Abstract

Backgroud: Boxing sport requires a complex physical and physiological preparation. Many young boxers experience a significant decrease in performance and speed in the final rounds of the fight. A field study was conducted on 20 adolescent boxers (17-18 years) in Babil Governorate to assess the effect of integration of 'anaerobic threshold exercises' with the nutritional intervention under investigation. Methods: The study lasted for 8 weeks and the sample trained at a high intensity (between 80% and 90% of the maximum) where lactic acid begins to accumulate in the muscles. The experimental group was defined as the group that took one capsule of B-Complex vitamins every morning after breakfast and the control group only exercised. Results: The results indicated a clear advantage of the experimental group in the post-tests, showing a significant increase in explosive strength of the arms, speed endurance and the ability to sustain high performance in three consecutive rounds without a significant decrease. The scientific reason for this achievement is due to the role of B-Complex vitamins as enzymatic co-factors that enhance the metabolism of energy production (ATP) under hypoxic conditions, while minimising the adverse effects of the accumulation of lactic acid. Conclusions: These vitamins, particularly B6 and B12, were crucial in protecting the central nervous system, stalling “central fatigue” and preserving motor coordination and dazzling precision. The study recommends that coaches should include anaerobic threshold exercises during the special preparation period and support with morning B-Complex under medical supervision to enhance endurance and performance of players.

Abstract

Backgroud: The aim of the present study is to develop and apply an instructional program based on small, condensed learning units, along with specifically designed exercises to teach the shot put event to students. The research has two basic purposes; the first is to find out the effect of this method of instruction on the development of explosive power on the basis of the learning process and the second to investigate the effect of the small-unit learning method combined with the special exercises on the refinement of technical execution and the increase of achievement level in the learning activity of shot put among students who constitute the experimental class. Methods: The research approach used is experimental method which is considered one of the best and reliable technique to get scientific knowledge about a certain problem. This is because it can predict results, control the variables of the study, and make it easier to draw conclusions and understand the causes of the study. The goals set by the researcher and the methodology chosen for the implementation of the goals had a significant impact on the type and composition of the target population and the sample selected from it. The researcher determined the study population to be the first-year students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (CPES) with a total of 600 students spread in six academic sections. These sections were chosen by random selection (drawing of lots) and subsequently, Section (C) (24 students) was selected as the experimental group. Following removal of students who were ill or not making sufficiently well, there were 20 students in the experimental group. This group was given instructions through small education units method with specific exercises. In a parallel drawing method, section (W) was drawn as the control group, which was the normal method used with physical education lessons. A similar group of 20 students was assigned to this group in a random lottery procedure, so that all students could be equitably divided between the two groups. Results: The results of the study indicated that the teaching based on small learning units together with the specific exercises had a significant impact on the learning process of a shot put skill. This method had been proven to improve the physical abilities associated to the activity (such as explosive power) along with the psychological state of the pupils included in the sample, who showed a satisfactory level of strength. Conclusions: That the small learning unit method with the use of special exercises was more effective than the conventional instructional method in physical education classes in terms of both learning and technical performance of the shot put and improving the overall level of achievement of the subjects of the sample.

Abstract

Backgroud: The current research aims to explore the degree of knowledge about artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the degree of creative thinking ability, in the group of students studying at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Karbala. Besides measuring these two variables separately, the research also seeks to determine the nature and the strength of relationship between the two variables, as well as to determine whether statistically significant differences in these two variables can be ascribed to variables like gender and academic level. Methods: In order to attain these goals, the research took a descriptive-analytical research method. The sample used was a total number of 100 male and female students randomly chosen out of a population of third-stage students and the sample was balanced in representation of both male and female students to obtain the same balance across the genders. To conduct the data collection, a 20-item scale was designed in particular to evaluate the extent of awareness of artificial intelligence technologies in students. Along with that, a distinct test of creative thinking skills (with a total of 25 items) was used to measure the ability of the participants to think creatively. Results: The study results showed that the overall level of awareness of the artificial intelligence technologies among the sampled students was rather high. Additionally, the use of Pearson correlation coefficient showed the presence of a good, positive and statistically significant correlation between the level of AI awareness among students and their respective abilities in creative thinking with a calculated correlation coefficient of r = 0.68. The given finding refers to a rather high degree of creativity among the students, who took part in the study. Conclusions: On the basis of these findings, the research comes to the conclusion that the creation and improvement of awareness about the artificial intelligence technologies is one of the effective and promising ways to develop and improve the skills of creative thinking among the students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Karbala.

Abstract

Backgroud: The aim of this study is to develop lesson plans incorporating skill-based exercises based on Driver’s model to influence constructive thinking and the acquisition of a number of basic handball skills, and to investigate the impact of skill-based exercises based on Driver’s model on constructive thinking and the acquisition of a number of basic handball skills. Methods: The researcher employed an experimental approach using an experimental and control group design with pre- and post-tests, as this was deemed appropriate for the research problem and objectives. The research population consisted of fourth-year preparatory students at Amr ibn Jundub al-Ghafari Preparatory School, Takrit Education Division, General Directorate of Education for Salah al-Din Governorate, for the 2022/2023 academic year, comprising 84 students distributed across three classes (A, B and C). The research sample was selected at random by drawing lots from sections (B) and (C), comprising 56 students (28 students in each section), The 8 students from the pilot study sample were excluded, leaving 48 students, representing 57.142 per cent of the original research population. They were divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 24 students in each group, After conducting the pre-tests, implementing the teaching plans, carrying out the post-tests and collecting the data, the researcher analysed the data statistically using SPSS software. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in both groups, but the improvement in the experimental group was higher. The scores of constructive thinking and basic handball skills (handling, dribbling, scoring) were significantly improved in the group using the Driver model compared to the control group. Conclusions: The study concluded that there is a positive and effective impact of skill-based exercises based on the Driver model on the development of constructive thinking and the acquisition of a number of basic handball skills. The model proved highly effective, motivating students to learn more quickly than with traditional teaching methods. It also contributed to increasing students’ enthusiasm for learning and reduced boredom and disengagement from the lesson as a result of their collaboration and their ability to propose and refine ideas, and whilst the control group showed improvement, this was to a lesser extent than that of the experimental group. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the Driver model and the skill-based exercises used in enhancing constructive thinking and the acquisition of a number of basic handball skills.

Abstract

Backgroud: This research aims to examine the effect of blended learning method using current educational technologies on the learning process and improvement of discus throwing skill of second year students (experimental group). It also attempts to determine how technology-based blended learning affects learners compared to the effect of the traditional teaching method normally used by the course teachers (control group) by comparing the learning outcomes and performance levels of both learners. Methods: In order to meet these goals, the researcher used the experimental method, which is the most suitable method because it allows the researcher to control the variables and generate a cause-effect relationship between the independent variable (blended learning approach) and the dependent variable (the level of performance of discus throwing). The subjects of the research were divided into four academic sections comprising 110 second year students studying at College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Al-Muthanna University for the 2021-2022 academic year. A sample of six academic sections (A, B, C, D, E, and F) was selected for the research. Twenty-eight students were randomly selected in a lottery to place in Section D. Subsequently, the researcher narrowed down the sample so those in the sample had homogeneity and equivalence on the relevant variables (such as age, height, weight and prior skill) with the others being excluded. Thus, the final number of students was 25 students, who were randomly divided into two groups: students who were taught using modern technologies (experimental group) and students who were taught in the traditional manner as applied by teachers (control group). Results: Based on the research findings, it was found that the blended learning method using modern technological tools was more positive and effective to increase the students' performance in discus throwing compared to the traditional learning method. Moreover, the results showed that the effect of the technological tools and techniques applied in the educational curriculum was clear and tangible on the learning outcomes of the students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. Conclusions: This was manifested in the enhancement of physical abilities and neuromuscular coordination of the students and was translated into high level of achievement and technical actions of students' throwing at discus among the members of the research sample.
