Abstract

Crisis management practices among school leaders are critical for effective emergency response and resilience. Crisis management studies are essential because unanticipated crises, such as health concerns and calamities, disrupt the learning process. This phenomenological research explores the lived experiences of school heads during the post-pandemic period when they built resilience and navigated their schools back to recovery. Adapting to changing circumstances, finding effective ways to bridge learning gaps and promoting staff and learner well-being are the major challenges facing school heads after pandemic. Real-life situations are further explored through this research to aid in crisis management. This study is crucial because it aids organizations in their effective planning, rapid response, and recovery from unexpected crises. Eight school heads from the Philippines were selected as participants. The researcher utilized a validated questionnaire to gather data on various school management strategies before and after the pandemic. The post-pandemic posed challenges, needs, and opportunities due to protocols, settings, and requirements while incorporating resilience strategies and implementing proactive school recovery approaches. The ANCHOR model was developed as a crisis management framework based on the findings and observations. This process consists of five stages: acclimatization, necessity appraisal, counter-response and handling, opportune resilience strategies application, and recovery and restructuring. It can be applied by organizations to manage crises and recover, emphasizing crisis management skills to improve organizational performance. The model can aid school heads in making informed decisions and navigate institutions to recovery. Finally, this research encapsulates that crisis management skills are essential to organizational performance, particularly in academic institutions.

Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EI) is crucial to every individual's well-being. It is a significant factor in establishing positive relationships, especially in the post-pandemic era. Teachers play vital roles in education as they are the front liners who directly interact with learners, parents, and stakeholders. Therefore, they should have a strong EI to employ constructive approaches in managing their school environment. Therefore, educational leaders and school administrators must recognize how personal challenges impact teachers' emotional intelligence, particularly during the pandemic, by establishing reliable support mechanisms that foster a positive learning atmosphere. These resources can help teachers manage personal issues and empower them to support their students effectively.  The study analyzed the impact of Emotional Intelligence on teachers’ productivity and performance as input for a school-based intervention program. This descriptive research utilized a quantitative correlation approach. A simple random sampling technique was employed to determine the population sample size. The questionnaire was sent to 655 target respondents from two sub-offices of the Division of Laguna, Department of Education, Philippines, through two methods: via a Google link or using paper and pen, with the permission of their school heads. The questionnaire was sent to the target participants in two ways: through a Google link or through paper-and-pen with the permission of the participants’ school heads. The results revealed that the respondents demonstrated high emotional intelligence but average stress management. On the other hand, they were both at high levels in terms of productivity and performance. The relationship between emotional intelligence and teachers’ productivity exhibited moderate correlations, while there was a strong correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Teaching Performance. Finally, some demographic factors influenced the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and Teaching Performance. Most school interventions focus on skill development, curriculum development, teaching methodologies, or student support systems, and Emotional Intelligence is often neglected. Providing emotional support to teachers is important for recognizing how their emotional states impact their effectiveness and the learning environment. This support can help to continually enhance productivity and performance, leading to better learning outcomes.

Abstract

Professionalism is crucial in shaping client experience in organizations, yet many organizations lack strategies to enhance staff conduct, leading to inconsistent service, communication gaps, and inadequate training.  Essential qualities such as competence, courtesy, honesty, integrity, and specialized knowledge significantly impact client interactions, complaint resolution, and organizational image. This study, conducted at the City College of Calamba, Philippines, surveyed 1,126 students to assess their perceptions of professionalism among administrative personnel providing student services and evaluate customer satisfaction.   Using a descriptive correlational approach with stratified random sampling and simple statistical treatment such as mean and Goodman and Kruskal's Gamma Correlation, the study established a correlation between staff professionalism and satisfaction, proposing a development program based on its findings. The survey found high levels of professionalism and customer satisfaction, recognized staff strengths in professional communication and accountability, and indicated areas for growth in problem-solving. The significant relationships between job performance, service delivery, ethics, and satisfaction highlight professionalism’s impact on consumer perspectives. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the correlation between professionalism and satisfaction within an educational setting, offering insights for targeted development programs. Limitations include a small sample size, which may affect generalizability, reliance on self-reported data, cross-sectional design, and a focus on one institution, which may overlook broader contextual nuances.

Abstract

The alignment between a developer’s organizational and personal work values underscores the importance of person-organization fit. This study aimed to explore the relationship between real estate agents’ personal work values and real estate developers’ organizational values. The quantitative research employed both descriptive and inferential statistical tools to analyze the frequency and correlations among variables. To establish the correlation between respondents’ perceived competencies and personality traits, Spearman’s Rho and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used. The results indicated that the five subscales of personal work values were deemed extremely important by the respondents, while two subscales were considered essential. Employees prioritized factors such as salary, welfare, awards, honesty, integrity in the workplace, reputation, health, and a safe working environment. Regarding organizational values, employees rated all seven subscales as very important. The findings suggest that organizations must address employee needs to enhance productivity and performance. Moreover, personal work values were significantly related to organizational values, with employees’ values aligning with the organization’s goals. This alignment fosters stronger employee commitment. Understanding and integrating personal and organizational values is essential for improving employee morale and dedication to the organization.

Abstract

Job satisfaction is a key area of interest for competitive organizations, as it significantly influences the retention of skilled and committed employees. This study aimed to investigate the level of job satisfaction among employees, employee retention rates, and the relationship between job satisfaction and employee retention. Additionally, it sought to identify programs and benefits that could enhance job satisfaction and retention rates. This descriptive-correlation research used a researcher-structured questionnaire distributed to 70 full-time employees of the subject government agency in the Philippines. Statistical tests, including frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Spearman's rank correlation test were employed in the data analysis. Findings revealed that employees are satisfied with their jobs, especially when it comes to compensation, job content, promotion, supervision, and relationships with colleagues. Additionally, the study emphasized that employees are more likely to remain in the organization. Moreover, the study concluded that the level of job satisfaction exhibits a positive and strong correlation with employee retention. The study also revealed that healthcare benefits are considered a major contributor to employees’ retention among the programs and benefits that an organization can provide. Finally, this study can serve as a model for other government agencies to enhance job satisfaction and productivity among employees, thereby contributing to long-term employee retention, that benefits both employees and the organization.

Abstract

A supportive organizational culture, which provides the foundation for excellence, is vital to implementing an effective quality management system (QMS) in any organization. This study examined how organizational culture influences the QMS practices in a private insurance company in the Philippines. The main objectives included identifying the organization's cultural aspects, assessing QMS practices, analyzing the relationships among those variables, and identifying challenges and barriers to QMS implementation. Using a descriptive-quantitative approach, data were collected from 129 employees of the subject private insurance company via a researcher-developed questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, standard deviation, and weighted mean) and Spearman's rho for correlation analysis. Findings showed strong alignment with cultural values, including mission, leadership, and communication, though employee engagement indicated potential for greater involvement in quality initiatives. The QMS assessment emphasized customer satisfaction and quality assurance and recognized the need for consistent documentation. However, employees showed low levels of involvement in QMS training programs and uneven participation across departments, indicating the need for appropriately aligning training with quality objectives. This study confirmed that a supportive organizational culture positively and significantly correlates with the effectiveness of QMS practices, providing evidence that influential culture can help organizations overcome challenges to more effective QMS implementation. Therefore, this study can serve as a model for other organizations to enhance their QMS practices to better serve their stakeholders.

Abstract

Workplace culture drives the transformation of individual employee performance. This study assessed the workplace culture across four dimensions in terms of communication, leadership, teamwork, and recognition, and determined its relationship with employee performance in terms of motivation, job satisfaction, and productivity. This descriptive-quantitative study employed a researcher-structured approach to examine the relationship of workplace culture on employee performance in a higher education institution (HEI) in the Philippines. The data were collected from 56 employees of the subject HEI using a researcher-structured questionnaire administered in-person. Statistical tests such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and multiple regression analysis using Partial Least Square SEM were employed in the data analysis. The findings revealed that the HEI has an appropriate and relevant workplace culture supportive of achieving common goals and making employees productively engaged in their work, though the employee performance can still be improved. Likewise, the study also confirmed that workplace culture is significantly related to employee performance in terms of productivity. On the other hand, no significant relationships exist between the dimensions of workplace culture and the motivation and job satisfaction dimensions of employee performance were revealed. While problems related to workplace culture rarely occur in the HEI, the researchers suggest a strategy roadmap for a more positive workplace culture to further improve employee performance. This study can be used as a reference in formulating workplace culture enhancement measures to increase employee performance.

Abstract

Autonomous learning fosters students’ independence in managing their learning without teacher intervention. However, many students currently lack motivation for independent English vocabulary learning because of unengaging methods. The objective of this study is to determine students’ perceptions regarding the use of TikTok as a medium for learning English vocabulary for autonomous learning and improving their English vocabulary. This study employed qualitative research to analyze data, focusing on 5 AP2 students from a vocational high school in Bandung, Indonesia. The students were chosen as participants because they used TikTok as a medium for English vocabulary learning in autonomous learning. Additionally, the AP2 students were selected because their study program, Hospitality accommodation, involves frequent interaction with English vocabulary, making them more likely to engage with vocabulary learning platforms like TikTok. Data were gathered through interviews and analyzed using Miles and Haberman’s theory, which has three steps: reduce the data, display the data, and make a conclusion. The findings revealed that most students responded positively to using TikTok as a medium for autonomous English vocabulary learning, indicating that TikTok was effective in enhancing their vocabulary acquisition. The study concluded that TikTok is an effective and engaging medium for supporting autonomous English vocabulary learning, although potential distractions from the platform’s content should be considered.

Abstract

Effective staff retention strategies are essential in the workplace to address employee turnover, improve work-life balance, and promote employee commitment to the organization. This study examined the impact of work overload on staff retention in public elementary schools in the Philippines, focusing on 148 non-teaching personnel. Employing a descriptive-quantitative research design, data were gathered through a researcher-structured questionnaire formatted in Google Forms and distribution was made online via the personal email addresses of non-teaching personnel. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient as statistical tools. The findings revealed that work overload is prevalent, with task demands, time pressure, and role ambiguity identified as critical stressors. However, despite the workload experienced by the non-teaching personnel they are still committed to stay with the organization. Time pressure, work hours, and role ambiguity showed significant correlations with job satisfaction and organizational commitment, while resource availability and task demand exhibited no direct influence on staff retention. These findings suggest that external factors and personal resilience may mitigate the impact of work overload. Based on the findings of the study, a strategy roadmap for improving staff retention is proposed. This study is essential for an organization seeking to improve staff retention and the long-term success created through workload distribution and clarifying roles in the workplace.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become an urgent need in various sectors, including within the Police Institution. In the current digital era, new challenges have emerged regarding the technical function of the Police, namely the traffic function, such as handling increasingly complex traffic order violations and adapting to the public's still limited understanding of information about public services for road users. This research aims to identify and analyze the impact of digital transformation on the technical function of the police, thereby increasing traffic operational efficiency and community satisfaction in Banyuwangi, and improving the performance of the Police Institution in Banyuwangi. The research was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods, where data were collected through in-depth interviews with members of the Police and road users in the field. It is hoped that a good understanding of the changes that occur due to the adoption of technology in traffic services can be obtained. The results of the research show that digital transformation has had a significant positive impact on operational functions, including the implementation of e-ticketing with CCTV-based surveillance cameras to improve traffic management. Interaction between the police and the public has become more open thanks to social media platforms used for two-way communication. The conclusion of this research confirms that digital transformation is not just a technological trend but a necessity to improve the quality of public services.
