Abstract

The research entitled “Makna Simbol dalam Novel The Fault In Our Stars karya John Green” tries to reveal the hidden meaning conveyed by the creator through the signs contained in his work. The sign analysis in this novel uses Tarigan's semantic approach. The purpose of this study is to describe the symbols in the novel The Fault In Our Stars. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with research that focuses on the meaning of symbols. Data collection techniques used in this study are reading and recording techniques. The data used are primary and secondary data from the novel The Fault In Our Stars. Data analysis was carried out by reading and understanding the novel The Fault In Our Stars as a whole, making a synopsis, describing how a symbol in a moment that is very important to know what its meaning is, and making conclusions. The results of this study indicate that there are several real examples of a symbol that the author of the novel wants to convey through unexpected things that the readers of this novel may not know and realize. Among them is a moment where Augustus' character takes a bite of a cigarette he doesn't want to light or a swing that reminds Hazel's character of something in the past.

Abstract

This research is entitled The Love Story of the main character in the novel The Sun Is also A Star by Nicola Yoon. The main character named Natsha Kingsley, a Jamaican girl who is tall in New York City is struggling against the deportation that the American government will carry out against her family. Natasha is also a realistic woman who doesn't believe in love and is struggling to keep her family from being deported. However, her meeting with Daniel by chance, makes things complicated. Therefore, the American government plans to deport them today. This study aims to describe how the main character in Nicola Yoon's novel The Sun Is Also A star and the struggle of the main character's love story in Nicola Yoon's novel The Sun Is Also A Star. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. Descriptive qualitative research is one of the types of research that is included in the type of qualitative research. The purpose of this research is to reveal events or facts, circumstances, phenomena, variables and circumstances that occurred during the research by presenting what actually happened. The approach applied is the Sociology of Literature. Sociology of literature is a reflective branch of literary research. This research is in great demand by researchers who want to see literature as a mirror of people's lives. Sociology of literature is research that focuses on human problems.

Abstract

This study uses a new historicism approach with the aim of describing historical, cultural and economic representations in Yanti Soeparno's novel Runtuhnya Menara Azan. The data in this study are in the form of language units that reflect historical, cultural and economic representations. The data source in this study is the novel Runtuhnya Menara Azan by Yanti Soeparmo, published by Mizan Pustaka in 2009. The instrument in this research is the author himself who is oriented towards research on historical, cultural and economic representations, in the novel Runtuhnya Menara Azan by Yanti Soeparmo. . The data collection technique in this study was carried out by reading and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique is carried out with the stages of categorization, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that first, in Yanti Soeparmo's novel Runtuhnya Menara Azan, there is a reflection of Indonesian history regarding the theft and mass massacres committed by the Bumiputera people against the Europeans who had taken over the people's rights. Second, the cultural representation in Yanti Soeparmo's novel Runtuhnya Menara Azan is western culture which includes the use of language and class division of the Bumipuetra people. Third, the economic representation depicted in Yanti Soeparmo's novel Runtuhnya Menara Azan is a weak economic condition that causes people to suffer and the emergence of various types of diseases, such as starvation to death.

Abstract

This research is entitled Changes in Social Life in the Main Character in the Novel Room by Emma Donoghue. This study aims to analyze and find out how changes in social life can occur in the main character in the novel Room by Emma Donoghue. The method that will be used by the researcher in this research is descriptive analysis method. The approach used in reviewing this novel uses a sociology of literature approach. From the results obtained, the changes in social life in this novel are divided into several stages, namely: 1) the social life of the character 2) the twists and turns of the social life of the character 3) the change in the social life of the character 4) the change in the attitude of the character's life 5) improvement in the social change of the character and the last 6) Causes of Changes in Social Characters. From these five stages, the lives of the main characters Joy and Jack change from living their lives in a small room, to living their lives in a free space and a wide world with the help of the local community and the police.

Abstract

Novel The Bluest Eye merupakan karya pertama dari penulis Amerika bernama Toni Morrison. The Bluest Eye adalah novel yang menggambarkan kehidupan masyarakat ras kulit hitam ditengah kekejaman para orang kulit putih di Lorain, Ohio. Dalam novel ini Pecola Breedlove digambarkan sebagai seorang gadis berumur sebelas tahun yang mempunyai kulit hitam dan sering mendapatkan diskriminasi dari orang kulit putih dan orang sekitarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas diskriminasi ras pada tokoh utama yaitu Pecola Breedlove dalam novel The Bluest Eye karya Toni Morrison. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu melalui tiga tahap diantaranya membaca, mengumpulkan data dan mencatat data. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa diskriminasi ras pada tokoh Pecola Breedlove yang tergambar dalam novel dalam novel The Bluest Eye ini meliputi berbagai hal, diantaranya yaitu adanya bullying, sikap acuh, keterasingan dan kekerasan.

Abstract

This study aims to represent and find out how the signs of feminism described in the film Captain Marvel, the analysis used is semiotic analysis of John Fiske covering the level of reality, level of representation, and level of ideology. The film Captain Marvel tells about how a woman struggles for her rights from a series of actions to become a female super hero. The results showed the codes in Captain Marvel's film that the value of feminism is represented at the level of reality, namely the code of behavior, costume, appearance, manner of speech, makeup, movement, expression. The level of representation of the value of feminism is seen in character, camera, conflict, action, dialogue. Then at the level of ideology illustrated the value of feminism, especially the flow of liberal feminism because of the liberal feminism started from ourselves to get gender justice. After analyzing from each sequence category in the film Captain Marvel, the researcher draws the conclusion that feminism specifically discusses the struggle against discrimination through ways of appearing, carrying out actions, and resolving conflicts, which can be seen from codes at the level of reality, representation and ideology as contained in the theory of The Codes of Television by John Fiske.

Abstract

Children are entrusted with extraordinary capacity, so that in fact to restore in accordance with His fitra should be equipped with character education, that way literature is an educational medium that is able to guide children because a literary work contains didactic value and entertainment for children. The Little Prince larya Antoine De Saint-Exupary is a book loved by readers because it contains didactic value that gives lessons about kindness. The purpose of this study is to describe the didactic values contained in the Novel The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery. The method used in this study is descriptive analysis, is a descriptive analysis is a combination of two methods, using a way of describing the facts which is then analyzed. The data collection method used in this study is the Listen and Record technique method. Then, the analysis used by analyzing Miles and Huberman model data, namely Data Collecion, Data Reduction, Data Display, Conclusion. The result of this analysis is that in the novel The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery there is a didactic value in the form of moral values and motivational values described by the characters in the novel. So that this novel deserves to be presented to children so that they are able to learn about the values contained in thenua, especially the moral values.

Abstract

This research entitled is “Penerjemahan Kata demi Kata pada Komposisi Minuman Seduh”. The purpose of this study are to explain the translation used in the composition text for brewed drinks. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data collection techniques that used in this research is literature study. The data used are primary from 10 brewed drinks composition texts (Tora Bika Gilus Mix, ABC Kopi Susu, Tora Bika Mocacinno, Indocaffe CafeMix, Goodday Carrebian Nut, Goodday Mocacinno, Kapal Api, Top White Coffee, Top Cofee, Top Barista Spcial Blend). Data analysis was carried out by reading and understanding from brewed beverage packaging, presenting the data to be analyzed for this reserch and making conclusions. The results of this study is answering that the translation used in the compositions tesxt of brewed drinks is word for word translation, namly by direcly translation the source language to target language in a straight line between lines.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Emotions of Amy Dunne's Character in Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl Novel". This study aims at identifying and describing the emotions experienced by the character Amy Dunne as well as the moral messages that could be drawn from the emotions she experiences. In analyzing the emotions of Amy Dunne's character in the novel Gone Girl, the author applies the theory of emotional classification according to Mashar and the theory of moral messages according to supported by (Nurgiyantoro, 2015). This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods, and data collection techniques using reading and note-taking techniques. The results showed that there are seven classifications of emotions, namely the concept of guilt, pent-up guilt, self-punishment, shame, sadness, hatred, and love, the author only found three types of emotion classification, namely the emotions of hatred, sadness, and love, while the moral message that could be taken from the novel Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, the author finds that the moral message is conveyed indirectly through the characteristics of the characters Nick Dunne and Amy Dunne who are a husband and wife, namely disrespect.

Abstract

This research is entitled "The Fairytale Country in the Novel Alice Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll". This study aims to identify and explain the setting of the place in the novel Alice Through The Looking Glass. In analyzing the setting of the place, the author uses the theory of Aminuddin (2013). The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative and uses data collection techniques to observe and record. The approach in this study uses an objective approach because the analysis in this study only focuses on the intrinsic elements of the novel. Based on the results of this research, it is found that the setting of the place is from two worlds, namely the real world that Alice lives in and the world of mirrors. All of the place setting data found consisted of houses, parks, forests, train, shops, and boats. However, the setting where the house is found by the author is in the real world where Alice lives and the world of mirrors.
