students are increasingly exposed to complex challenges that affect their personal, social, and academic development. A competitive educational environment, unrestricted access to information, and dynamic social interactions require students to develop not only cognitive and emotional intelligence, but also spiritual intelligence that provides meaning, values, and moral direction in their lives. Spiritual intelligence plays a crucial role in helping students navigate ethical dilemmas, manage inner conflicts, and develop a sense of purpose. However, previous studies indicate that contemporary education tends to prioritize intellectual achievement and academic performance. Learning processes are often dominated by cognitive demands such as memorization, conceptual understanding, and test-oriented outcomes, while the internalization of spiritual and moral values receives relatively limited attention. As a result, students may achieve academic success but exhibit weaknesses in spiritual awareness, moral sensitivity, and self-regulation. This condition highlights a gap between educational goals and the holistic development of students, particularly in the spiritual dimension. In this context, the role of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers becomes highly significant. Although earlier research has emphasized the contribution of religious education to character formation, many studies focus mainly on curriculum or learning outcomes rather than students’ lived experiences. Therefore, this study employs a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to explore how students perceive and experience the role of PAI teachers in enhancing spiritual intelligence. The findings reveal that PAI teachers function as spiritual role models, facilitators of religious activities, and spiritual mentors. At SMAN 1 Pamanukan, spiritual development is strengthened through religious habituation, Islamic school culture, student involvement in charitable activities and ROHIS, and reflective use of Islamic holidays and moments of calamity.

Abstract

Islamic education evolves within diverse socio-cultural and political contexts in Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority countries, directly affecting its governance, legitimacy, and sustainability. These differences generate structural challenges related to secularism, religious identity, and state involvement in Islamic education. This study aims to analyze and compare the governance of Islamic education in Spain and Indonesia from a socio-cultural perspective. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 framework and the PISCo approach, synthesizing 18 Scopus-indexed scholarly and Google Scholar articles. The findings indicate that Islamic education in Spain operates under a top-down and formal-legal governance system, strongly shaped by secularism and the minority status of Muslims, resulting in institutional constraints and persistent Islamophobia. In contrast, Islamic education in Indonesia develops through a plural and community-based governance model that integrates religious values with local culture in a Muslim-majority society. This study implies that sustainable Islamic education requires inclusive, contextual, and participatory governance models capable of addressing socio-cultural diversity while promoting religious moderation and social cohesion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of the Bantuan Kinerja dan Afirmasi (BKBA) within the Madrasah Reform Program initiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the World Bank to improve the quality of governance and educational services in madrasahs. The study focuses on two madrasahs with distinct characteristics: MIS Assubkiyah in Rawalumbu, Bekasi (urban area) and Jamiyatul Usbuiyah in Pandeglang, Serang (rural area). The research employs a qualitative approach using a comparative case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews using purposive sampling techniques, and documentation. The data were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, supported by source triangulation to ensure validity. The results indicate that BKBA management in both madrasahs covers the aspects of planning, implementation, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation. MIS Assubkiyah demonstrates more effective governance due to stronger human resources, higher digital literacy, and transformational leadership, whereas Jamiyatul Usbuiyah encounters limitations related to facilities and managerial capacity. Internal factors influencing the effectiveness of management include the leadership of the madrasah principal, team commitment, and work culture, while external factors involve assistance from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, technical support, and geographical conditions. The tangible impacts of the BKBA are reflected in the improvement of physical facilities, the modernization of digital learning, and enhanced transparency in financial governance. This study concludes that the effectiveness of BKBA management is strongly influenced by the application of Performance-Based Management principles, which emphasize transparency, accountability, and collective participation. Strengthening mentoring and digital management training is needed to ensure the sustainability of the program and its contribution to improving the quality of Islamic education.
