Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the influence of media and peers on premarital sexual behavior among adolescents in both urban and rural areas. The research was conducted at Hizbul Wathan Kwarda Sidoarjo using a cross-sectional method. The study population consisted of 90 individuals who were members of Hizbul Wathan Scouts, and purposive sampling was employed for participant selection. A questionnaire was used as the research instrument. The findings revealed that the majority of participants (68 out of 90) had no exposure to media, and a significant proportion (63.3%) reported positive peer influence. Statistical analysis using Fisher's Exact test indicated that the influence of media on premarital sexual behavior was not significant (p-value = 0.219 > 0.05), whereas peer influence was found to be significantly associated with premarital sexual behavior (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05). These results suggest that while media exposure may not play a substantial role, peers exert a significant influence on premarital sexual behavior among Hizbul Wathan members. This study contributes to the understanding of factors shaping adolescent sexual behavior and highlights the importance of addressing peer influences in interventions aimed at reducing risky sexual behaviors among young individuals. Highlights: Media Influence: The study found no significant influence of media on premarital sex behavior among adolescents. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of mother's education level and employment status on children's readiness for elementary school. Employing a quantitative comparison method, data from 194 children were collected through the NST test and a parental questionnaire. The school readiness, mother's education level, and employment status were assessed. Statistical analysis using SPSS 16.0 and the Anova and t-test techniques revealed that neither the mother's education level (F = 1.139, Sig. = 0.340 > 0.05) nor the employment status (t score = -0.763, Sig. = 0.446 > 0.05) significantly influenced the school readiness of the children. These results suggest that other intervening variables such as parenting styles, socioeconomic status, and child's motivation may be more crucial determinants of a child's preparedness for school. This study offers a novel perspective to parents, educators, and developmental psychologists by challenging conventional assumptions about mother's influence on children's school readiness. Highlights: A mother's education level doesn't significantly influence a child's readiness for elementary school. A mother's employment status (working or non-working) also doesn't significantly affect a child's school readiness. Other factors like parenting styles, socioeconomic status, and child's motivation could be more influential on a child's preparedness for school. Abstract

This research employs a psychoanalytic approach to investigate the effects of phobias on the psychological security of adolescents and the implications for their socio-educational development. The study postulates that phobias result in emotional discomfort and dissatisfaction, thereby weakening individuals' volitional sphere and impairing decision-making capabilities. Data collected were empirically analyzed to discern the balance between self-emotional assessment and psychological protection opportunities during adolescence. The results indicate that phobias, among other effects, reduce environmental tolerance, hinder self-control and personal belief in one's strengths, impede resistance to internal and external influences, decrease self-satisfaction, disrupt communicative skills, and negatively affect the mental state. These impacts collectively lead to a significant drop in the efficiency of the activities a person engages in. Consequently, the study underscores the importance of proper educational interventions from school administrators, teachers, psychologists, and parents to ensure the psychological well-being of adolescents. This approach promises to enhance their resilience and psychological security, enabling their optimal participation in socio-economic activities. Highlights: Phobias significantly affect the psychological security of adolescents, impairing their decision-making capabilities and reducing their overall effectiveness in activities. A psychoanalytic approach provides insights into the balance between self-emotional assessment and psychological protection opportunities during adolescence. Educational interventions from stakeholders (school administrators, teachers, psychologists, parents) are critical in managing phobias among adolescents, promoting psychological well-being, and fostering socio-economic participation. Abstract

This study addresses the underutilization of multilingual capabilities in Indonesia's educational system by introducing a translingual literacy movement, with literature serving as a principal tool. We utilized a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, scrutinizing relevant publications from 2012-2022. The investigation drew from 15 sorted articles from international journals focusing on 'sastra', 'literasi', and 'translingual'. With Indonesia's rich cultural diversity, the potential for multilingual learning is significant, yet educational institutions have inadequately integrated language skills, often creating separate barriers for different languages. The translingual approach, rooted in progressivism, was explored to leverage language diversity as a resource rather than an obstacle, enabling students to better communicate and acquire useful knowledge for their self-development. Literature's role in facilitating this multilingual proficiency was emphasized, promoting imaginative and creative learning against traditional and conservative approaches. The implementation of this translingual literacy movement is expected to empower students to effectively use their multilingual abilities, fostering competitiveness in a global context. The study advocates for a reformed language learning approach, highlighting the need for proper literary resources and a conducive ecosystem to realize students' multilingual potential.Highlights: The importance of the translingual literacy movement in leveraging language diversity and optimizing multilingual abilities in Indonesia.
