Abstract

Throughout Indonesia's history, clothing has served multiple purposes, representing not only social status but also an individual's position in society. From the eras of Hindu-Buddhist influence to the advent of Islam and into the modern era, Indonesian attire has been a canvas colored by evolving customs and cultural shifts. As the 20th century began, a dynamic transformation in clothing styles emerged, spurred by the rise of Indonesian intellectuals in response to Dutch ethical policies. This change was evident among Indonesian Islamic intellectuals as well, where traditional robes and sarongs, once emblematic of Muslim attire, lost their primary significance. This study aims to delve into the fashion choices of Indonesian Islamic intellectuals during the early 20th century. Employing a historical research method comprising four stages—heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography—the research seeks to uncover the influence of Western fashion on these intellectuals' clothing choices. The findings of this study illuminate how Western fashion elements such as suits, ties, hats, and shirts became commonplace among Indonesian Islamic intellectuals during this transformative period.

Abstract

Ethical intelligence is the strength of a transformational society. As a change agent, the school leader is expected to be a representative figure of ethical standards. Unfortunately, they are criticized for their unethical activities. Therefore, drawing on the concept of ethical leadership, this study aims to construct the meaning of ethics as they have lived with it, thereby exploring the transformational influences of ethical strengths. Adopting a narrative inquiry research design, lived narratives were generated from four principals of secondary level (Grades 9-12) selected purposively. The narrative data were analyzed and interpreted using Starratt’s (2004) theoretical framework of ethical leadership of care, justice, and critique. This study explored ethics as the mutual value of individual, institutional, and social institutions. Human potentiality is the power of ethical intelligence that derives toward transformation. This finding sheds light on the importance and execution of ethical abilities. It shares ethical knowledge, values, and skills among individuals, schools, and communities. It also portrays ethical sensitivities, which are the core foundation of a transformative society with rational personalities.

Abstract

The editorial cartoons of the Philippine Artisan played an imperative role in identifying and stimulating the public’s feelings toward current events. This study analyzes the signs and symbols used in the chosen fifteen (15) editorial cartoons of Philippine Artisan, the official student gazette of the Technological University of the Philippines, in expressing relevant social issues. This is a qualitative study anchored by a descriptive research design. Semiotic analysis was used to examine symbols, signs, and meanings within the chosen cartoons to achieve a comprehensive analysis. It was found that most of the common themes covered by the editorial cartoons were power abuse, corruption, incompetent leaders, a disorganized capitalist system, government inaction, careless solutions, and school-related problems. The publication still provided an impact by educating students about the current issues and opening their minds to what we are currently facing within the university and society. This also concludes that the cartoonists have clearly communicated their messages and their criticism of the current leadership and the call for action.

Abstract

Participation in the community is key to motivating lifestyle changes in adolescents. Some narrative personal essays show that adolescents have great motivation to commit to specific issues, being part of the community and achieving their goals, and desire meaningful collaboration. #SalingSilang is one of Lyfe With Less’s campaigns in Indonesia to support minimalism lifestyle changes and promote inspiration, motivation, and knowledge for the community. #SalingSilang is a campaign to exchange or give free decluttered items to other participants. However, the decision to change lifestyle and interact with individuals from different backgrounds is not easy. With the #SalingSilang campaign, the authors explore the motives of members and their forms of involvement in the community. We conducted an in-depth interview to collect the main data and used semi-structured interviews with guides from Maslow’s Motivation Theory and the CDC’s nine principles of community engagement. Inductive open coding in thematic analysis was used for data analysis. For validity testing, this research used data source triangulation by not only interviewing four different members but also the founder of Lyfe With Less. It has been shown that community members are encouraged by various motivations, such as: increasing opportunities to expand relationships and developing their ideas about situations and conditions related to issues. The results also show that the dominant need is self-actualization needs. Four main themes emerged related to community engagement: self-determination, partnership, collaboration, and capacity development.

Abstract

Ethics issues are characterized by ambiguity and complexity, and they have high-stakes implications for both individuals and organizations. The study of business ethics focuses on identifying the moral standards of good and wrong that govern interactions between and within organisations. To sustain a competitive advantage in today's competitive market, business leaders must embrace ethical decision-making. Businesses that do not make ethical decisions, risk falling behind their market competitors. This research looks at ethical frameworks that can help managers distinguish between ethical and unethical business decisions. As it is a review of literature, the current study mainly depends on literature. Several theories, including utilitarianism, individualism, justice, and right theories, have been examined in this study to explain the underlying cognitive and behavioural processes governing ethical decision-making. The results show that while making moral decisions, managers need to be aware of the ethical ramifications of various issues and circumstances. As a result, managers should use ethical principles while making decisions, especially when it comes to stakeholders in a business. The findings of this study will assist other researchers in identifying comparable studies during the literature review stage of their research and will serve as a framework for future research in business ethics.

Abstract

The awareness and understanding of Halal issues have significantly increased in recent times due to the prevalent use of social media. Nevertheless, the abundance of information often leads to the guidance of understanding, yet its credibility occasionally remains in doubt. Based on this condition, this study explores the role of social media as a catalyst for driving understanding of Halal issues, alongside its role in spreading misled information and investigating the responses of Muslim individuals to this dynamic. Using a systematic literature review (SLR), this study encompassed an analysis of 20 recent research articles published between 2016 and 2023 that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria and quality assessment, focusing on the discussion of Halal issues across various social media platforms. The findings reveal multiple insights, notably emphasizing that social media serves as a mediator between religion, the market, and consumption in significant ways, particularly in fostering awareness of Halal products and issues. Moreover, the study sheds light on the sensitivity of Halal issues, which are deeply intertwined with individuals’ beliefs and religiosity, thereby eliciting strong reactions and prompting community resistance even in the absence of confirmed information. In addition to presenting insights, this study identified potential issues that warrant further investigation in future studies. These endeavors are intended to enhance understanding within the field of Halal Studies and provide practical insights for the Halal industry to better understand the needs and perspectives of the Muslim population in the digital age.

Abstract

Understanding the dynamics of collaboration helps identify best practices, resolve issues, and foster smooth working relationships among general and special education teachers for students with ASD achievement. This study explored the collaboration of general and special education teachers in educating learners with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at three (3) selected elementary schools in Chicago, Illinois, USA, during the school year 2023-2024. This is a phenomenological inquiry of the ten purposively selected participants who answered the researcher-made semi-structured questionnaire that contained four (4) open-ended questions. Findings showed that in terms of the participants' views about the various collaboration models Implemented in educating learners with autism, the following were the emerging themes: 1) Team Teaching Collaboration, 2) Support Mechanisms on Demand, and 3) Structured Consultation Session. The impact of teacher collaboration on learners with autism academic outcomes were: 1) Enhanced Communication Abilities; 2) Active School Involvement; and 3) Self-sufficiency Development. The barriers encountered to effective collaboration were 1) Challenges in Communication, 2) Support and Policy from the Administration, and 3) Scheduling and Time Limitations. Thus, the general and special education teachers should intensify their collaboration and address the identified challenges. It is further recommended that a quantitative parallel study be conducted to validate and quantify the impacts of teacher collaboration strategies on the academic outcomes of learners with ASD.
