Abstract

This study investigates the influence of storytelling activity frequency on the listening comprehension skills of early childhood learners (aged 2–4 years) at Kelompok Bermain Salsabila 5 Purworejo. Using a qualitative case study approach with triangulation of data collection techniques—including observation, interviews, and documentation—this research involved 25 participants. Findings reveal that children exposed to high-frequency storytelling activities (five or more sessions per week) demonstrated significantly richer vocabulary, sustained attention spans, and improved narrative comprehension compared to their peers in lower-frequency groups. Three dominant patterns emerged: (1) phonological awareness developed through repetitive story structures; (2) pragmatic understanding was enhanced through interactive question-and-answer storytelling sessions; and (3) emotional engagement positively correlated with listening retention. These results underscore the critical role of systematic, frequent storytelling in fostering language acquisition during the sensitive developmental window of ages 2–4. Pedagogical implications for early childhood educators and curriculum designers are discussed, with particular emphasis on integrating structured storytelling routines into daily learning programs.

The results of this study revealed that there are four important roles of parents in instilling religious and moral values in children, namely as educators, motivators, role models, and as friends. Parents need to have a high level of awareness to be able to carry out these four roles. The way to instill religious and moral values starts from daily habits, such as parents teaching children to pray and recite the koran together, and also modeling polite, honest and sharing behavior with others. The obstacles parents face in instilling religious and moral values in children are parents' busyness in earning money, parents who still lack religious knowledge, and the situation of the surrounding environment.

Abstract

The family plays a crucial role in the social and emotional development of early childhood. Broken homes can potentially lead to emotional instability due to a lack of parental support and attention, which can impact a child's ability to interact socially and manage their emotions. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method with purposive sampling. Subjects included teachers and parents or guardians, with data collected using a questionnaire on children's social and emotional development. Data were analyzed descriptively based on percentages. The results indicate that children from broken homes experience difficulties interacting with peers, tend to be withdrawn, and have low self-confidence in communicating. Meanwhile, emotional development scores ranged from low to very low, indicating the absence of severe emotional disorders. These findings underscore the importance of parents and teachers in providing consistent emotional support to optimize children's social and emotional development.
