Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of utilizing Teachmint media integrated with the SAVI learning model in improving Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning outcomes among fifth-grade students of SD GMIT Oepura, Kupang City. This research employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental design. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, consisting two classes: Class V-A as the experimental group and Class V-B as the control group. The data collection technique consisted of a test comprising 20 multiple-choice questions. The application of the Direct Instruction model with a lecture method in the control class resulted in an average pre-test score of 50.48 and a post-test score of 62.62, indicating an improvement of 12.14 points. Meanwhile, the SAVI learning model supported by Teachmint media in the experimental class achieved an average pre-test score of 55.24, which increased to a post-test score of 87.86, reflecting an improvement of 32.62 points. The research findings were reinforced by hypothesis testing and t-test analysis of the post-test scores from both the control and experimental groups. The Independent Sample Test produced a significance value (2-tailed) for the t-test for Equality of Means of 0.000, which is less than the threshold of 0.05. This result confirms the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), indicating a significant effect of the SAVI model supported by Teachmint media on IPAS learning outcomes, particularly for the theme "Getting Acquainted with Our Earth," among fifth-grade students of SD GMIT Oepura, Kupang City.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze the role of Social Studies learning in shaping students' critical understanding of the phenomenon of commodification of Belis culture in Manggarai. The method used was a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving 132 students at SMP Negeri 9 Borong, East Manggarai, as well as teachers and the surrounding community. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The main findings of this study show that social studies learning plays an important role in raising students' social awareness of the phenomenon of commodification of Belis culture. Although most students understand the culture of Belis, they do not fully understand the social and economic impacts of changing the form of Belis, from livestock to money. Social studies learning is able to stimulate students' critical thinking, but there are still gaps in their understanding of the wider implications of commodification on the cultural values and social structure of Manggarai society. In conclusion, social studies learning needs to be adapted to the local context to be more relevant to social and cultural conditions, as well as to encourage students to think more critically and actively in preserving Belis culture in the midst of changing times.

Abstract

Intrinsic motivation plays a critical role in sustaining students’ engagement and persistence in science learning, particularly at the primary level. This study explores (1) how intrinsic learning motivation is manifested among fifth-grade students in science lessons and (2) what teacher and school efforts support the development of such motivation at GMIT Kuanino 1 Elementary School, Kupang City, Indonesia. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, enabling triangulation of information across sources. Findings indicate that students’ intrinsic motivation is supported by multiple interacting factors: (a) teachers’ use of varied and appropriate instructional methods, (b) utilization of learning media, (c) optimization of available facilities and learning resources, (d) continuous improvement of teacher quality through school programs, and (e) the creation of a pleasant and encouraging classroom climate. In addition, students’ enthusiasm for learning and the availability of basic classroom resources (e.g., tables, chairs, whiteboards, textbooks) strengthened participation in science learning activities. These results suggest that intrinsic motivation in primary science learning can be fostered through coherent pedagogical practices and supportive school environments. Implications are discussed for classroom instruction and school-level support to enhance student engagement in science learning.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the use of YouTube as a tool for self-directed listening practice among 19 sixth-semester English Education students at Citra Bangsa University, Indonesia. Through semi-structured interviews, reflective journals, and usage observations, the research explores how learners engage with YouTube's features to enhance listening skills, the perceived benefits, and the challenges encountered. Findings indicate that students actively utilize YouTube's playback controls, subtitles, and content diversity to support autonomous learning, reporting improved comprehension of natural speech, better accent recognition, and expanded vocabulary. However, significant barriers emerged, including content discoverability difficulties, platform distractions, and technological limitations. The study highlights YouTube's dual role as both an empowering resource for authentic language exposure and a potentially disruptive medium requiring careful navigation. It reveals that while the platform aligns well with principles of self-directed learning (SDL), its effectiveness depends on institutional support and digital literacy training. Key implications suggest the need for structured guidance in material selection, curated playlists, and strategies to minimize distractions. The research contributes to the growing discourse on technology-enhanced language learning by providing insights from the Indonesian EFL context, where digital resources are increasingly adopted despite infrastructure challenges. Recommendations include integrating YouTube into formal curricula with scaffolding mechanisms to optimize its educational potential while addressing local constraints.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology presents both challenges and opportunities for the professional development of teachers, particularly in enhancing the quality of learning. This study aims to formulate an integrative digital strategy that supports the continuous strengthening of teachers competencies. The research employed a literature review with a qualitative approach, involving a systematic analysis of scholarly works related to pedagogical theories, educational technology, teacher competency frameworks (TPACK, DigCompEdu), and the concept of continuous professional development (CPD). Data were collected from journal articles, academic books, and relevant research reports, which were subsequently analyzed thematically to generate a new conceptual framework. The findings reveal that digital strategies such as digital pedagogy, blended learning, microlearning, artificial intelligence, big data, and digital professional learning networks significantly contribute to improving teachers pedagogical, technological, and professional skills. Furthermore, this study proposes a conceptual model consisting of Access, Training, Practice, Reflection, and Evaluation as a new design that is more responsive to real challenges, including time constraints, digital skills gaps, and teachers workload. These findings provide theoretical contributions by enriching the literature on digital based learning management, as well as practical implications for teachers, schools, and policymakers. Future research is recommended to empirically test the validity of this model through field studies and to explore broader implications for educational policy.
