Abstract

Hair shine spray is generally based on non-aqueous solvents using volatile and non-volatile silicones. The addition of water (distilled water) to the system can affect the homogeneity and stability of the dispersion. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding distilled water on the physical stability of hair shine spray by comparing two formulas: Formula A (containing distilled water) and Formula B (without distilled water). The experimental results showed that Formula A changed color to milky white when shaken and formed an unstable dispersion, while Formula B remained clear and stable without phase separation. These results indicate that the presence of water in the silicone–ethanol solvent system causes phase incompatibility which reduces physical stability. Keywords: Hair Shine, Silicon, Sunflower Oil.

Abstract

Learning about skin disorders and diseases at SMK Labschool UNESA 1 Surabaya continues to face several challenges, including limited student interest in reading, heavy reliance on traditional learning media, and a lack of visual materials for topics that involve many scientific terms and lengthy explanations. The study’s main goal was to outline the creation of digital comic media, compare students’ learning outcomes before and after its implementation, and collect students' responses. A Research and Development (R&D) methodology was employed in the research, which was conducted over nine phases and utilised the Borg & Gall model. The sample consisted of 22 students from class X TKKR 2. Data was gathered using feasibility observation forms, pretest and posttest assessments, and student response surveys. Data analysis comprised descriptive quantitative methods, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, alongside N-gain analysis. The digital comic media received an average feasibility score of 4.45, with material experts assigning 4,53, media experts 4,47, and language experts 4.10. Students’ learning outcomes demonstrated significant improvement, as indicated by a Wilcoxon p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, and supported by a N-gain score was 0.7002 (high level). Student responses also demonstrated as the questionnaire metrics reached an average score of 4.46 (highly feasible). In summary, digital comic media represents a highly feasible and effective approach for enhancing students’ learning outcomes and engagement.

Abstract

Learning geriatric facial makeup in vocational high schools requires mastery of concepts, analysis of elderly skin characteristics, and accurate technical skills. However, conventional learning methods have not fully optimized students’ learning outcomes. This study aimed to implement the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to improve learning outcomes in geriatric facial makeup competency at SMK Negeri 1 Pogalan. The research employed a Classroom Action Research design conducted in two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 34 eleventh-grade students of the Skin and Hair Beauty program. Data were collected through cognitive tests (pretest and posttest), performance tests, and observation sheets on the implementation of PBL syntax. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative methods. The results indicated an improvement in the implementation of PBL syntax, with the average score increasing from 3.86 in Cycle I to 3.93 in Cycle II, categorized as very good. Cognitive learning outcomes also improved, as shown by the increase in the average pretest score from 65.88 to 71.47 and the average posttest score from 85.44 to 89.11, with classical learning mastery achieved in Cycle II. In addition, students’ performance skills showed improvement, with the performance test score increasing from 34.61 to 34.79 and the average score remaining in the very good category. It can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model is effective in improving both cognitive learning outcomes and performance skills in geriatric facial makeup competency. This model is relevant for vocational education as it emphasizes real-world problem solving and the strengthening of practical skills. Abstract

This study aims to evaluate how effective a web-based interactive learning medium built with Canva is when usedin Anatomy and Physiology lessons, while also examining students’ responses to it. The underlying issue arisesfrom students’ suboptimal learning achievement, which is attributed to the limited ability of conventional printedmaterials to depict the microscopic structure of the skin. The research adopts a Research and Development (R&D)method following the ADDIE procedure (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Theparticipants were 35 tenth-grade students from the “Skin and Hair Care” (TKKR) vocational program. Data weregathered using validation sheets from content, media, and language experts, supplemented by learning-outcometests (pre-test and post-test) and a student response questionnaire. The field findings indicate that this Canvabased interactive medium was rated “highly suitable” by all validators. Its impact is reflected in a significantincrease in students’ average cognitive scores, from 62.06 to 90.97, with an N-gain of 0.78 falling into the “high”category. All students (100%) responded positively, placing it in the “very good” category. Based on these results, this web-based learning medium is declared valid, effective, and practical for strengthening comprehension andcognitive achievement in Anatomy and Physiology
