Abstract

Low student participation and learning outcomes in Biology learning remain common problems in secondary schools, particularly because the learning process is still teacher-centered and does not actively engage students. This study aimed to analyze the effect of an active learning model using card sorting on students’ learning outcomes in biodiversity material at SMA Swasta Nupela in the 2023/2024 academic year. The study employed an experimental method with a randomized control-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class taught using the active learning model with card sorting and a control class taught using conventional learning methods. Data were collected through multiple-choice learning outcome tests that had been validated and tested for reliability. The results showed that the average student learning outcome in the experimental class reached 83.18, categorized as good, while the control class obtained an average score of 75.76, categorized as sufficient. The hypothesis testing results indicated that the value of t count=2.628was greater than t table=1.988 at a significance level of 0.05. These findings demonstrated that the active learning model with card sorting had a significant effect on improving students’ Biology learning outcomes and was able to create a more interactive and meaningful learning environment.

Abstract

The low mathematics learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 3 Mazo are caused by the dominance of conventional learning models that result in passive students, difficulty understanding the material, and learning outcomes below the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM). The purpose of this study is to describe the improvement in the quality of the mathematics learning process and outcomes through the application of the Elaboration learning model. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was carried out in two cycles in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, with 25 students of class VIII-1 as subjects. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection instruments included student and teacher activity observation sheets, learning outcome tests, learning quality questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results showed that the percentage of the quality of the learning process increased from 67% (sufficient category) in cycle I to 85% (good category) in cycle II. The average learning outcomes increased significantly from 66.02 (sufficient) with classical completeness of 60% in cycle I, to 89.10 (good) with completeness of 100% in cycle II. These findings confirm that the Elaboration model is effective in encouraging students to explore information, develop deeper understanding, and retain material more meaningfully. Therefore, this model is recommended as an alternative for student-centered mathematics learning.

Abstract

Low critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes are major problems in biology learning, exacerbated by the lack of learning modules that facilitate independent learning. This study aims to develop a biology module based on critical thinking skills on ecosystem material that is suitable for use and to determine student responses to the module. This Research and Development (R&D) study refers to the Borg and Gall model modified into nine stages, starting from preliminary studies to final product refinement. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through validation sheets by four validators (material experts, subject teachers, linguists, and design experts), a module feasibility questionnaire, and response questionnaires from 34 grade X students of SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli Alo'oa. The development results showed that the module achieved a validity level of 100% from all validators. Large-scale trials by students showed a feasibility level of 95% (very strong category), and student responses reached 82% (very strong category). This critical thinking-based biology module proved very suitable for use in learning to support student learning independence.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of Natural Sciences (IPA) at SMP Negeri 1 Moro'o are caused by the learning process which is still teacher-centered and the lack of variety of learning models that actively involve students. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Active Knowledge Sharing learning model on the learning outcomes of eighth grade students in the human digestive system. An experimental method with a randomized control-group pretest-posttest design was used in this study, involving two randomly selected classes, namely the experimental class that applies the Active Knowledge Sharing model and the control class that uses conventional learning. The research instrument was a five-item essay test that had gone through logical validation and trials to ensure validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminatory power. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests with two-tailed t-tests at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the average learning outcomes of the experimental class reached 81.50 with a good category, while the control class only reached 73.57 with a sufficient category. The hypothesis test yielded a t-value of 3.967, which was greater than the t-table of 1.677, thus the alternative hypothesis was accepted. This finding demonstrates a significant effect of the Active Knowledge Sharing learning model on improving students' science learning outcomes. This learning model is effective in encouraging active student participation through knowledge sharing and teamwork, making it an alternative student-centered learning strategy.

Abstract

The low science learning outcomes of students at SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli Alo'oa is the main problem in this study, which is caused by the dominance of conventional teacher-centered learning models so that students are less active and motivated. This study aims to describe the average learning outcomes of students taught with the Problem Based Instruction model, describe the average learning outcomes of students taught with the conventional model, and prove the significant effect of the Problem Based Instruction model on science learning outcomes. This experimental study with a pretest-posttest group design involved samples of class XI-ADM-1 as the experimental class (25 students) and class XI-ADM-2 as the control class (26 students) selected randomly from the population. The learning outcome test instrument in the form of 5 essay questions was validated first through a logical validity test by an expert validator and a trial of the instrument to measure validity, reliability, level of difficulty, and discriminatory power. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to calculate the average learning outcomes and inferential statistics through a two-tailed t-test to test the research hypothesis. The results showed that the average learning outcome for the experimental class was 81.28, categorized as good, while the control class only achieved 73.62, categorized as adequate. The hypothesis test yielded a t-value of 3.259, which was greater than the t-value (2.011), thus Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. These findings demonstrate that the Problem-Based Instruction model has a significant impact on improving students' science learning outcomes. Consequently, teachers are advised to adopt the Problem-Based Instruction model to create more meaningful and student-centered learning.
