Abstract

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals play a vital role in cardiac diagnostics but are highly susceptible to interference from Baseline Wander (BW), Powerline Interference (PLI), Electrode Motion (EM), and Muscle Artifact (MA), which may degrade diagnostic accuracy and increase false alarm rates in healthcare monitoring systems. The Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) is known to be effective in ECG denoising; however, its performance is significantly influenced by the choice of thresholding function. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate five thresholding functions (Soft, Hard, Semi Soft, Garrotte, and Stein) when integrated with SWT across various noise types and levels. The performance is assessed using three primary metrics: Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Percentage Root Difference (PRD), and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) Improvement. Experimental results indicate that the Stein method delivers the highest signal quality improvement with an average SNR gain of 5.4 dB, while the Semi Soft method achieves the lowest error rates, reducing RMSE by up to 28% under low to medium noise conditions. Under high noise levels, all methods show similar degradation in performance. This study addresses a gap in the literature by providing a novel comparative analysis of thresholding strategies for ECG denoising using SWT. The findings serve as a valuable guide for optimizing noise removal in real-time ECG monitoring systems

Abstract

Bifacial solar cells can absorb light from both sides, front and back, so they can take advantage of light reflection from surrounding surfaces to improve energy efficiency. The main objective of this study is to optimize the design of a reflection concentrator that can maximize the amount of light received by the back surface of the bifacial solar cell, which is often less exposed than the front surface. The methodology used includes simulations and practical experiments. Simulations were carried out to determine the optimal angle and shape of the reflection concentrator, using photovoltaic modeling software. Practical experiments involved the construction of a reflection concentrator prototype and testing its performance under varying environmental conditions. The results showed that the use of a reflection concentrator can increase the total efficiency of bifacial solar cells by up to 20% compared to a system without a concentrator. In addition, optimal design also considers factors such as the reflective material used, the tilt angle, and the geographical conditions of the solar cell installation. These performance improvements show great potential in practical applications, especially in installations in urban areas and locations with limited space where maximum utilization of each side of the solar panel is essential.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, competition in the manufacturing industry is increasing, especially regarding product quality and customer service. One of the paint manufacturing companies in Indonesia has experienced an increase in production volume in line with increasing market demand, as reflected in annual sales growth of 25-29%. As a market leader in the field of marine coatings and protective coatings with a market share of more than 29%. These challenges impact the tank cleaning process, which directly affects the duration of change over time with each product changeover. Based on company standards, the ideal changeover time is 30 minutes for each product changeover during tank cleaning. This research aims to reduce the duration of changes over time and reduce wasted costs in purchasing cleaning solvents (solvents) needed in the tank cleaning process at each batch change. The method of this research is a combination of A3 Problem Solving and Single-Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), which is designed to compile documentation solutions in a consistent, clear, and structured manner. Research findings reveal that the duration of the initial change required reaches 95 minutes with a monthly solvent purchase cost of IDR 10,500,000. By converting several internal activities into external activities, the duration of the change to be completed was reduced to 30 minutes, and the completion cost was IDR 3,500,000 per month. Overall, this research shows an over-time change efficiency of 68% and operational cost savings of up to 66% in the tank cleaning process.

Abstract

Tempe produced in Indonesia generally uses soybeans fermented with microorganisms as the main raw material. This fermented food is liked by many people from various levels of society because of its taste and protein and carbohydrate content. However, tempe can only last for 1-2 days. The average per capita consumption of tempe per week in 2023 increased by 0.143 kg from the previous year. The Central Statistics Agency revealed that the supply of around 335 thousand tons of local soybeans from 2.7 million tons of national soybean needs. The need for soybeans for tempe reaches 70% of the total national need, further strengthening the fact that the amount of local soybeans is decreasing so that the country must import to meet the supply of soybean needs. In the city of Semarang, tempe is made from imported soybeans. Course, other types of local beans are substitutes. The demand for tempe production continues to increase, but some producers have not been able to maintain the quality and durability of tempe. The 3-factor design helps to determine the treatment factors that affect the durability of tempe. Based on the experiment, the durability of tempe was influenced by factors of beans, inoculum, fermentation, bean-inoculum interaction, beans-fermentation, and beans-inoculum-fermentation. Cowpea tempe with yeast inoculum fermented for 24 hours had the best durability

Abstract

Aquaculture is fish farming, and hydroponics is the cultivation of plants/vegetables without soil, which means utilizing water and growing media. Aquaponic systems are a combination of fish farming (aquaculture) and soil-less plant/vegetable farming (hydroponics), creating a mutually beneficial relationship. This research aims to design and implement an automated system capable of monitoring and controlling the water turbidity level in aquaponic ponds using the SEN0189 sensor integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT) platform. The developed system utilizes a turbidity sensor, float switch, NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller, and connection to the Firebase cloud to enable real-time remote monitoring. The control logic in the system is designed to be able to take automatic water draining and filling actions based on the detected turbidity level parameters. Tests were conducted 98 times, showing a sensor success rate of 92% with 8% non-conforming readings due to program logic mismatches. The tests also revealed the significant influence of environmental lighting, where sensor results at night showed higher values despite clear water conditions. In addition, the system successfully avoided overlapping processes between draining and filling, with an operational success rate of 100% in the overall device test. The results show that the system is effective and reliable for maintaining water quality in aquaponic systems, as well as providing users with the convenience of remotely monitoring and managing water conditions through an IoT connection. This system can be an efficient alternative solution to support the success of fish and plant farming in household and commercial scale aquaponics.

Abstract

The proliferation of mobile-based learning apps on the Google Play Store has been facilitated by the advancement of information technology. However, the level of optimal use is still a challenge with several problems related to: 1) Perceived Ease of Use (PEU), 2) Perceived Usefulness (PU), 3) Behavioral Intention (BI), 4) Use Behavior (UB). Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence the acceptance (UB) of mobile-based learning applications using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This model uses the variables PEU, PU, BI, and UB. Data were collected through an online questionnaire with 107 respondents and analyzed using SEM-PLS. The results showed that PEU had a significant effect on PU (62.8%), but did not directly affect BI and UB. PU had a significant effect on BI (50.3%) and did not directly affect UB. While BI had a significant effect on UB (44.9%). This finding confirms that ease of use of an application (PEU) must go through usefulness (PU) to be able to influence user intention (BI), then BI influences UB or in other words BI mediation plays a very important role in bridging the influence of initial perceptions on actual use. The implications of this study can help developers of mobile-based learning applications to increase user engagement so that the application can be accepted and used by users.

Abstract

Workload is a major challenge in human resource management, especially in modern industrial environments. Workload imbalance between production operators can have a negative impact on productivity, operational efficiency, and employee welfare. This study aims to analyze the workload of operators using the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) method as an accurate approach. The results of the analysis show that all operators at the gathering station workstation experience excessive workload conditions, with FTE values ranging from 1.285 to 1.389. In contrast, operators at the gas station and well and pipeline station show FTE values within normal limits, namely between 1.013 and 1.028. This imbalance also affects the work performance of operators, especially at the gathering station, which shows a lower average performance value compared to other stations. As a solution, a recalculation of the workload was carried out after adding one operator each to each gathering station unit. The results showed that the FTE value was within the normal range, indicating an improvement in work distribution and the potential for increasing employee performance.
