Abstract

The oil and gas drilling industry is widely recognized as a high-risk sector in terms of occupational safety and health (OSH). Workers in this field are frequently exposed to a range of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards, which significantly increase their vulnerability to various occupational diseases (ODs). These include, but are not limited to, respiratory disorders, musculoskeletal injuries, and dermatological conditions. Given the complex and hazardous nature of drilling operations, implementation a comprehensive and systematic OSH management system has become essential. This review article aims to synthesize recent literature examining the relationship between the application of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) systems and the prevention of occupational diseases among drilling rig workers. A thorough evaluation of both national and international studies published in the last five years reveals that effective implementation plays a critical role in reducing the incidence of ODs. The findings consistently highlight that the most significant improvements are achieved through proactive risk control measures, ongoing worker training programs, and continuous environmental monitoring. These strategies, when integrated into daily operations, contribute to creating a safer work environment, thereby enhancing both worker well-being and overall operational efficiency in high-risk industries such as oil and gas drilling.

Abstract

The development of microfluidic systems in the microscale requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of two-phase flow, especially when involving non-Newtonian fluids such as Xanthan Gum (XG) solution. This study aims to examine the flow patterns, transitions between patterns, and frictional pressure drop in two-phase flows of XG-Nitrogen and Aquades-Nitrogen in a square-shaped horizontal microchannel at high temperatures. The methods used include an experimental approach with high-speed camera visualization and pressure measurements, as well as numerical analysis using a two-phase pressure drop prediction model. The experimental results show three main flow patterns, namely slug, churn, and slug-annular, with the absence of bubbly and wavy-annular patterns in the XG flow, indicating the strong influence of non-Newtonian viscosity. The flow pattern transition occurs with increasing gas flow rate, causing changes in the slug shape. The evaluation of the prediction model shows better accuracy in 0.2% XG solution compared to Aquades, although there is still a deviation at high values. This study confirms the importance of non-Newtonian fluid viscosity on flow stability and frictional stress, and contributes to the design of more efficient microcooling systems

Abstract

Organizational culture plays a fundamental role in shaping employee behavior, including how occupational safety and health (OSH) practices are implemented and sustained. A toxic organizational culture can give rise to a blaming culture, in which individuals are unfairly blamed for workplace accidents or incidents without addressing the underlying systemic causes. This review article aims to explore the connection between organizational culture, the emergence of blaming culture, and its implications for workplace safety. Using a narrative literature review methodology, the study analyzed 30 peer-reviewed articles published between 2018 and 2024, sourced from reputable databases such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The review revealed that rigid organizational structures, top-down communication styles, and a strong focus on outcomes over processes often contribute to the formation of blaming cultures. Conversely, organizational cultures that encourage transparency, open communication, continuous learning from errors, and transformational leadership are more likely to foster a just culture, which that balances accountability with learning and supports proactive safety management. The article concludes that cultural transformation within organizations is essential for dismantling blame-oriented practices. Implementing supportive and inclusive cultural strategies can significantly enhance employee trust, encourage reporting of safety concerns, and ultimately create a safer and more resilient working environment.

Abstract

Measles is a contagious disease caused by the Morbillivirus, and it can be fatal, especially in children. In Indonesia, cases of measles have significantly increased due to low vaccination coverage and limited access to healthcare services in rural areas. The main problem faced is the lack of early detection of measles by communities that do not have direct access to medical professionals. To address this challenge, an Android-based expert system has been developed that allows users to perform early diagnosis of measles independently based on the symptoms experienced. This system uses the Forward Chaining inference method to determine the possible diagnosis from the combination of symptoms chosen by the user. The system development process is carried out using Agile and Rapid Application Development (RAD) approaches to ensure that development can be conducted quickly and flexibly according to user needs. System testing is conducted using the Blackbox Testing method to evaluate outputs based on specific inputs, and the Whitebox Testing method assesses the internal logic of the system. The test results show that this expert system has an accuracy rate of 92.5% in diagnosing measles symptoms, based on test data that has been validated by medical professionals. In addition to diagnosis functionality, the system is also equipped with features for storing diagnosis history, food recommendations, and education about measles. This application is expected to be an effective solution in raising awareness and knowledge of the public about measles, as well as encouraging them to take medical action promptly to prevent more serious complications, especially in areas with limited health facilities.

Abstract

Equitable access to education remains a significant challenge, particularly in the distribution of scholarship funds, which often lacks transparency and efficiency due to manual selection processes. In Timor-Leste, the Human Capital Development Fund (FDCH) plays a vital role in supporting human resource development; however, its scholarship selection system is still prone to errors and subjectivity. This study aims to develop a more objective and efficient scholarship selection system. The method used in this research is a Decision Support System (DSS) based on the Multi-Objective Optimization on the Basis of Ratio (MOORA) method, which evaluates multiple criteria such as academic performance, economic background, and other relevant factors. The system is designed to process data systematically and generate ranking results for scholarship candidates. The results show that the implementation of the MOORA method can improve the accuracy, consistency, and transparency of the selection process compared to conventional methods. The system is able to rank candidates objectively based on predefined criteria. In conclusion, the proposed DSS using the MOORA method provides an effective solution for improving the fairness and efficiency of scholarship selection, and can support better decision-making in educational institutions
