Abstract

Pleural effusion is a condition of fluid accumulation in the pleural cavity that causes decreased lung expansion and disruption of breathing patterns. This disorder is often found in the Emergency Facility (IGD) and can cause severe shortness of breath and respiratory failure if not treated immediately. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of ventilation support on improving breathing patterns in pleural effusion patients in the emergency room of Labuang Baji Hospital Makassar. This study is a case report in a 59-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of pleural effusion. Nursing care is carried out according to SDKI, SLKI, and SIKI standards with a focus on three nursing diagnoses: ineffective breathing patterns, acute pain, and risk of infection. The main interventions include airway management, provision of ventilation support through a 5-liter nasal cannula per minute, pain management, and infection prevention. Results: after 8 hours of nursing intervention, there was an improvement in vital signs in the form of a decrease in breathing frequency, an increase in oxygen saturation from 91% to close to normal, reduced use of the respiratory support muscles, and an increase in patient comfort. Ventilation support has been shown to help improve oxygenation and improve the breathing patterns of pleural effusion patients. Ventilation support is effective as an initial measure in improving the breathing pattern of pleural effusion patients in the emergency room before definitive therapy is carried out.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders experienced by the community, which can decrease functional activity and quality of life. Non-pharmacological management such as the McKenzie Method has been proven effective in reducing pain intensity through repetitive movements and posture correction that help improve spinal mobility, decrease muscle spasms, and restore function. To determine the effectiveness of the McKenzie Method in reducing pain intensity among LBP patients in the Emergency Department of Dr. Tadjuddin Chalid General Hospital Makassar. This study used a case report design on a patient, Mrs. S, who complained of lower back pain radiating to the waist. The nursing intervention involved McKenzie exercises, including prone on elbows, prone press-up, and standing extension, performed under nurse supervision. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Before the McKenzie exercises, the patient's pain scale was 7 (severe pain). After two sessions, the pain scale decreased to 5 (moderate pain), with improved mobility and a more relaxed appearance. The patient’s vital signs remained stable, and no adverse effects were observed during therapy. The McKenzie Method is effective in reducing pain and improving mobility in patients with LBP. This method can serve as a simple, safe, and efficient non-pharmacological nursing intervention for managing lower back pain

Abstract

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a progressive clinical syndrome characterized by the inability of the heart to pump blood adequately, causing a decrease in tissue perfusion and symptoms such as dyspnea, orthopnea, and fatigue. Dyspnea is one of the main complaints of CHF patients. This case study aims to determine the effectiveness of airway management, especially through semi-fowler position adjustment, in reducing the level of dyspnea in patients with Congestive Heart Failure in the emergency room of Labuang Baji Hospital Makassar. This study uses a case study design with a nursing process approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 54-year-old male patient with a medical diagnosis of CHF, the main complaint of shortness of breath. After 8 hours of nursing intervention, patients showed a decrease in the level of shortness of breath, improvement in breathing patterns, increased oxygen saturation up to 98–99%, and stabilization of vital signs. Patients also report improved comfort and better sleep quality. The conclusion of the study is that airway management through the application of the semi-fowler position has been shown to be effective in reducing dyspnea in patients with congestive heart failure. This intervention can be recommended as one of the simple, effective, and easily applied non-pharmacological measures in the emergency department and treatment room.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that has a high prevalence and is the main risk factor for cardiovascular complications. One of the complaints that often arise in hypertensive patients is neck pain due to increased blood pressure and muscle tension. Wet cupping therapy is one of the complementary treatment methods that has been proven to be able to lower blood pressure while reducing pain complaints by removing blood containing pathological substances from the body. This study used a case study method on a patient (Mrs. D) with complaints of neck pain and hypertension at Rumah Sehat Zein Holistik Therapy Makassar. The nursing care process is carried out through the stages of review, determination of nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Wet cupping therapy is given at specific points related to complaints of neck pain and hypertension. The results showed a decrease in pain intensity from a scale of 4 (moderate pain) to a milder scale after the intervention, accompanied by improved comfort and a decrease in patient blood pressure. The overall evaluation showed that wet cupping therapy was able to provide a relaxing effect, reduce complaints of neck pain, and help control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Conclusions: Wet cupping therapy is effectively used as a complementary therapy to reduce neck pain while helping to control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. These results are expected to be considered in holistic nursing practice, especially in non-pharmacological management in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Vertigo is often accompanied by headaches that interfere with daily activities and reduce the patient's quality of life. Non-pharmacological management such as cupping therapy is increasingly used as an effort to reduce pain and vertigo complaints. A nursing care approach with SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI standards is needed to provide a systematic and measurable intervention The purpose of this study is to determine the picture of nursing care in patients with Acute Pain problems using SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI standards, as well as the effectiveness of cupping interventions in reducing pain intensity. This study used a case study method on a patient (Mrs. A) who experienced vertigo and headache. Nursing care is carried out through assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI. Non-pharmacological interventions in the form of cupping therapy are carried out at specific points according to the patient's complaints, accompanied by education on relaxation techniques and muscle stretching. After cupping therapy and education, the patient's pain intensity decreased from a scale of 5/10 to 2–3/10, the frequency of vertigo attacks decreased, the patient appeared more relaxed, and was able to identify the trigger and perform relaxation techniques independently. The application of nursing care based on SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI with non-pharmacological interventions in the form of cupping therapy effectively helps reduce the intensity of pain and the frequency of vertigo attacks in patients, as well as increase the comfort and independence of patients in managing their complaints.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the public health problems with increasing prevalence every year and has the potential to cause complications such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney damage. Non-pharmacological efforts are an alternative intervention that is increasingly used, one of which is cucumber water infused therapy which is believed to have a diuretic effect and antioxidant content to help lower blood pressure. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of cucumber infused water in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the working area of the Maccini Sawah Health Center. This study uses a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest–posttest approach. Blood pressure data were measured before and after administration of cucumber infused water during the intervention period. The instruments used were observation sheets and interviews. The results showed that there was a decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after cucumber infused water intervention. The decrease shows the body's positive response to cucumber's main content such as potassium, water, and flavonoids which play a role in reducing vascular resistance and improving hydration. Therefore, cucumber infused water is effective in lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension and can be recommended as a supportive non-pharmacological therapy in primary health care facilities

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the health problems whose prevalence continues to increase from year to year. This condition can cause serious complications if not controlled, so proper management efforts are needed. In addition to pharmacological therapy, there are non-pharmacological therapies that can be used as supportive alternatives. One of them is the use of bay leaf decoction which is believed to have an effect on lowering blood pressure. This study aims to determine the application of bay leaf decoction to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This study uses a case study approach on Mrs. R, a patient with a history of hypertension for two years. The patient's initial blood pressure was recorded at 170/105 mmHg with the main complaints being headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. The intervention carried out was the regular administration of bay leaf decoction, accompanied by blood pressure monitoring, subjective symptom assessment, and education about a healthy lifestyle. The results showed a decrease in the patient's blood pressure from 170/105 mmHg to 150/90 mmHg after the intervention. In addition, subjective complaints in the form of headaches were reduced from a scale of 5/10 to 4/10, accompanied by a decrease in dizziness and anxiety. Health education also increases patient understanding of the importance of regular check-ups, low-salt dietary arrangements, and adherence in managing hypertension. In conclusion, bay leaf decoction has been shown to be effective as a complementary therapy in helping to lower blood pressure and reduce symptoms of hypertension. This therapy is natural, easy to reach, and can be used as an alternative to support hypertension management in the community.
