Abstract

Reporting on digital mass media often vulgarly takes a position in favor of interests. Is the partiality direct, or is it in the form of framing? Television shows and newspaper reports have even become the public's 'breakfast'. The mass media is increasingly becoming a determinant of the cognitive menu of people's daily thoughts. And not a few are lulled into believing that it is the most true and authentic. This article directs attention to the role of social media as a digital public space for Indonesian people's cognition. By using Jurgen Habermas' theoretical frame on the public sphere, the author concludes that digital media plays a significant role in shaping the public's way of thinking which tends to be co-opted to political power and capital owners. This way of thinking then forms a mass culture that is prone to authoritarianism. The findings of this research also serve as a warning to stakeholders who must be more vigilant in anticipating the globalization of digital media which can actually change the face of political education and the future of our democracy.

Abstract

The recitation community and social media are alternative routes favored by young Muslims in studying religion. In contrast to recitation, which is carried out directly, this makes young Muslims tend to feel less effective in receiving da'wah material. One of the recitation communities that use social media and attract attention among young Muslims is the Fahruddin Faiz philosophy community at Jendral Sudirman Mosque, Yogyakarta. This study aims to explore how the community of young Muslims engages with Ustaz Fahruddin Faiz's Philosophy lectures through social media. The research data were obtained from interviews with several young Muslims who actively participated in Fahruddin Faiz's philosophical studies, both through social media and directly at the study locations. The research findings show that young Muslims feel more effective and efficient in participating in studies through social media than in person at the Jendral Sudirman Mosque. Several factors are the reasons why young Muslims tend to prefer studies through social media, such as: (1) young Muslims are used to interacting through social media; (2) video studies are packaged as attractively as possible so that young Muslims feel more comfortable in the process of receiving studies; (3) the time to listen to the study is flexible according to the time and opportunities for young Muslims.   Keywords: Muslim youth, social media, Fahruddin Faiz's philosophy study community

Abstract

The increasing number of floods every year brings a wide impact; the average loss caused by floods every year reaches 4.64T (Rp). Information about floods is very important to improve the preparedness of people living in disaster-prone areas. If information can be provided when people have a high interest in learning, it can have a profound effect on increasing public knowledge. To carry out effective risk communication in flood disasters, knowledge about flood disaster patterns is needed, as well as knowledge about community behavior in seeking information. One of the people's behavior in searching for information can be seen from the Google Trends analysis. The purposes of this study are to analyse the relationship between public interest in finding information through google trends with the keyword "flood" with flood events in Indonesia for 10 years. This research is a quantitative descriptive study by processing data obtained from Google Trends and BNPB flood event data using the Spearman Rank Correlation statistical test with SPSS software. The results showed that Google Trends with the keyword "Flood" and the pattern of flood events had a strong positive relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0.64, this indicates that the increase in the incidence of disasters causes an increase in public interest in seeking information about flood disasters. Risk communication that was carried out before the disaster occurred was not yet optimal in reaching the community. Risk communication needs to be carried out before the months that are predicted to be the peak of flood events. Risk communication is carried out to form the preparedness of the Indonesian people so that the risk of flood disasters can be reduced.
