Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women, including in Indonesia. Early detection of breast cancer can be done through Breast Self-Examination (SADARI), yet the practice of SADARI remains low, especially among teenage girls. This study aims to determine the relationship between breast cancer knowledge and SADARI behavior among female students at SMAN 1 Krueng Barona Jaya, Aceh Besar Regency. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 53 respondents selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents had insufficient knowledge of breast cancer (81.1%) and did not perform SADARI (75.5%). Statistical testing revealed a significant relationship between breast cancer knowledge and SADARI behavior with a p-value of 0.045. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between breast cancer knowledge and SADARI behavior among the female students. Increased health education regarding breast cancer and SADARI is greatly needed as an early detection effort.

Abstract

ISPA (Acute Respiratory Tract Infection) is an acute infectious disease that attacks one or more respiratory organs that can last for 2 weeks. Based on data from the DKI Jakarta Health Office, approximately 1.9 million cases of ISPA were recorded from early January to October 2025. South Jakarta alone handled 453,725 ISPA cases until October 2025. Meanwhile, the Bengkulu City Health Office showed an astonishing number, with 5,142 ISPA cases in toddlers (children under five years old) and 24,849 cases in children over five years old during the period from January to September 2025. Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ISPA) is caused by bacteria and viruses. ISPA is often suffered by children and is also a major killer. This outreach activity aims to help reduce the transmission of ISPA and increase knowledge about ISPA in children at Posyandu RT.06 RW.02, Jalan Gedang Village, Gading Cempaka District, Bengkulu City. ARI is consistently ranked second most frequently occurring disease based on the number of visits to the Jalan Gedang Community Health Center in Bengkulu City. The method used in outreach is education about ARI. This is expected to increase public awareness of ISPA, thereby reducing the rate of ISPA transmission.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus remain major public health problems in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas with limited access to health information. Dusun II, Watas Marga Village, Rejang Lebong Regency, is one of the areas with increasing behavioral risk factors, including smoking habits, low physical activity, and unhealthy diet. This community service program aims to improve public knowledge regarding NCD prevention through structured education, demonstrations, and health screening. The activities consisted of counseling on hypertension and diabetes risk factors, proper dietary practices, physical activity guidelines, and early detection through blood pressure and blood glucose checks. Collaboration was carried out with village cadres and local health workers. The results showed an increase in public understanding regarding the importance of early detection, reduced sugar–salt–fat consumption, and lifestyle modification. Participants demonstrated improved awareness as indicated by the shift from “low” to “good” knowledge categories in the post-education assessment. This activity proved effective as a promotive and preventive strategy to reduce NCD risk at the community level. Sustainable education and cross-sector collaboration are needed to support long-term NCD prevention in Watas Marga Village.

Abstract

Smoking is a major risk factor for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and contributes substantially to morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. The high prevalence of active smokers in rural areas highlights the need for more intensive and targeted health education. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of residents in Dusun II, Watas Marga Village, regarding the dangers of smoking, the impact of second-hand smoke on family members, and initial steps toward smoking cessation. The intervention consisted of interactive counseling, group discussions, demonstrations of the effects of cigarette smoke on the lungs, and the distribution of educational leaflets. Evaluation was conducted through pre–post tests and participatory observation to assess changes in knowledge and attitude. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the proportion of those in the “good” category rising from 28.6% to 82.9% after the educational session. Additionally, several residents expressed commitment to reducing cigarette consumption and implementing smoke-free home practices. This activity demonstrates that community-based health education is effective in increasing awareness and motivation to prevent smoking-related health risks.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains one of the most common health problems affecting children, particularly those of preschool age. Proper early management is essential to reduce symptoms and prevent further complications. Ginger and honey are natural ingredients known for their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and immune-boosting properties, making them suitable alternatives for alleviating ARI symptoms. This socialization activity aimed to improve mothers’ knowledge regarding the benefits of ginger-honey preparations and their application in managing mild ARI in children. The program was conducted in RT 04, Ponorogo Village, Lubuklinggau Utara II District, and was attended by 15 participants. An evaluation was carried out on a three-year-old child named Nadira Al-Maida who experienced ARI symptoms. The results showed that after receiving ginger-honey treatment routinely, symptoms such as coughing and nasal congestion significantly decreased, sleep quality improved, and daily activities became more stable. These findings indicate that ginger-honey preparation can serve as an effective, safe, and easily applied early intervention for ARI. The socialization activity proved effective not only in increasing community knowledge but also in demonstrating a direct positive impact on child health.

Abstract

According to WHO, Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose (or blood sugar) levels. Number of Sufferers: An estimated 589 million to 830 million adults (aged 20–79 years) are living with diabetes worldwide in 2024, 2050 Prediction: This figure is projected to jump to 853 million people. Based on World Ranking Statistics: Indonesia ranks 5th in the world with the highest number of diabetes sufferers. Number of Sufferers: Reaching around 20.4 million people in 2024. National Prevalence: Around 11.3% of the total adult population of Indonesia, a figure higher than the average for the Southeast Asia region (10.8%). The cause of diabetes is a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors, such as lack of exercise, unhealthy diet (high in sugar and fat), obesity, and stress, which cause the body to be unable to produce or use insulin effectively, so that sugar accumulates in the blood. This outreach program aims to help reduce diabetes rates and increase awareness of diabetes among all groups at the Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) RT. 11, Jembatan Kecil Village, Singaran Pati District, Bengkulu City. The outreach program utilizes diabetes education. It is hoped that this will increase public awareness of diabetes and prevent the number of cases from increasing.

Abstract

The elderly are a vulnerable group that experiences a decline in physical function and quality of life, requiring easy and safe promotional interventions such as exercise for the elderly. This activity aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly and increase their knowledge in Hamlet 2, Sumber Sari Village. This program was held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in the residential area of Hamlet 2, Kabawetan Subdistrict, targeting the elderly. The activity method used demonstrations of exercise for the elderly as a hands-on approach and hypertension screening for initial blood pressure checks. There were 20 elderly people who participated in this activity. The results of the activity showed that all participants were able to follow the exercise movements enthusiastically, and from the screening results, it was found that some participants had blood pressure above the normal limit, so they were given further education on healthy lifestyles. It was concluded that the demonstration method was effective in increasing the physical participation of the elderly and that elderly exercise had the potential to improve quality of life if done regularly, while hypertension screening was important for the prevention of health complications. It is recommended that senior citizen exercise be continued periodically through village health cadres, accompanied by routine blood pressure monitoring. Recommendations for health centers and village officials include strengthening community-based senior citizen health programs, providing exercise assistance, and improving follow-up for senior citizens with hypertension screening results.
