Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of student participation in guidance and counseling  sevices, which is presumed to be related to their perceptions of the counselor’s personality. A positive perception of the counselor’s personality is believed to encourage openness and enthusiasm, while a negative perception may lead to resistance toward counseling services. This study aims to determine the influence of students’ perceptions of the GC teacher’s personality on their attitudes toward participating in GC services at SMP RK Deli Murni Delitua. This research employed a quantitative correlational method with a population of 400 students and a sample of 200 students selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and analyzed using simple linear regression assisted by SPSS software. The results showed a positive but weak influence between students’ perceptions of the GC teacher’s personality and their attitudes in participating in GC services, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.249 and a determination coefficient of 0.057. This means that students’ perceptions contributed 5.7% to their attitudes, while the remaining 94.3% were influenced by other factors. The study concludes that the more positive students’ perceptions of the GC teacher’s personality, the more positive their attitudes toward counseling services. It is recommended that GC teachers strengthen their interpersonal communication and build warmer relationships with students, and that schools support efforts to improve the image and effectiveness of guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between permissive parenting styles and students’ aggressive behavior at SMA Negeri 2 Medan. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was employed. The sample consisted of 70 eleventh-grade students selected using purposive sampling based on school counselors’ records regarding aggressive behavior and parental parenting style characteristics. The research instruments included a permissive parenting questionnaire and an aggressive behavior questionnaire, each developed based on established theoretical indicators. The results of hypothesis testing revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship between permissive parenting and students’ aggressive behavior, with a correlation coefficient of 0.435 and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This finding indicates that higher levels of permissive parenting are associated with a greater tendency for students to exhibit aggressive behavior. The study recommends increased attention and targeted interventions by school counselors to identify and address students who come from permissive parenting backgrounds.

Abstract

Self-confidence is an essential aspect of adolescent development; however, most students at SMA Negeri 18 Medan are still categorized as having a moderate level of self-confidence. Classical guidance services can help enhance students’ self-confidence, yet conventional media are often perceived as less engaging by students. Therefore, this study employed the “Self Dev” podcast as an alternative medium that is interactive and easily accessible. The aims of this study were to describe students’ self-confidence and to examine the effect of classical guidance services using podcast media on students’ self-confidence. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a Control Group with Active Intervention. The research population consisted of 175 students, while the sample was selected using purposive sampling, involving 70 students divided into an experimental group and a control group. The research instrument was a self-confidence questionnaire covering four aspects: belief in one’s own abilities, courage in facing challenges, self-acceptance, and feelings of being worthy of appreciation, adapted from Alkhaldi et al. (2021). Of the 50 questionnaire items, 39 were declared valid; after a re-validation process, 30 items were retained with high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.896). The prerequisite analysis indicated that the data were normally distributed and had homogeneous variances. The results of the independent samples t-test showed a significant increase in self-confidence in the experimental group compared to the control group (p = 0.048; mean difference = 2.342). Thus, it can be concluded that classical guidance using the Self Dev podcast by Andreas Bordes is effective in improving students’ self-confidence.

Abstract

Career planning is a crucial aspect of student development, as it determines future directions after completing secondary education. However, many students still demonstrate inadequate levels of career maturity, which hinders their ability to make career choices aligned with their interests and potential. This study aimed to analyze the level of career maturity among students at SMA Negeri 1 Pintu Pohan Meranti and to identify the aspects that most influence their readiness in making career decisions. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, involving 40 students as respondents who completed a 38-item Likert-scale questionnaire. The research instrument measured four dimensions of career maturity: career planning, career information exploration, informational competence, and career decision-making. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency and mean calculations, and total scores were classified into low, moderate, and high categories. The results revealed that 32.5% of students were categorized as having low career maturity, 35.0% as moderate, and 32.5% as high. These findings indicate that the majority of students exhibit low to moderate levels of career maturity, underscoring the importance of systematic and structured career guidance services in schools. This study provides practical implications for guidance and counseling teachers in designing more targeted and effective interventions to enhance students’ career maturity.

Abstract

The transformation of social interaction from physical spaces to digital environments has created new and complex dynamics in the process of students’ character formation. This study aims to analyze the influence of peer interactions in the digital era on students’ morality and behavior, as well as to formulate relevant mitigation strategies. The study employed a literature review method by examining 15 scholarly articles and reference books published between 2018 and 2025. Data were analyzed using content analysis to synthesize patterns of relationships between digital interactions and changes in student character. The findings indicate that social media–based peer interaction has become a dominant agent of socialization, triggering the phenomenon of digital conformity. This condition contributes to character vulnerability, including the erosion of self-control, gadget addiction, and diminished empathy resulting from the normalization of cyber bullying. These findings suggest that conventional forms of supervision are no longer sufficient to counteract the negative impacts of online interactions. Therefore, this study recommends a reorientation of character education through the integration of digital literacy and the cultivation of internet ethics (netiquette) within school curricula to strengthen students’ moral resilience amid the global flow of information.
