Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using Pogo Anagram Game in improving vocabulary mastery of grade X students at SMK NU Pace in the 2023/2024 academic year. The method used in this study was an experiment with a pre-test and post-test design, involving 29 students from the X TKJ-2 class. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test to measure students' vocabulary mastery before and after the application. The results showed that the average score of students' pre-test was 60, which indicated unsatisfactory vocabulary mastery. After the implementation of the Pogo Anagram Game, the average post-test score increased to 80, indicating a significant improvement in students' vocabulary acquisition. Statistical analysis using t-test resulted in a t-count value >= 1.699 (at 5% significance level and degree of freedom = 28), which confirms that there is a significant difference between pre- and post-learning vocabulary acquisition. The conclusion of this study is that Pogo Anagram Game is effective in improving students' vocabulary acquisition. The findings make an important contribution to the development of innovative and engaging learning methods, and demonstrate the potential of using educational games in the context of English language learning. This research is expected to be a reference for educators in implementing more interactive and fun learning methods to improve students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

Visual illustrations represent text or ideas with real and authentic contexts, which can improve students' reading comprehension and attract their interest in learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze significant differences in students' reading comprehension skills before and after being taught using visual illustrations. This study used quantitative method and quasi-experimental design of one group pre-test and post-test. The sample technique used was convenience sampling. Data collection techniques were pre-test and post-test with 10 multiple choice questions. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results showed that the average pre-test score was 58.1 in the low category and the average post-test was 82.6 in the very good category. Based on the results of the t-test analysis obtained tcount (1.96) > ttable (1683). So, Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. The n-gain score of 0.58 (58%) shows the effectiveness of visual illustration in improving students' reading comprehension. Thus, there is a significant difference in student learning outcomes through the use of visual illustration in increasing students’ reading comprehension skills in tenth grade at SMK NU Pace in the academic year of 2023/2024.

Abstract

Reading comprehension skills are very important in an educational context, especially for students learning English as a foreign language. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the story mapping method in enhancing students' reading comprehension skills in English narrative texts. The research was conducted at SMK NU Pace, focusing on students in class X TKJ-2, consisting of 30 students as a sample from a population of 207 students. The method used was Quasi Experimental with a One Group Pre-test - Post-test design. Data were collected through reading tests administered before and after the implementation of the story mapping method. Data analysis was performed using the sample t-test to determine significant differences in students' reading abilities. The results showed a significant difference in students' reading comprehension skills before and after the application of story mapping, with a t-value obtained of > = 1.699 (at a significance level of 5% and degrees of freedom = 29), indicating that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. So “There is a significant difference before and after being taught by using story mappimg effectively to improve reading comprehension of class X TKJ students at SMK NU Pace in the academic year 2023-2024”.

Indonesian students currently have a low level of literacy. Indonesia's literacy score in PISA 2022 dropped from 371 to 359. It is indicated that they have difficulty in gaining understanding from the text they read, it makes them less interested in reading activities, especially reading English texts. The objectives of this study are to find out the significant difference in students' reading comprehension skill before and after using SQ3R technique. This research is a quasi experimental research one group pre-test post-test. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Rejoso by using the population of all tenth grade namely 321 students, the sample used was class X-8 with 34 students. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling type convenience sampling. Data collection used tests. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics and inferential statistics t-test. Based on the results of the pre-test showed an average value of 46.76 with a low category. While the results of the post-test showed an increase with an average value of 85,29. From the t-test calculation results obtained tcount=19,06 >ttable=1,692 with a significant level of 5% with dk=33, so that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So that "there is a significant difference in students' reading comprehension skill before and after using the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recall, Review) technique in the tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Rejoso in the academic year 2023/2024".

Abstract

English listening skills are essential in the process of learning English. However, many students face challenges in developing these skills due to insufficient practice, external distractions, and internal barriers such as lack of motivation and concentration. Observations have shown that students in class X-2 at SMAN 1 Sukomoro still have suboptimal listening comprehension, affecting the teaching and learning process. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using podcast on Spotify to improve the English listening skills of students in class X-2 at SMAN 1 Sukomoro for the academic year 2023/2024. This research employs a quantitative method with a pretest and posttest design (one-group) to measure the English listening skills before and after using podcast on Spotify. The sample consists of students in class X-2 at SMAN 1 Sukomoro. The convenience sampling was used in this research. Data were collected through the English listening skills tests and analyzed using statistical descriptive and statistical t-tests to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. The findings indicate a significant difference of the students' English listening skills after using podcast on Spotify. The average pretest score was 66,36, while the average posttest score increased to 80,60. The t-test results showed a tcount of 17,8 with a ttable< 0.05 is 1,692, indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The average score improvement was 14,24, which is 21,45% improvements to demonstrating the effectiveness of podcasts as a learning aid. Using podcast on Spotify effectively enhances students' English listening skills. These results suggest that integrating digital audio technology in language learning can provide significant benefits. Further research is needed to explore long-term impacts and applications in other learning contexts.
