Abstract

Abdominal colic pain is a common problem in the Emergency Department (ER). The management of abdominal pain is often dominated by pharmacological therapy, even though non-pharmacological therapy is also effective in reducing pain. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of pain management on pain reduction in abdominal colic patients in the emergency room of Labuang Baji Makassar Hospital. The research method was a case study with a 1x8-hour nursing approach at Labuang Baji Hospital, Makassar. Data collection was carried out through interviews, direct observation, and physical examination. Nursing interventions include pain management and warm compresses. After 8 hours of implementation, the pain problems in the patient showed a decrease. The patient said his abdominal pain decreased from a scale of 5 to a scale of 3. The client no longer seems to be grimashing and seems relaxed. Vital signs show relatively stable results. Nursing measures are able to effectively manage abdominal colic. A comprehensive approach is needed in providing nursing care, including prevention of nutritional deficits and psychological support.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases with a high prevalence and is known as the silent killer because it is often asymptomatic and causes serious complications. One of the main problems that hypertensive patients experience is sleep disturbances, which can worsen cardiovascular conditions. Activity Daily Living (ADL) management is an important non-pharmacological strategy to improve sleep quality while helping to control blood pressure. This research was conducted in the Pampang Health Center Working Area with the aim of finding out the effectiveness of the application of ADL management on the sleep quality of hypertensive patients. The research method used a case study on Mrs. T, a hypertensive patient with complaints of sleep disturbances. Interventions were carried out through structured daily activity arrangements including light mobilization, rest time management, low-salt healthy diet, and stress management. The results showed a significant improvement in sleep quality after regular application of ADL for three consecutive days. Before the intervention, the patient was only able to sleep 3–4 hours per night with frequent awakening, while after the intervention the sleep duration increased to 5–6 hours with a better quality and less frequent awakening. The application of ADL also reduces complaints of dizziness during activities and increases patients' independence in carrying out daily activities. In conclusion, ADL management has been shown to be effective as a nonpharmacological intervention to improve the sleep quality of hypertensive patients and can be applied routinely in community nursing care.

Abstract

Diabetic foot ulcer (UKD) is a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus that often experiences infection and is at risk of amputation if not treated properly. Ozone therapy is known to have antimicrobial effects, improve tissue oxygenation, and accelerate granulation and epithelialization of wounds. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of ozone therapy in reducing infection in UKD at the ETN Centre Makassar Care House. The case study was conducted on a 66-year-old Mrs. S patient with a 20-year history of diabetes and ulcers that lasted two months. Treatment was carried out over three visits using ozone therapy, PHMB irrigation, debridement, and modern dressing. The results showed improvements in the form of a decrease in wound size, exudate, loss of necrotic tissue, as well as an 85% increase in granulation and 20% epithelialization. These findings are consistent with previous research that states that ozone therapy is able to suppress bacterial colonization and speed healing. Conclusion: Ozone therapy is effective as an additional intervention in reducing UKD infection

Abstract

An abscess is a skin infection caused by the accumulation of pus, often due to Staphylococcus aureus, and is more common in patients with diabetes mellitus due to immune and microcirculation disorders. Conventional treatment is often limited in controlling exudate and preventing infection, thus requiring modern dressing alternatives. This study employed a descriptive method with a case study approach on abscess wound patients at Griya Afiat Private Practice in Makassar City, applying modern Hydrophobic dressing and zinc epithelial cream to assess the effectiveness of treatment in accelerating healing. The case study was conducted on a 56-year-old female patient, Mrs. R, with a back abscess, through wound cleaning, application of Hydrophobic, and epithelial cream on the periwound. After two treatments, the wound area decreased from 1.4 cm² to 0.49 cm², exudate decreased from 25% to 15%, granulation tissue increased from 60% to 65%, and epithelialisation increased from 15% to 25%, indicating an active proliferation phase. The patient also reported increased comfort and no signs of infection were found. The application of hydrophobic dressing (Cutimed Sorbact) combined with Zinc Cream Epitel proved effective in accelerating the healing process of abscess wounds. The results of this case study are expected to serve as a reference in wound care nursing practice and additional literature for the development of nursing science in the field of wound care.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases and remains a global health problem, often referred to as a silent killer. Elderly individuals with hypertension frequently experience poor sleep quality, which may worsen blood pressure conditions. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of sleep quality on blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension. This research employed a case study design on an elderly patient with hypertension at Puskesmas Pampang. The interventions provided included sleep hygiene education, restriction of coffee consumption at night, and regulation of sleep patterns. Evaluation was carried out for three consecutive days by monitoring sleep quality and measuring blood pressure. Results: Before the intervention, the patient had poor sleep quality with blood pressure levels of 167/80 mmHg and 164/85 mmHg. After the intervention, sleep quality improved, complaints of difficulty sleeping decreased, and blood pressure decreased to 162/80 mmHg. Conclusion: Improving sleep quality has an effect on reducing blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension. Good sleep quality can serve as an important non-pharmacological factor in the management of hypertension

Abstract

Diabetic foot ulcers are common complications of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus caused by neuropathy, ischemia, and infection. These wounds are often chronic and difficult to heal, requiring an effective wound care approach. This study aims to describe the application of wound care using modern Metcovazin dressing in a patient with a grade III diabetic foot ulcer. This research employed a case study involving one patient (Mrs. R) treated at the Bontomarannu Primary Health Center. The intervention included modern wound care techniques such as wound cleansing, debridement, PHMB application, ozone therapy, and Metcovazin dressing. Findings showed improvement from the first to the second visit, with a reduction in serous exudate from 20% to 15% and an increase in epithelialization from 70% to 85%. These results support Metcovazin dressing as an effective modern dressing method to enhance diabetic ulcer healing.

Abstract

Lower back pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint and can be caused by compression neuropathy due to pressure on peripheral nerves or spinal nerve roots. Wet cupping therapy is known as a complementary method that has the potential to reduce pain intensity by increasing blood circulation, removing metabolic waste products, and stimulating endorphin release. This study aims to determine the application of wet cupping therapy to reduce low back pain in patients with compression neuropathy at the Zein Holistic Therapy Clinic in Makassar City. This study used a case study method on a 40-year-old female patient with complaints of low back pain radiating to the legs with an initial pain scale of 5 (moderate) as measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The intervention was carried out in the form of wet cupping therapy according to standard operating procedures for nursing, followed by post-intervention pain measurements. The results showed a decrease in the pain scale from 5 to 2 after wet cupping therapy. The conclusion of this study is that wet cupping therapy is effective in reducing low back pain in patients with compression neuropathy, so it can be recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention in evidence-based nursing care.

Abstract

BackgroundHypertension, or high blood pressure, is one of the most common public health problems worldwide. It is known as the "silent killer" because it often has no obvious symptoms, but it can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and premature death if not properly treated. Method:The research method was a case study of a hypertension patient. The intervention was administered for three consecutive days, each lasting 30 minutes. Blood pressure was measured before and after the therapy.Swedish massage Nursing Care ResultsThe analysis results show that Swish massage therapy is effective in lowering blood pressure, indicating a significant decrease in blood pressure. Before the intervention, the patient's blood pressure was in the grade I–II hypertension category (174/98 mmHg). After the intervention,Swedish massage, blood pressure decreased to 145/88 mmHg accompanied by a more relaxed patient condition. ConclusionThe conclusion of this study is that Swedish massage is effective in lowering blood pressure through the mechanisms of muscle relaxation, blood vessel vasodilation, parasympathetic system stimulation, and stress hormone reduction. Swedish massage can be recommended as a safe, easy, and beneficial non-pharmacological complementary therapy in controlling hypertension in primary health care.

Abstract

Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection with high morbidity and mortality rates, especially in the elderly. A common nursing problem is impaired airway clearance due to the inability to cough effectively, resulting in accumulation of secretions and worsening shortness of breath. This condition requires appropriate nursing interventions to help optimize the patient's respiratory function. One intervention that can be provided is effective coughing exercises. These exercises aim to help expel secretions, increase pulmonary ventilation, and improve oxygenation. The method used in this scientific paper is a case study with a nursing process approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The focus of the intervention is effective coughing exercises for pneumonia patients in the Emergency Room of Pelamonia Class II Hospital, Makassar.Evaluation results showed improvements after effective coughing exercises, marked by increased coughing ability, reduced sputum volume and viscosity, and decreased shortness of breath. The application of effective coughing techniques significantly improved airway clearance in clients with pneumonia, thereby reducing their respiratory rate to within the normal range.

Abstract

A fracture is a disruption of bone continuity that may occur either totally or partially, caused by direct trauma, indirect trauma, or pathological conditions of the bone. A radial fracture itself is a break that occurs in the radius bone (the lateral bone of the forearm, aligned with the thumb). This type of fracture generally occurs due to a fall on an outstretched hand (FOOSH), traffic accidents, or occupational trauma." This study used a descriptive observational case study design with a nursing process approach, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The sample consisted of one preoperative patient diagnosed with radius fracture, selected using purposive sampling according to the case criteria. The study was conducted in the Operating Room of Dr. Tajuddin Chalid General Hospital, Makassar, in 2025. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and measurement of anxiety levels using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the implementation of the deep breathing relaxation techniq.. The results of the study showed a decrease in anxiety level from moderate to mild after the implementation of the deep breathing relaxation technique, as measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS).The deep breathing relaxation technique was effective in reducing preoperative anxiety. This intervention can be used as a non-pharmacological nursing approach to help patients feel calmer and better prepared for surgical procedures.
