Abstract

Tolerance is a core value in Islam that is derived from the Qur'an and Hadith, emphasising social harmony and respect for differences. Verses like QS. Al-Baqarah: 256 and QS. Al-Mumtahanah: 8, as well as the hadiths on human relationships, show that diversity is part of the divine will. However, erroneous or limited interpretations can lead to practices that are contrary to these values. Therefore, a contextual approach is important to maintain the relevance of the teachings of tolerance in Islam in the modern era. Islamic educational institutions have a strategic role in instilling the values of tolerance through the curriculum, education, and cultural practices of the school. This study emphasises the importance of reinterpreting religious teachings to answer contemporary socio-cultural challenges, as well as the integration of tolerance values that combine faith, science, and humanity. However, there are significant challenges in interpreting the postulates of tolerance contextually, such as resistance from textualist groups, the dominance of traditionalist perspectives, and ideological pressure. To answer this challenge, a deep interpretive approach from thinkers such as Quraish Shihab and Amin Abdullah is needed for religious texts to make a positive contribution to pluralistic and peaceful societies. This article bridges the gap between textual and contextual studies of tolerance in Islam. By analysing the Qur'an and Hadith, this study enriches the academic discourse on universal values in Islamic teachings and the importance of education as a means of internalising these values. The article also proposes practical strategies, including curriculum reform and teacher training based on Islamic universal values, to build a tolerant and inclusive generation. Empirically based follow-up studies are recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of tolerance values in various types of Islamic educational institutions, both madrasas, Islamic boarding schools, and modern Islamic schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine, analyze and reveal whether the character education policy can be implemented effectively at UIN Datokarama Palu. Qualitative research method. The research location is at Datokarama State Islamic University Palu. Informants as many as 7 people were selected purposively. Data collection was conducted using interview, observation and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The theory that is used as a reference in this research is the theory of George C. Edward III (2010: 96-110) by looking at four factors of successful policy implementation, namely communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. The results showed that only three factors were quite effective, namely communication, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. Meanwhile, the resource factor tends to be less effective because of the four resource elements studied, two elements are ineffective, namely the quantity of staff (human resources) is relatively minimal. Similarly, the facilities that are expected to support the successful implementation of character education policies are still not in accordance with the demands of the needs. The causal factors include the limited formation of new lecturer appointments and the natural disasters of the earthquake, tsunami and liquefaction that hit the Datokarama Palu State Islamic University Campus. Novelty in this research is that the implementation of character education policies is not only seen as the implementation of the main tasks of the implementers but also interpreted as a worship that can be a source of jariah charity.

Abstract

The research aims to explore how future technology influences the evolution of student spirituality within the Sufi context, particularly in the practice of the Naqshbandi Tariqah. The findings indicate that future technology has significant potential to enhance accessibility to spiritual or tasawuf resources, such as classical texts, lectures, and educational materials. Additionally, virtual communities play a crucial role in supporting interaction and sharing spiritual experiences among students. Technology also enriches spiritual experiences through meditation apps, lecture videos, and online discussion forums. However, the study also identifies several risks associated with the use of technology, such as distractions from irrelevant content, the selection of inappropriate content, and limitations in facilitating direct meetings with spiritual communities and mentors. Therefore, it is important to develop well-curated digital platforms, digital education programs, and safe and supportive virtual communities, while continuing to facilitate face-to-face meetings for deeper and more authentic spiritual experiences. The study concludes that future technology can be a powerful tool in developing the spirituality of STAI Al-Falah Cicalengka Bandung students who follow the Naqshbandi Tariqah, provided there is awareness of its risks and limitations.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy in Islamic Higher Education (PTKI) represents a significant shift in Indonesia’s education system. This study evaluates the impact of MBKM on PTKI institutions using sentiment analysis and automatic text summarization. By analyzing 2,416 tweets (2020-2023) from PTKI academics, this study highlights perceptions, challenges, and policy implications. Results indicate that 82.76% of tweets expressed positive sentiment, emphasizing the benefits of MBKM in curriculum flexibility and industry collaboration. However, 17.24% of tweets highlighted challenges, including policy mismanagement, unclear implementation, and student stress. To enhance policy effectiveness, this study recommends stronger institutional support, clearer policy guidelines, and enhanced digital infrastructure to ensure MBKM benefits all PTKI students equitably.

Abstract

In facing the dynamics of contemporary Islamic education, it is necessary to conduct studies that examine curriculum models based on traditional values that can adapt to the evolving times. This study examines the curriculum design of Imam As-Shafi'i and its relevance to Islamic education in Indonesia, particularly competency-based learning systems oriented toward character strengthening and knowledge integration. Using a qualitative approach through a literature study, this research conducts a descriptive- analytical examination of the educational curriculum structure of Imam As- Shafi'i and how its core values can be adapted to modern Islamic education systems. The findings show that Imam As-Shafi'i's educational curriculum emphasizes a balanced integration of Sharia knowledge, rational thought, and character formation based on dialogical learning that enhances students' critical and analytical thinking skills. Additionally, the curriculum developed by Imam As-Shafi'i highlights the importance of the ijtihad methodology in understanding religious texts, providing flexibility in its application across different historical and contextual settings. Furthermore, Imam As-Shafi'i's curriculum approach to learning ultimately encourages active interaction between teachers and students through discussion methods and argumentation based on textual evidence. This model not only shapes students with high analytical abilities but also encourages them to think independently in understanding and applying knowledge. This competency- based educational curriculum aligns with the needs of modern education systems, which emphasize problem-solving skills and adaptability to social and technological changes.

Abstract

Student politics has long been an integral part of Bangladesh’s political landscape, profoundly shaping the nation’s political culture. This paper investigates the role of student politics in shaping the political culture of Bangladesh, focusing on recent trends. Historically, student movements have been powerful catalysts for socio-political change, from the Language Movement of 1952 to the Liberation War of 1971. However, the contemporary landscape of student politics has shifted towards partisanship and career-driven motives, often fostering campus violence and undermining democratic values. Using a qualitative methodology, including a review of literature and data analysis from secondary sources, this study aims to analyze the interplay between student politics and political culture. The findings reveal student politics' constructive and destructive impacts on Bangladesh’s socio-political framework. The study concludes with recommendations for reform to realign student politics with its democratic potential.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs and develop the curriculum of the Public Administration study program to better support the management and development of sharia-based tourism villages. The findings indicate that the current curriculum remains general and does not fully integrate sharia principles within public administration, making it less effective in preparing graduates with the necessary competencies in this field. The primary challenges identified include a lack of understanding of sharia concepts in public administration, limited expertise among educators, and insufficient reference materials and supporting content related to sharia-based tourism. As a solution, this study proposes a curriculum development model that incorporates sharia principles into public administration courses, practical training, and internship programs in sharia-based tourism villages, as well as continuous training and workshops for students and educators. The implementation of this model is expected to enhance the quality of graduates by equipping them with the skills required to manage and develop sharia-based tourism villages effectively. The successful application of this curriculum requires collaboration among educational institutions, government agencies, and local communities to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability. Thus, the Public Administration program can make a significant contribution to the sustainable and inclusive development of sharia-based tourism villages while supporting broader national development goals.

Abstract

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is an increasingly important educational approach to support students' social, emotional, and academic development. This study aims to explore various approaches and strategies for implementing SEL in elementary schools and to identify their impact on students' academic achievement and social-emotional skills development. The method used was a systematic literature review (SLR) based on the PRISMA guidelines. Articles were obtained from leading academic databases such as ScienceDirect, ERIC, and DOAJ, with a publication coverage between January 2021 and March 2025. Of the 250 articles identified, 13 met the selection criteria and were further analyzed. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of SEL, both through classroom-based approaches and whole-school approaches, has a significant positive impact on improving academic achievement and the development of students' social-emotional skills, such as self-awareness, emotional management, and social interaction skills. The program's success is greatly influenced by supportive school leadership, active teacher involvement, and the use of learning media sensitive to cultural contexts. The practical implications of these findings suggest the importance of integrating SEL into the elementary school curriculum and the need for ongoing training for teachers and policy support from education stakeholders to create holistic and inclusive learning environments.
