Abstract

Character education in elementary schools has a very important role in forming students' moral ethics. Values ​​such as honesty, responsibility, empathy and discipline are taught to guide students in interacting with the social environment. This article aims to analyze how character education can be applied in building students' moral ethics in elementary schools, as well as the role of teachers and parents in this process. This research uses a literature review method, by examining various related literature sources that discuss the application of character education, both in the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and in daily life at school. The results of this study show that a consistent and collaborative approach between schools and families can strengthen student character formation. Effective character education does not only focus on teaching moral values, but also on forming students' ethical attitudes and behavior in their social life.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Erik H. Erikson's thoughts on the psychosocial development of children and its relevance to religious development. In his theory of the eight stages of human development, Erikson emphasizes that each stage has a psychosocial crisis that must be resolved by the individual. In the early childhood stage, children are in the phase of forming trust, autonomy, and initiative. These three aspects are important foundations for personality development, including in building religious awareness and experience. This study uses a qualitative approach through a literature study by examining various relevant sources. The results of the study show that children's religious development does not stand alone but is greatly influenced by the psychosocial dynamics they experience. Trust that grows from a warm relationship with parents will form a positive image of God, while support for children's autonomy and initiative encourages a deeper internalization of religious values. Thus, the role of family and environment are key factors in instilling religious values in a healthy and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Introduction. This study examines the managerial practices and leadership styles of school principals in 3T areas (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) in Indonesia, where geographical, infrastructural, and human resource challenges significantly impact the quality of education. Research Methods. This research employed a qualitative approach with a multiple case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving eight school principals and 24 teachers from four provinces classified as 3T regions (Papua Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Maluku Utara, and Kalimantan Utara) in 2024–2025. Data Analysis. Data were analysed using thematic analysis with open, axial, and selective coding assisted by NVivo 14 software. Results. The findings reveal that principals in 3T areas predominantly apply a blended managerial-leadership style: (1) adaptive-transformational leadership to motivate teachers; (2) resource-based managerial practices by maximising limited facilities and community involvement; and (3) situational decision-making oriented towards teacher welfare and student access. The main challenges include teacher turnover, inadequate infrastructure, and difficult internet access. Conclusion. Effective principals in 3T areas succeed by combining strong personal character, cultural approaches, and collaborative networks with local governments and communities. This study proposes the “Adaptive Contextual Leadership” model for school principals in disadvantaged areas.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh lingkungan terhadap prestasi belajar siswa. Lingkungan yang dimaksud meliputi lingkungan keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualititatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi,wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lingkungan memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar siswa. Lingkungan keluarga yang harmonis, fasilitas belajar yang memadai di sekolah, serta lingkungan masyarakat yang kondusif terbukti dapat meningkatkan motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa. Sebaliknya, lingkungan yang kurang mendukung dapat menghambat perkembangan akademik siswa. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan kerja sama antara orang tua, sekolah, dan masyarakat dalam menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang positif.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a religious program to improve the religious attitudes of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Jatirejo. This research was motivated by concerns about the moral decline of the younger generation, as evidenced by various negative actions within the school environment. Through the implementation of the religious program, it is hoped that students' personalities will develop in harmony with religious values. In this study, a descriptive qualitative approach was applied with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data sources included the principal, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and eighth-grade students. The research findings revealed that religious programs at SMP Negeri 1 Jatirejo were conducted routinely, including congregational Dhuhr prayers, Quran memorization, istighasah prayers, hadrah, short Islamic boarding schools, and commemoration of Islamic holidays. The program's implementation went well because it was supported by effective school management, adequate facilities, and the involvement of all school members. Religious programs play a vital role in shaping students' religious character, encompassing faith, religious practice, noble character, and religious knowledge. However, their implementation still faces several challenges, such as low levels of awareness among some students and minimal involvement from several relevant parties. The program's success is supported by close collaboration between teachers and school management, as well as the availability of adequate facilities. However, obstacles encountered include a lack of individual discipline and technical issues in operational implementation. This study reveals that the religious program implemented at SMP Negeri 1 Jatirejo has successfully strengthened students' religious character. However, ongoing efforts are needed to address ongoing challenges. These findings are expected to contribute to both the theoretical and practical aspects of religious character formation in the school environment.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the growing severity of the global ecological crisis, which has not only drawn the attention of scientists and policymakers but has also encouraged the emergence of new awareness among Muslim thinkers. The Qur’an, as the holy scripture of Islam, contains fundamental principles related to environmental preservation, making it relevant to be studied through the perspective of ecological exegesis. In this context, Quraish Shihab and Abdul Mustaqim are two important figures who both pay great attention to environmental issues, albeit with different methodologies and exegetical approaches. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The analysis technique used is comparative analysis, examining the thought of Quraish Shihab in his book Islam & Lingkungan (Islam and the Environment) and Abdul Mustaqim in his book Tafsir Ekologi: Relasi Eko-Teologis Tuhan, Manusia, dan Alam (Ecological Exegesis: The Eco-Theological Relationship of God, Humans, and Nature). The findings show that both figures share similarities in making the Qur’an the primary foundation, integrating reason, classical exegesis, and modern science in interpretation, and emphasizing moral values in preserving nature. However, there are methodological differences: Quraish Shihab emphasizes a normative-moral approach with a reflective and contextual exegetical style, viewing the environmental crisis as part of a broader spiritual and moral crisis of humanity. Meanwhile, Abdul Mustaqim highlights an eco-theological approach with a critical-emancipatory style, emphasizing the triadic relationship between God, humans, and nature, with a stronger orientation toward social transformation. Thus, this research affirms that the ecological exegesis methodologies developed by Quraish Shihab and Abdul Mustaqim complement one another. Both contribute significantly to the development of contemporary ecological exegesis, which is not only normative but also applicative in providing real solutions to global environmental problems.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays a vital role in shaping students’ character amidst an increasingly complex world. Education serves not only to enhance learners’ intellectual abilities but also aims to foster individuals of noble character who are responsible, disciplined, and possess strong moral values. This article discusses the role of Islamic Religious Education in shaping students’ character through the instilling of religious values, the cultivation of positive behaviour, and the exemplary conduct of teachers in the learning process. The method used in this article is a literature review, examining various scientific sources related to character education and Islamic Religious Education. The findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education can serve as a primary foundation in shaping students’ character through the values of honesty, responsibility, discipline, tolerance, and social concern. Therefore, the implementation of Islamic Religious Education must be carried out comprehensively within the school environment, the family, and the wider community to ensure that national educational objectives are achieved optimally.

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have brought about significant changes in patterns of family communication and interaction. Gadgets, which were originally intended to make people’s lives easier, now often act as a barrier to emotional closeness within the household. The phenomenon of ‘endless scrolling’ on social media has led to a decline in the quality of communication between partners and between parents and children. This article discusses the concept of the sakinah family from an Islamic perspective, as well as the challenges arising from excessive gadget use. This study employs a literature review method, analysing various sources on the sakinah family, family psychology, and the impact of digital technology. The findings indicate that uncontrolled gadget use can trigger domestic conflicts, reduce the quality of communication, and weaken the family’s spiritual values and sense of togetherness. Therefore, efforts are needed to foster a healthy digital culture through intensive communication, restrictions on gadget use, strengthening shared worship, and instilling Islamic values within the family. In this way, the concept of the ‘sakinah’ family can still be realised amidst the rapid tide of digitalisation.
