Abstract

Aging is a natural life process experienced by all living beings. At this stage, older adults undergo a decline in bodily functions, including certain physical, psychological, and social aspects. Anxiety is one of the most common problems faced by older adults. Physical activity is an important factor in managing anxiety, as it can help reduce anxiety levels in the elderly. Lowering anxiety levels among older adults is expected to have a significant positive impact on their health and quality of life. This study aims to examine the relationship between physical activity and anxiety levels among the elderly community in Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects consisted of 75 elderly members of the Babadan hamlet’s elderly community health post (Posyandu Lansia) in Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Province, selected using a total sampling technique. The results showed that 25 respondents (64.1%) reported moderate levels of physical activity, while 26 respondents (66%) experienced mild anxiety levels. The Spearman’s Rank test indicated a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between physical activity and anxiety levels among the elderly community in Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Province.

Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly among the elderly in Indonesia. Its prevalence continues to increase with age and physiological changes that make the elderly more vulnerable. The main risk factors for CHD include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and decreased physical activity. CHD prevention is crucial through healthy lifestyle modifications, including smoking cessation, maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, and regular health check-ups. These efforts are not solely individual, but also require collective support through ongoing education, family involvement, and collaboration between the community, health institutions, and the government. A literature review shows that consistent education and strengthening social support can improve adherence in elderly people to preventive behaviors. Therefore, multifaceted interventions are needed to reduce the incidence of CHD and improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

In recent years, matcha has gained significant popularity, especially among Generation Z, who are strongly influenced by healthy lifestyle trends and digital information flows. Matcha, a powdered green tea from Japan rich in catechins, dietary fiber, vitamin K, and amino acids such as theanine, is associated with health benefits relevant to the active and nutrition-conscious young generation. Studies indicate that matcha contains higher bioactive compounds than regular green tea and can modulate gut microbiota, support metabolism, enhance cognitive function, and reduce stress. However, excessive consumption may lead to adverse effects like anxiety, insomnia, and impaired iron absorption. Moreover, social media platforms amplify matcha's trendiness among youth by promoting its nutritional value and visual appeal. This study employs a literature review method analyzing scientific articles from the last decade to explore matcha's nutritional content, health benefits, and social media's influence on its consumption trend among Generation Z. The findings suggest matcha’s potential as a functional beverage supporting a healthy lifestyle for Generation Z, influenced by digital era trends in food choices.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease patients require lifelong hemodialysis therapy. Self care management is needed to improve quality of life and prevent complications. Knowledge about fluid intake restriction is needed as one of the factors to achieve good self-care management. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge about fluid intake restriction and self-care management in hemodialysis patients at Roemani Semarang Hospital. Analytic observational with cross sectional design was the method in this study. The study population was hemodialysis patients at Roemani Semarang Hospital as of May 2023 and the sample that met the inclusion criteria amounted to 83 people and the sampling technique used total sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire about fluid intake restriction and a self-care management questionnaire. Data analysis using the spearman rank test. Based on the Spearman rank correlation test, the p value = 0.001 and the correlation strength of +0.699 means a strong relationship between knowledge about fluid intake restrictions and self-care management of hemodialysis patients with a positive relationship direction. The better the knowledge about fluid intake restriction, the higher the self-care management of hemodialysis patients at Roemani Semarang Hospital.

Abstract

Variations in the practice of flushing peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs), which are not yet standardised globally, have the potential to reduce catheter patency and increase the risk of complications such as obstruction, phlebitis, infiltration, and infection. This issue is of high urgency because it has a direct impact on patient safety, the effectiveness of intravenous therapy, and the efficiency of nursing services. Inconsistencies in flushing techniques, volumes, and frequencies indicate a gap between theory and practice, particularly in middle-income country healthcare facilities that lack evidence-based guidelines. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of various flushing techniques on PIVC patency and complications to strengthen the basis for evidence-based nursing practice and promote standardisation of clinical procedures. This study is a systematic literature review using the PICOT framework and following the PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were conducted on PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect for publications from 2015 to 2025. Inclusion criteria included primary quantitative studies examining 0.9% NaCl flushing techniques on PIVC patency and complication outcomes. Of the 38 initial records, five studies met the inclusion criteria and were analysed using a comparative-thematic synthesis approach to identify patterns of practice and the effectiveness of the intervention. The results showed that the pulsatile push–pause technique with a volume of 5–10 mL of 0.9% NaCl was consistently more effective than the continuous technique in maintaining patency and reducing complications. Variation in implementation remained high due to workload, training limitations, and the absence of standard protocols. This review emphasises the importance of evidence-based standardisation of flushing and large-scale, multicentre follow-up studies to strengthen global consensus and clinical application in various service contexts.

Abstract

Diabetic foot ulcers are a common complication of diabetes mellitus, often characterised by delayed healing due to neuropathy, vascular problems, and infection. Traditional wound care methods often result in slow healing, requiring innovative approaches to improve patient outcomes. This case study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of applying Metcovasin ointment and Hidrophobyc dressings in accelerating wound healing for patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). This study involved a 66-year-old female patient (Mrs. R) with a diabetic foot ulcer on the second digit of her left foot, present for two months. The wound measured 4x3 cm, showed purulent exudate, and caused pain rated at 4/10. The patient had a 10-year history of diabetes mellitus. Interventions included routine wound care using aseptic techniques, application of Metcovasin ointment, and Hidrophobyc dressing, alongside infection monitoring. Non-pharmacological pain management, such as deep breathing relaxation and distraction, was also applied. After three days of intervention, the patient's wound showed signs of improvement, including reduced size, decreased exudate, and 100% granulation tissue formation and 100% temporary epithelialisation. Although acute pain was partially resolved, with the patient reporting reduced nonverbal pain expression and increased relaxation, the pain scale remained at 4/10. The findings indicate that the combined application of Metcovasin and Hidrophobyc dressings is effective in promoting wound healing and improving skin/tissue integrity in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. This approach is in line with evidence-based nursing practice, emphasising comprehensive wound care, patient education, and family support.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is a global health problem and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, and other serious complications. Hypertension management relies not only on drug therapy but also requires changes in behavior and a healthy lifestyle. Providing health education to patients is expected to improve understanding of the disease, medication adherence, and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, thereby improving the quality of life of hypertensive patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of providing education on improving the quality of life of hypertensive patients in the Maccini Sawah Community Health Center work area. This study used a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach. Data collection methods used observation sheets and interviews. The study showed a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after the Education to Improve Quality of Life intervention, demonstrating the effectiveness of this technique in helping control blood pressure. Providing structured and ongoing education can improve the quality of life of hypertensive patients. It is hoped that healthcare workers will routinely provide education and facilitate patients in adopting healthy lifestyles to minimize the risk of hypertension complications.
