Abstract

This narrative literature review aims to critically examine the role of Islamic Education Management (MPI) in realizing effective school governance and to propose an integrative framework bridging Islamic values with contemporary evidence-based effectiveness indicators. Unlike previous reviews that predominantly focus on the normative theological foundations of MPI or treat school governance through a purely secular lens, this study offers a novel conceptual contribution by operationalizing abstract Islamic principles into a concrete, multidimensional governance model. Employing a narrative synthesis of peer-reviewed literature from 2020 to 2026, the study analyzes how core MPI values—syura, amanah, ‘adl, and ihsan—intersect with fundamental management functions. The results indicate that MPI transcends conventional administrative models by embedding spiritual accountability, participatory decision-making, equitable resource distribution, and continuous excellence into institutional practices, thereby enhancing stakeholder trust and organizational climate. However, the synthesis also identifies critical implementation barriers, including financial constraints, regulatory tensions, and human resource gaps, which necessitate deliberate leadership commitment and contextual adaptation. The study concludes that MPI functions not merely as an ethical overlay, but as a holistic governance paradigm capable of harmonizing modern educational standards with Islamic epistemological foundations. Ultimately, this review provides an actionable conceptual framework for policymakers and school leaders to cultivate ethically grounded, high-performing educational environments, effectively bridging the critical gap between faith-based values and empirical school governance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of leadership at Madinatul Munawwarah Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren), Bukittinggi from a charismatic leadership model to a participatory leadership model. The research employed a qualitative approach using data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants consisted of senior teachers, pesantren leaders, and alumni. The findings revealed that the charismatic leadership led by Buya Pimpinan from 2001 to 2022 had a significant influence on the development of the pesantren. This can be seen from the substantial increase in the number of students from 13 in 2001 to 453 in 2021. Buya’s charismatic leadership was characterized by exemplary conduct, authority, depth of knowledge, and the ability to unite all elements of the pesantren. After the passing of Buya Pimpinan in May 2022, the leadership of the pesantren transformed into a more participatory model by involving the vice leader and the head of the madrasah in decision-making processes. This transformation resulted in a more open and systematic organizational culture, although during the transition period the number of students declined. Nevertheless, conditions have begun to stabilize over the last two years. This study demonstrates that leadership transformation is an important process in maintaining the sustainability of Islamic educational institutions amid social changes and modern challenges.

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of society has transformed civic engagement, yet high internet access has not consistently translated into ethical online behavior or critical digital literacy among university students. This study examines how integrating digital citizenship into Civic Education can enhance students’ democratic participation. Employing a narrative literature review, this research synthesizes peer-reviewed journals, academic books, and policy documents published between 2020 and 2026. The analysis reveals that digital citizenship encompasses digital literacy, ethical awareness, security, and active participation, all of which align closely with the foundational objectives of Civic Education. Effective integration requires moving beyond traditional instruction toward interactive pedagogical models, including project-based digital campaigns, structured online deliberation, and critical media analysis. These strategies significantly improve students’ capacity to evaluate information, engage in respectful discourse, and participate constructively in democratic processes. The study concludes that systematically embedding digital citizenship into Civic Education is essential for cultivating critically engaged and ethically responsible digital citizens. Successful implementation demands institutional support, continuous educator training, and curriculum adaptation.

Abstract

This research addresses the rapidly declining understanding of the Ulu script and Islamic values among youth in South Bengkulu due to intense globalization and modernization. It aims to identify Islamic values embedded in the kayik beterang section of the Ulu Serawai manuscript, analyze how they reflect Serawai local wisdom, and examine their practical relevance for contemporary cultural education. Employing a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and systematic content analysis of manuscript MNB 07.18. Data validity was ensured through source, technique, and time triangulation, while analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Findings reveal that the manuscript integrates core Islamic principles encompassing faith, worship, ethics, and social relations within indigenous customary practices. These values are manifested through monotheistic affirmations, ritual purification processes, moral conduct guidelines, and communal solidarity, demonstrating a harmonious synthesis between Islamic teachings and Serawai cultural identity. The study concludes that the manuscript functions not merely as a historical artifact but as a dynamic medium for character and cultural education. Its contextual integration into modern curricula can foster a generation that is religiously grounded, ethically conscious, and culturally resilient. By preserving and actualizing these indigenous Islamic values, educators can effectively counter cultural erosion while strengthening local identity.

Abstract

Vocational education is expected not only to produce technically competent graduates but also to cultivate work ethics, integrity, and moral responsibility in entering the labour market. However, career guidance evaluation in vocational schools often remains administrative and has not sufficiently assessed the internalisazion of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) values as the ethical foundation of work behaviour. This study aims to develop an evaluation model for vocational career guidance based on the integration of Islamic values through an adaptation of the Kirkpatrick framework across four levels: reaction, learning, behavior, and result. The study employed a research and development (R&D) design involving preliminary investigation, construct development, expert validation, instrument try-out, and empirical testing at SMK Nasional Malang. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, document analysis, and expert judgement. Quantitative analysis was conducted using PLS-SEM to examine convergent validity, discriminant validity, construct reliability, and structural relationships among the evaluation levels. The development process produced an evaluation model mapping stakeholder reactions, students' career knowledge and Islamic value learning, work-ethical behavioural change, and program impact on career readiness. PLS-SEM results indicate outer loading values of 0.721–0.904, AVE 0.641–0.774, CR 0.903–0.946, and path coefficients of beta = 0.589–0.643 (p < 0.001). The model offers an integrative evaluation framework linking career orientation, vocational competence, and Islamic work ethics as a basis for improving career guidance programs.

Abstract

The transition to Society 5.0 demands higher-order thinking skills, yet conventional pedagogies often fall short in addressing complex, ill-structured problems. This study aims to conceptualize the revitalization of the traditional Bahtsul Masail (BM) method to effectively foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills in this new era. Employing a qualitative literature review, data were systematically retrieved from the Google Scholar database (2020-2025) and analyzed through thematic coding and conceptual synthesis. The findings reveal that while traditional BM inherently aligns with advanced cognitive processes, its classical confinement limits contemporary relevance. The proposed revitalization expands the inquiry scope to socio-technological dilemmas, integrates empirical big data, and leverages digital collaborative platforms. Furthermore, it anchors problem-solving in Maqashid Syariah to ensure human-centric outcomes. Ultimately, the revitalized BM transforms from a classical jurisprudential exercise into a dynamic, ethically grounded incubator for 21st-century competencies. This modernized framework provides actionable insights for educators and policymakers seeking to cultivate future-ready graduates, successfully bridging Islamic intellectual heritage with the cognitive and moral demands of Society 5.0.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of prophetic leadership values with transformational leadership and its impact on organizational culture and madrasah quality improvement. Using a qualitative library research design, this study analyzed 22 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019-2024 retrieved from Google Scholar. The findings reveal that integrating five prophetic dimensions (siddiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah, and rahmah) with transformational leadership components creates a culturally authentic framework that transforms hierarchical madrasah cultures into collaborative, spiritually grounded learning communities. This integration operates through three levels: conceptual alignment, practical application, and outcome enhancement, producing superior results compared to conventional transformational leadership alone. The synthesized evidence demonstrates significant improvements across multiple quality dimensions, including academic achievement, character development, organizational effectiveness, and community satisfaction. The study concludes that prophetic-transformational leadership provides a holistic approach that balances academic excellence with spiritual authenticity in Islamic educational settings. These findings offer practical implications for madrasah principals and policymakers in developing leadership competencies and revising accreditation standards to incorporate prophetic values.

Abstract

The era of information disruption presents unprecedented challenges to children’s moral and cognitive development, necessitating robust educational interventions. This study explores the urgent need for synergy between Tarbiyah Awaliyah (early Islamic education) and formal Madrasah to foster resilient character in children. Employing a qualitative literature review methodology, this research synthesizes peer-reviewed articles from Google Scholar published between 2018 and 2023. The findings reveal that current educational practices often operate in isolation, creating pedagogical discontinuity and value inconsistency that leave children vulnerable to digital threats. To address this, a collaborative synergy model is proposed, comprising six interdependent components: aligned curriculum frameworks, professional learning communities, integrated assessment systems, family partnerships, progressive digital literacy pathways, and community resource networks. This model establishes a cohesive moral ecosystem that transitions children from foundational value internalization to advanced critical digital discernment grounded in Islamic ethics. Ultimately, this study provides actionable insights for educators and policymakers, emphasizing that sustainable character education in the digital age requires coordinated, multi-stakeholder engagement rather than isolated institutional efforts.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic education frequently struggles with authoritarian, rote-learning practices that fundamentally contradict its emancipatory theological ideals. This study aims to resolve this pedagogical stagnation by synthesizing Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy with Ibn Khaldun’s humanistic educational philosophy. Employing a qualitative library research method with a comparative-philosophical approach, the study critically analyzes primary texts and recent scholarly literature published between 2019 and 2024. The findings reveal that while Freire offers robust socio-political conscientization, it inherently lacks spiritual depth. Conversely, Ibn Khaldun provides essential psychological safety and gradual learning but requires a critical edge for modern social justice. By integrating both paradigms, this research proposes a novel conceptual framework termed "Prophetic Critical Pedagogy." This integrated model successfully marries structural liberation with spiritual transcendence, transforming the classroom into a dynamic space for dialogic inquiry and moral action. Ultimately, this framework offers Islamic educational institutions a transformative pathway to cultivate critically conscious, morally grounded, and socially responsible learners, effectively bridging the epistemological gap between classical Islamic wisdom and modern critical theory.
