Abstract

This study examines students' reading interest and analyzes the strategic efforts of the library head in enhancing reading engagement at SMP IT Al-Karim Sekayu. Employing a convergent mixed-methods design, quantitative questionnaire data from 39 seventh-grade students, selected through simple random sampling from a population of 189, were integrated with qualitative data from in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the library head. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentage techniques and the TSR (High, Medium, Low) categorization based on mean and standard deviation, while qualitative data followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model; both strands were merged during interpretation to triangulate findings. Results reveal that 74.36% of students fall into the moderate reading interest category, 7.69% high, and 17.95% low, indicating that reading remains situational—triggered by free time or exam preparation—rather than a consistent daily habit. The library head implemented targeted strategies, including establishing a collaborative book club, upgrading collections and facilities, optimizing user services, and positioning the library as an alternative learning space. These interventions are associated with a 107.14% increase in average library visitation (from 14 to 29 visitors per period) and positive student evaluations, with 56.41% rating service quality as very good. This study addresses a gap in empirical research on school library leadership within Islamic integrated school contexts, offering theoretical insights into user-centric literacy management and practical recommendations for administrators seeking to transition students from situational to habitual readers. However, sustained reinforcement remains necessary to deepen engagement beyond the moderate level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reorientation of School-Based Management (SBM) in improving the competencies of Teaching Practicum Students (PPL) at MIN 1 Banda Aceh through the strengthening of school policies, service systems, and educational quality management. This qualitative descriptive study involved the principal, vice principal, mentor teachers, PPL coordinator, and PPL students. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that SBM reorientation was implemented through policy strengthening that provided opportunities for PPL students to participate in learning activities and school management. The SBM service system was realized through mentor teacher guidance, academic supervision, intensive coordination between the madrasah and higher education institutions, and the provision of a conducive learning environment. SBM quality management contributed to the improvement of pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies of prospective teachers through continuous coaching, evaluation, and the development of a quality culture. However, challenges remain, including differences in student adaptability, limited practicum duration, and less-than-optimal stakeholder coordination. The study concludes that competency-oriented SBM reorientation strengthens the quality of PPL implementation and supports educational quality improvement in madrasah.

Abstract

This survey aims to classify the similarities in the characteristics of the Malay-Bangka community's understanding of traditional Islamic education by referring to six indicators, namely the place of teaching, teaching methods, educational curriculum, educational orientation, management, and education funding. Respondents came from various groups, including work, education, and residence. namely 293 people, used snowball technique. Data collected with questionaire that distributed via google form. Data analysis used descriptive and multivariate statistics with the non-hierarchical cluster method or K-Means cluster analysis, assisted by SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science). The results of the analysis show that based on the similarity in understanding characteristics, respondents can be grouped into three clusters, namely Cluster 1 as many as 43 respondents (14.68%) with low understanding characteristics, Cluster 2 as many as 184 respondents (62.79%) with moderate understanding characteristics, and Cluster 3 as many as 66 respondents (22.53%) with high understanding characteristics. Based on these results, it appears that most respondents have a moderate understanding even though the average is still below the mean of total respondents. Thus, it is necessary to provide a systematic, comprehensive, and continuous understanding to develop human resources to form the mental and competence of students with quality and competitiveness of students and according to the needs of the world of work or users. For this reason, synergic cooperation with various related parties is needed.

Abstract

Islamic educational institutions face multidimensional managerial challenges driven by globalization and digital transformation. While previous studies have examined aspects such as leadership, curriculum, and quality assurance in isolation, a critical research gap remains regarding how these dimensions interact systemically and how modern management can be authentically integrated with Islamic ethical frameworks. This study aims to analyze these interconnected challenges and propose a holistic governance model. Employing a systematic literature review adhering to PRISMA guidelines, this study synthesized peer-reviewed literature published between 2020 and 2025. Data were analyzed using rigorous thematic content analysis, utilizing structured coding to identify systemic relationships and emerging patterns rather than isolated issues. The findings reveal that managerial challenges—encompassing leadership, human resources, curriculum, technology, finance, and quality assurance—are mutually reinforcing; notably, leadership effectiveness emerges as the foundational enabler that catalyzes improvements across all other institutional dimensions. The study’s novelty lies in conceptualizing the integration of contemporary management with Islamic principles—specifically amanah (trustworthiness), 'adl (justice), and shūrā (consultation)—not merely as normative ethical values, but as strategic governance mechanisms that drive participatory decision-making, equitable resource allocation, and transparent accountability. Ultimately, this study advances educational management discourse by providing an evidence-based, values-driven framework for sustainable institutional governance, offering policymakers and leaders a strategic roadmap to navigate modernization while preserving the distinctive ethical identity of Islamic education.

Abstract

Early reading proficiency is a foundational determinant of academic success, yet a substantial proportion of elementary students experience persistent difficulties in acquiring essential decoding and comprehension skills. This narrative review aims to synthesise the effectiveness of diverse pedagogical interventions for early reading difficulties and to construct an integrated concept map representing their interrelationships. Employing a systematic search across multiple academic databases, the review identified and analysed a substantial corpus of empirical studies published between 2019 and 2024. Thematic coding revealed six distinct clusters of intervention approaches: systematic phonics, multisensory structured literacy, balanced meaning-centred instruction, technology-mediated tools, metacognitive scaffolding, and tiered intervention frameworks. The findings demonstrate that no single approach is universally sufficient; rather, the most effective remediation combines explicit skill instruction with responsive, multi-component delivery within a tiered organisational structure. The resulting concept map serves as both a research reference and a practical planning tool for educators. This study contributes a unified visual framework that bridges fragmented evidence and supports evidence-based instructional decision-making in diverse elementary contexts.
