Abstract

This study aimed to assess the diversity and abundance of insect species in the coastal forest of Marsegu Island in the Western Seram Regency. The data was collected using an exploratory method, which involved direct observation and sampling in the field between October 2020 and the completion of the study. A total of 321 individuals representing 20 species from six orders (Orthoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Aranae) were identified, distributed across 20 families. The Diptera family Muscidae was most commonly found. The insect diversity index (H') was 4.371, indicating high species diversity within the region. The evenness index (E) was 0.931, suggesting that no single family dominated the population due to a balanced ecosystem. The dominance index was 0.155, implying low dominance and equitable abundance among species. The findings emphasize the importance of Marsegu Island's ecological balance, which may be threatened by chemical interventions. It is crucial to conserve these diverse and abundant insect communities, which play a significant role in maintaining ecosystem health and complexity. Highlights: The study revealed a high diversity of insect species (H' index = 4.371) on Marsegu Island, highlighting its rich ecological complexity. The even distribution of insect species (E index = 0.931) underlines the balanced ecosystem, free from chemical interventions. Despite the high diversity, no species dominates the ecosystem, as reflected by a low dominance index (0.155), emphasizing the importance of species equality in maintaining ecosystem health. Abstract

This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of different concentrations of soursop (Annona muricata) leaf extracts on locust mortality in Pterocarpus indicus plants. A completely randomized design was used involving various concentrations of soursop leaf extracts (0, 250g, 500g, 750g, 1000g per liter of water), each tested in triplicate. Each experiment included 20 locusts, with a total of 300 locusts required for all tests. The soursop leaf extract was prepared by blending fresh leaves with water and filtering, then applied using a sprayer at six-hour intervals. Data analysis was performed using the analysis of variance (ANOVA) method. The results demonstrated that soursop leaf extract significantly affected locust mortality across all concentrations, with even the lowest concentration (250g/L) proving effective. These findings suggest that soursop leaf extract represents a potent, natural biopesticide for locust control, underlining its importance for farmers and offering a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to pest management in Pterocarpus indicus cultivation. Highlights: Soursop (Annona muricata) leaf extract demonstrates significant effectiveness as a biopesticide against locusts in Pterocarpus indicus plants. Even the lowest concentration (250g/L) of soursop leaf extract can effectively control locust populations, indicating a high potency. The use of soursop leaf extract as a biopesticide offers a sustainable, environmentally friendly approach to pest management in agricultural settings. Abstract

This research aims to investigate the influence of workplace culture and environment on employee performance at PT Pelindo Daya Sejahtera. The study employed a random sampling technique, with a sample size of 72 respondents comprising management employees from the company's headquarters and the East Java region. Data analysis involved validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, partial t-tests, and simultaneous F-tests. The research findings confirm the validity and reliability of the indicators used. The classical assumption tests revealed normal data distribution without symptoms of heteroscedasticity or multicollinearity. The results indicate that both workplace culture (X1) and environment (X2) significantly affect employee performance. Additionally, the simultaneous influence of workplace culture and environment on employee performance is evident. These findings contribute to the understanding of the importance of fostering a conducive culture and work environment to enhance employee performance. The implications of this research can guide organizations, particularly in the maritime industry, to create supportive work environments and cultivate positive cultural values to optimize employee performance. Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the influence of fermented goat manure fertilizer on the growth and yield of Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum L.). A randomized complete block design with three treatments, including no fertilizer, goat manure fertilizer, and fermented goat manure fertilizer, was employed. Variables observed included plant height, leaf count, leaf area, and fresh weight. Data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at significance levels of 5% and 1%. The results indicated a significant effect of fermented goat manure fertilizer on the growth and yield of Holy Basil. The treatment with fermented goat manure fertilizer exhibited the best performance, resulting in a plant height of 33.45 cm, 36 leaves, leaf area of 6.73 cm2, and fresh weight of 42.18 g. In contrast, the treatment without fertilizer and with goat manure fertilizer achieved lower measurements, with plant heights of 22.20 cm and 28.48 cm, leaf counts of 22 and 29, leaf areas of 3.43 cm2 and 4.57 cm2, and fresh weights of 16.60 g and 25.36 g, respectively. Abstract

The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 disease are mainly caused by an irregular host response associated with excessive expression of inflammatory markers. Patients with mild, moderate, and severe symptoms of COVID-19 with or without comorbidities use a combination of antiviral drugs and antibiotics. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the use of antiviral drugs and antibiotics on the clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients. The research design used a cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. The inclusion criteria were COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Panti Waluya Sawahan Malang Hospital with or without comorbidities, positive RT-PCR results, and receiving antibiotic and antiviral therapy. The clinical outcome is a patient improvement if the length of stay is 14 days, and the patient worsens if it is >14 days. There is no relationship between antibiotics and antiviral drugs on the clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients (p>0,05). Highlights: Excessive expression of inflammatory markers contributes to the clinical manifestations of COVID-19. Combination therapy of antiviral drugs and antibiotics is commonly used for COVID-19 patients. The study found no significant relationship between the use of antibiotics and antiviral drugs and the clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients Keywords: antibiotics, antiviruses, COVID-19, clinical improvement, clinical deterioration
