Abstract

The Peek-a-Boo coloring technique involves selecting specific parts of the hair, such as the undercoat or around the middle of the hair, which are then given a strikingly different color. One of the coloring that attracts the attention of teenagers is Peek-a-Boo hair coloring, where bright or contrasting shades of color are applied to a portion of the hair to create an interesting effect. This study aims to analyze the effect of Peek-a-Boo hair coloring on the confidence level of cosmetology education students of the class of 2022. The problems raised are how to choose the preferred color in this coloring technique, how to use Peek-a-Boo coloring on student confidence levels and find out the relationship between the use of Peek-a-Boo hair color and the confidence level of makeup students of the 2022 batch. The method used was quantitative correlation involving 40 respondents, where data was collected through a questionnaire regarding color choice and its impact on self-confidence. The results showed that 40% of respondents preferred shade colors (maroon, navy, magenta), while the confidence level of UNESA makeup students of the class of 2022 after using Peek-a-Boo hair dye showed positive results, where students had a high level of confidence after using Peek-a-Boo hair dyeing. Further analysis revealed a significant relationship between color use and confidence levels, with a Pearson correlation of 0.880 (p-value < 0.01) and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.768. This study confirms that the color selection in Peek-a-Boo hair coloring not only affects appearance, but also increases student confidence.

Abstract

Hair shine spray is generally based on non-aqueous solvents using volatile and non-volatile silicones. The addition of water (distilled water) to the system can affect the homogeneity and stability of the dispersion. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding distilled water on the physical stability of hair shine spray by comparing two formulas: Formula A (containing distilled water) and Formula B (without distilled water). The experimental results showed that Formula A changed color to milky white when shaken and formed an unstable dispersion, while Formula B remained clear and stable without phase separation. These results indicate that the presence of water in the silicone–ethanol solvent system causes phase incompatibility which reduces physical stability. Keywords: Hair Shine, Silicon, Sunflower Oil.

Abstract

This study aims to map recent scientific evidence (2018–2025) regarding the cosmetic and dermatological activities of traditional plants, identify the role of biotechnology in enhancing the effectiveness of natural bioactive compounds, and formulate recommendations for developing modern bioactives rooted in ethno-beauty knowledge. A systematic review method was employed following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, involving literature searches through Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, selection of articles based on inclusion criteria, and thematic analysis of phytochemical data, biological activities, and applied formulation technologies. The results indicate that traditional plants rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, and triterpenoids exhibit significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and skin hydration effects. Empirical evidence further shows that biotechnological innovations such as nanoemulsions, nanosuspensions, liposomes, and controlled delivery systems substantially improve the stability, bioavailability, and efficacy of natural compounds. Centella asiatica emerges as one of the most scientifically validated plants, demonstrating strong skin-regenerative, protective, and anti-photoaging properties when processed through modern formulation technologies. The thematic synthesis highlights that integrating ethnobotanical knowledge, phytochemical profiling, and biotechnology provides a strong scientific foundation for the development of modern, tradition-based cosmetic bioactives. In conclusion, traditional plants hold significant potential as sources of modern cosmetic bioactives, and the application of biotechnology is crucial in optimizing their performance. Further development requires standardized extraction methods, stronger clinical validation, and collaboration between researchers and industry to ensure the creation of safe, effective, and sustainable natural cosmetic products.

Abstract

The transformation of vocational education in the digital economy era demands a paradigm shift from diploma-based recognition toward a competency-based system. This study aims to analyze the role of micro-credentials and skill-based hiring practices in enhancing the employability skills of graduates from beauty vocational schools Vocational High School in Indonesia. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design was employed. Quantitative data were collected from 212 graduates of beauty Vocational High School across East Java, West Java, and Yogyakarta through an online survey, while qualitative data were obtained via in-depth interviews with 12 salon owners, 5 HR managers from the cosmetics industry, and 8 beauty vocational teachers. The results indicate that specific micro-credentialssuch as bridal make-up, nail art, and digital beauty marketing certificates have a significant positive effect on graduates’ employability levels (β = 0.47; p < 0.001). Interviews confirmed that the industry values verified competencies and skill portfolios more highly than formal diplomas. This study underscores the urgency of integrating micro-credentials into Vocational High School curricula to strengthen the alignment between education and the needs of the modern beauty industry.

Abstract

Nutricosmetics are oral nutritional interventions designed to enhance skin health and aesthetics through internal biological mechanisms. The growing beauty-from-within trend has accelerated research on active compounds such as hydrolyzed collagen, oral hyaluronic acid, probiotics, and astaxanthin. This article synthesizes current scientific evidence by reviewing studies published between 2015 and 2025 retrieved from Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect. Eight key publications, including meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs), were evaluated to determine the clinical effectiveness of nutricosmetics on skin parameters. Hydrolyzed collagen demonstrates the strongest evidence base, with a meta-analysis of 26 RCTs (~1,721 participants) reporting significant improvements in skin hydration and elasticity. Oral hyaluronic acid likewise shows benefits in hydration, elasticity, and wrinkle reduction, supported by findings from seven RCTs. Probiotic supplementation exhibits clinical efficacy in acne management via modulation of the gut–skin axis, while astaxanthin offers potential improvements in hydration and photoprotection, although current data remain limited. Variability in dosing, formulations, and study duration contributes to heterogeneity across trials. Overall, nutricosmetics present promising complementary strategies for enhancing skin hydration, elasticity, and age- related parameters. Standardized methodologies and long-term clinical trials are required to strengthen evidence- based recommendations.

Abstract

Job readiness is a key indicator of the effectiveness of vocational education in preparing graduates to meet the demands of industry. One form of industry engagement that contributes to enhancing students’ job readiness is industrial visits, particularly in the beauty and spa sector, which requires technical competence and professional work attitudes. This study aims to systematically examine the role of industrial visits in improving job readiness among vocational education students using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach guided by the PRISMA framework. The literature search was conducted through Google Scholar and nationally accredited (SINTA-indexed) journals, yielding 45 articles at the initial identification stage. Following the screening and eligibility assessment processes, 18 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further. The findings indicate that industry-oriented learning, experiential learning, teaching factory models, industrial work practice, internships, and industrial visits significantly contribute to vocational students’ job readiness. Industrial visits function as an initial exposure to real workplace environments, work culture, and industry standards, thereby strengthening students’ mental readiness, professional attitudes, and contextual understanding of the world of work. In the context of vocational education in the beauty and spa field, industrial visits represent an integral component of industry-based learning that helps bridge the gap between school-based instruction and industry practice.
