Abstract

ASEAN Member States (AMS) have a Policy Guideline on Digitalisation of ASEAN Micro Enterprises. It was compiled through an inclusive, multi-stakeholder process with support from the ASEAN Secretariat, known as the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ACCMSME). The Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) as well as representatives of the private sector in ASEAN participated. In 2020, at the 37th summit of the ASEAN countries, the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF) was adopted. Initiatives arising from these kinds of regional efforts have led to impressive achievements. As a result, Industry statistics estimate that the ASEAN region’s internet economy will exceed a gross market value of US$240b by 2025, more than twice that of US$72b in 2018. The ASEAN population is the most engaged mobile Internet users in the world. On the other hand, partly because of the convergence of low scores on the digital and entrepreneurship systems, Africa is precariously positioned on the Global Entrepreneurship Index Rank, the UNCTAD E-commerce Index Rank, and the Availability of venture capital scores. To succeed, the region has deliberately and seriously developed plans and programs, all along involving governments, global partners like OECD, and the private sector. The nodules in the network create a linkage that enhances accountability and responsibility such that none slackens in their efforts. The findings of this study, which has adopted exploratory research techniques, are that, first digitalization is no longer an option, but a necessity for economies and their MSMEs. Secondly, that well-developed infrastructure by way of broadband penetration by itself is not sufficient.

Abstract

Agate, as one of the many precious stones that are part of Indonesia's cultural heritage and natural resource wealth, offers significant potential to drive the creative economy through the creativity of its craftsmen. This potential is rooted in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and millions of people involved in all villages across Indonesia. However, in reality, the empowerment of MSMEs as creative industry players is not yet optimal. This research aims to examine how the potential for agate economic activities through MSME entrepreneurship can be optimized into a creative industry that contributes to Indonesia's macro economy. Additionally, it investigates the legal protection for agate MSME actors in Indonesia so far. The research method used is qualitative, exploring a deeper understanding of the phenomenon by considering personal experiences, direct observations, and analyzing relevant texts and literature. Thus, the data sources in this research include not only secondary data, such as scientific journal articles and book chapters but also field observations that have not previously been documented textually. The theories discussed encompass entrepreneurship, MSME empowerment, and product legal protection to enable Indonesia to achieve optimal macroeconomic growth based on microeconomics. The research results show that the potential for agate economic activities through MSME entrepreneurship still needs to be optimized. This can be achieved through the integration of regulation, working programs, and the involvement of all stakeholders, transforming MSMEs into a cohesive, modern, and integrated creative industry that significantly contributes to Indonesia's macro economy. Optimization is crucial to capture market opportunities both domestically and internationally, converting partially traditional MSMEs into a large-scale creative industry.

Abstract

The cafe industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly as part of the experience-based food and beverage sector centered on lifestyle and social interaction. These characteristics, while advantageous, simultaneously render the industry highly vulnerable to external disruptions, particularly regarding safety issues and business environment reputation. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the business recovery strategy and competitive advantage strengthening of Titik Temu Café following an operational crisis triggered by the collapse of a padel court roof in the Anwa Meruya area. Negative perceptions regarding environmental safety significantly impacted visitor numbers and daily revenue (declining by over 50%), despite the incident occurring outside the cafe premises. This research employs a mixed-method approach driven by a qualitative case study design, supported by quantitative strategic tools (QSPM). Data collection involved semi-structured interviews with internal parties, direct observation, and analysis of internal documents and media reports. Strategic management tools facilitated the analysis, including PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, VRIO, SWOT–TOWS, and the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). Results indicate that external environmental turbulence and increased consumer risk perception primarily influenced the business performance decline. The QSPM analysis further identifies Digital Recovery as the priority strategy. This study recommends crisis communication strategies and operational adjustments as short-term recovery steps, alongside utilizing customer experience-based digitalization as a long-term strategy to strengthen competitive advantage.

Abstract

The research investigates how PT Neyoki Lima Benua navigates strategic pressures in the customs brokerage and logistics sector in Indonesia, particularly the escalation of price competition and the fast pace of regulatory adjustments in import procedures. The study aims to clarify the company’s strategic orientation, assess its competitive position, and determine the extent to which its current practices reinforce long-term resilience. A qualitative method was applied through in-depth interviews, direct observation of operational activities, and a review of internal and external documents to capture the firm’s strategic posture. The distinct contribution of this work lies in its examination of a medium-scale logistics enterprise that integrates a full-service One-Stop Solution framework, an approach that receives limited attention in existing strategic management research within this industry. The analysis shows that the company employs a hybrid strategic model that balances cost efficiency with service differentiation, supported by a consolidation facility in China and a main office located close to Tanjung Priok Port. These conditions enhance operational effectiveness, elevate service precision, and reinforce the firm’s competitive stance. Several constraints remain, particularly the size of the workforce, the limited adoption of digital tools, and exposure to shifts in import regulations. The study highlights the need for systematic digital development, stronger collaborative networks, improved staff capabilities, and gradual expansion into new markets. Further studies may explore digital transformation in customs brokerage or conduct comparative reviews across similar firms to broaden the strategic implications.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are vital to global economic growth, particularly in Southeast Asia, and significantly contribute to GDP and employment creation. However, financial, human, and technological constraints often hinder their marketing capabilities. The accelerating pace of globalization, rapid digitalization, and post-COVID-19 market volatility demand adaptive and innovative marketing strategies. This study conducts a comprehensive synthesis of SME marketing strategies through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 protocol, drawing from Scopus, Web of Science, and Emerald Insight between 2020 and 2025. Keywords include market orientation, entrepreneurial marketing, branding, digital marketing, pricing, promotion, and distribution. From an initial 5,739 publications, 23 studies met the inclusion criteria and were thematically analyzed based on three research questions: conceptualization and implementation of market orientation, prevalent strategic marketing practices, and management of branding, pricing, communication, and distribution. Findings reveal SMEs increasingly adopt hybrid approaches that combine traditional methods with digital innovations such as social media, e-commerce, analytics, and customer relationship management (CRM). Integrating market orientation (MO) and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) enhances resilience and competitive advantage, while digital readiness and platform dependency persist. This review provides valuable insights for policymakers, academics, and SME practitioners to improve marketing practices and drive sustainable growth in a rapidly changing business environment. Future research should focus on expanding geographic diversity and exploring the long-term impact of digital tools and hybrid marketing strategies.

Abstract

The rapid development of the construction sector has increased the demand for building materials, creating opportunities as well as intense competition among retail businesses in this industry. Therefore, companies need to develop appropriate strategies to maintain their competitiveness and sustain business growth. This study aims to formulate an effective business development strategy for TB Karya Mandiri Jaya as a building materials retail business. Methodologically, this research employs a single-case qualitative study design, applying strategic management analysis tools, including Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE), External Factor Evaluation (EFE), SWOT Matrix, TOWS Matrix, and Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). The results of the analysis show that the company has relatively strong internal capabilities with an IFE score of 2.72 and a moderate response to external conditions with an EFE score of 2.36. The SWOT and TOWS analyses indicate several strategic alternatives that can be implemented to enhance competitiveness. Furthermore, the QSPM analysis identifies the most attractive strategy as the implementation of digitalization and the strengthening of internal management systems in order to expand market reach and improve operational efficiency. Unlike prior studies that predominantly rely on descriptive and subjective evaluations for small enterprises, this study contributes theoretically and practically by demonstrating how traditional physical and relational assets must be coupled with dynamic digital capabilities and quantitative strategy prioritization to achieve sustainable competitiveness.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the coffee shop industry in Indonesia has intensified competition among premium and local coffee brands. This study analyzes the strategic management practices of Starbucks Cempaka Putih, located in Central Jakarta, focusing on how the outlet sustains competitive advantage in a competitive coffee market. A qualitative field research approach was employed, combining direct observation, semi-structured interviews with store management and customers, and document analysis. The qualitative method was selected to provide in-depth insights into customer behavior and managerial practices that cannot be fully captured through quantitative approaches. Analytical tools including Porter’s Five Forces, PESTEL, SWOT, IFE/EFE matrices, and TOWS analysis were applied. Although QSPM is a commonly used strategic tool, it was not utilized in this study due to its complexity and limited relevance to the scope of this research. The findings indicate that Starbucks Cempaka Putih successfully implements a differentiation strategy anchored in the “third place” concept and a strong digital loyalty ecosystem (Starbucks Rewards). The SWOT analysis identifies key internal and external factors, while the TOWS analysis translates these findings into actionable strategies, demonstrating a clear linkage between analysis results and strategic recommendations. The IFE score of 2.79 and EFE score of 2.93 indicate strong internal capability and external responsiveness. The store generates approximately IDR 11–12 million in daily revenue with a team of 7 employees. Based on urgency and impact considerations, several strategic recommendations are proposed to enhance competitiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategic position and determine the most appropriate business strategy for PT Telkom Indonesia in facing the rapid development of the digital telecommunications industry. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach using strategic management tools, including the Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) matrix, External Factor Evaluation (EFE) matrix, SWOT analysis, and the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). The results show that Telkom has a robust internal condition with an IFE score of 3.53, supported by its extensive infrastructure, strong brand reputation, and integrated digital ecosystem. Meanwhile, the EFE score of 3.12 indicates that the company effectively leverages external opportunities, such as the increasing demand for digital services, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, despite facing intense competition and rapid technological shifts. The SWOT analysis suggests that Telkom is in a highly competitive position, enabling the pursuit of aggressive growth strategies alongside operational efficiency improvements. Based on the QSPM analysis, the "Restructuring and Efficiency Strategy" is identified as the most attractive option with a Total Attractiveness Score (TAS) of 7.27, slightly outperforming the "Integrated Digital Expansion Strategy" (TAS of 7.02). This study concludes that enhancing internal efficiency, organizational agility, and cost optimization should be the strategic priorities for Telkom to strengthen its competitiveness and sustain long-term growth in the digital era.

Abstract

National convenience store chain A faces intense retail competition, market saturation, and digital disruption that require a structured strategic response. This study aims to formulate a strategic priority for improving the operational efficiency, outlet productivity, and competitiveness of national convenience store chain A by applying the strategic management framework of David and David. Using a descriptive strategic analysis approach, this study employs the IFE, EFE, CPM, SWOT, and QSPM matrices. The input stage shows that national convenience store chain A has a strong internal position (IFE = 2.97) and an above-average response to external opportunities and threats (EFE = 2.99). The Competitive Profile Matrix indicates that national convenience store chain A remains highly competitive (3.82), although it is slightly below national convenience store chain B (3.92) and above national convenience store chain C (2.92) and international convenience store chain D (2.28).The SWOT matrix produces three feasible alternatives, while the QSPM identifies AS1 (accelerating omnichannel, loyalty, and digital store services) as the most attractive option with a TAS of 6.30, followed by AS3 (6.19) and AS2 (6.08). Therefore, national convenience store chain A should prioritize digital service acceleration and use its extensive physical network to strengthen customer experience, quick transactions, and sustainable retail productivity.
