Abstract

Growth in the ASEAN region shows that six of the eleven member countries are still in the middle-income category with an average GDP per capita of around USD 4.656 and stagnant economic growth for more than a decade, amid relatively high trade openness and poor institutional quality. This study analyzes the impact of trade openness, corruption, and political stability on economic growth in ASEAN-6 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, and Vietnam). This study uses secondary panel data from the six countries for the period 2013–2023, with economic growth (GDP per capita) as the dependent variable and the trade openness ratio, corruption perception index, and political stability index as the independent variables. The analysis was conducted using panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The result show that simultaneously, the three variables have a significant effect on the economic growth of ASEAN-6. Partially, trade openness and the corruption perception index have a positive significant effect, which means that increased international trade activity and a decrease in corruption level can drive economic growth. Meanwhile, political stability has a positive but insignificant effect. Thus, the six countries need to maintain and expand trade openness, strengthen efforts to eradicate corruption by increasing the transparency and accountability of public institutions, and maintain policy consistency in order to create an environment conducive to investment and sustainable economic development.

Abstract

The rapid growth of catering businesses has increased concerns regarding their potential environmental impacts, particularly related to waste generation, wastewater discharge, and air quality degradation. Catering activities that are not managed properly may contribute to environmental pollution and reduce environmental quality, especially in areas close to residential zones. Therefore, an environmental impact analysis is essential to ensure that catering operations are conducted in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. This study aims to analyze the environmental impacts arising from the operational activities of EFATA Catering, a food catering business located in Mimika Regency, Central Papua. The analysis focuses on identifying potential environmental impacts generated from food processing activities, the use of raw materials, packaging processes, and waste management practices. The study also examines the types and sources of waste produced, including solid waste, liquid waste, and food waste, which may affect the surrounding environmental quality. The research was conducted using an environmental impact analysis approach through field observations and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results indicate that EFATA Catering’s activities have the potential to cause environmental impacts, particularly on air quality, water quality, and soil conditions. However, these impacts are generally localized and manageable. Wastewater from washing activities, food residues, and cooking odors are the main sources of potential environmental disturbance. Furthermore, the study evaluates environmental management and monitoring efforts that can be implemented to minimize negative impacts while enhancing positive socio-economic contributions. The findings suggest that proper waste segregation, improved wastewater management, adequate kitchen ventilation, and routine environmental monitoring are essential to support environmentally friendly and sustainable catering operations. Overall, EFATA Catering is considered environmentally feasible to operate, provided that appropriate environmental management measures are consistently implemented

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential environmental impact caused by fish trading activities at Mimika Central Market, particularly in the activities of fish reception, storage using ice blocks, cutting, and cleaning. These activities have the potential to produce organic solid waste and liquid waste containing blood, mucus, and fat, which can cause a decline in environmental quality. The method used in this study is an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which includes the stages of identification, prediction, and evaluation of environmental impacts, as well as the preparation of an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and an Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP). The analysis results show that the main environmental impacts identified include unpleasant odors, increased BOD and COD content in wastewater, clogged drainage channels, and potential health hazards and disease vectors. Recommended environmental management efforts include waste sorting at the source, installation of filters and grease traps, drainage system improvements, regular waste transportation, implementation of cleanliness operational standards, and periodic environmental quality monitoring. Overall, the implementation of RKL and RPL is expected to minimize the negative impacts of fish trading activities and support the creation of a clean, healthy, and sustainable market environment.

Abstract

Final Disposal Sites (TPA) play a strategic role in the regional waste management system, but they also have the potential to cause significant environmental impacts if not managed properly and sustainably. This study aims to analyze the environmental impacts of the presence of a final disposal site (TPA) in Mimika Regency by examining the physical, biological, and socioeconomic aspects of the surrounding community. The study employed a qualitative-descriptive approach through documentation studies, field observations, and analysis of relevant Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documents. The analysis indicates that landfill activities have the potential to cause negative impacts in the form of groundwater pollution due to leachate, air pollution due to methane gas and unpleasant odors, and a decline in soil quality around the disposal site. Furthermore, socioeconomic impacts were identified, such as public health problems, reduced environmental comfort, and changes in the livelihoods of local residents. However, the presence of the TPA also has a positive impact in the form of employment opportunities for scavengers and waste managers. Therefore, more optimal environmental management efforts, the implementation of sanitary landfill technology, and ongoing monitoring are needed to minimize negative impacts and maintain environmental sustainability in Mimika Regency

Abstract

This study aims to analyze consumer behavior towards local products in Binjai City through a microeconomic approach, focusing on factors influencing purchasing decisions and their relationship to the social and cultural aspects of the community. The research method used is qualitative, with in-depth interviews conducted with 20 key informants consisting of consumers, sellers, and local producers. The data obtained were validated through source triangulation, namely by comparing the results of interviews, field observations, and secondary documents such as regional trade reports in Binjai City. The research results show that consumer behavior towards local products in Binjai City is influenced by two main dimensions: economic rationality (price, quality, and product utility) and socio-cultural factors (local identity, community solidarity, and regional pride). Consumers purchase products not only based on their economic utility but also on their inherent symbolic and social values. Furthermore, the study found information asymmetry and limited market innovation that influence consumer trust in local products. Some consumers still consider local products less competitive than national products due to a lack of information about quality and production standards. From a microeconomic perspective, this phenomenon suggests that consumer behavior in Binjai reflects bounded rationality economic decisions are not solely based on efficiency but also on the surrounding social and cultural context.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Good Corporate Governance (GCG) in the context of business ethics implementation in Indonesia. Through a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, this research identifies various relevant literature sources to explore the concept of CSR, GCG principles, and implementation challenges. CSR in Indonesia has become a legal obligation since the enactment of Law No. 40 of 2007 and strengthened by Government Regulation No. 47 of 2012. This research discusses the theoretical foundation of CSR built on Carroll's Pyramid Model, the Triple Bottom Line concept, and Stakeholder Theory. The results show that effective CSR governance is an essential bridge between a company's external responsibilities and GCG's internal management framework. Although CSR implementation can improve corporate reputation and support business sustainability, challenges such as greenwashing practices, weak supervision, and low CSR literacy still need to be addressed. Business ethics is an important foundation for effective CSR and GCG implementation, where the principles of transparency, accountability, responsibility, independence, and fairness must underlie every program to achieve long-term sustainability
