Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of work motivation (X1), school culture (X2), and school literacy (X3) on the professional competence of elementary school principals (Y) in Bodeh District, Pemalang Regency. A quantitative causal approach was adopted using a questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The results show that work motivation, school culture, and school literacy each significantly influence principals’ professional competence, with respective contributions of 48.5%, 5.91%, and 42.0%. Simultaneously, the three variables explain 75.5% of the variance in principals’ professional competence. These findings indicate that strengthening work motivation, school culture, and school literacy is essential for enhancing the professional competence of school principals. The study provides practical implications for educational stakeholders, suggesting that principal development programs should focus on motivating school leaders, fostering collaborative school culture, and promoting literacy-based initiatives to support effective and innovative school leadership. Bodeh District, Pemalang Regency was chosen as the research location because it has a representative number of elementary schools and a diverse range of teacher and principal characteristics, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of work motivation, school culture, school literacy, and principals’ professional competence. In addition, the educational conditions in Bodeh District indicate a need for improving school leadership quality, making this study relevant for providing empirical insights useful for local education policy development.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the merdeka curriculum policy in relation to the implementation of student-centered learning (SCL) as a means of improving the quality of Islamic education. The study focuses on how problem-based learning (PBL), project-based learning (PjBL), and deep learning models can be integrated into the context of madrasahs and pesantren, while also examining their implications for cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies, the strengthening of Islamic character, and the development of 21st-century skills. The research method employed is a literature study using content analysis techniques. Data were collected from various academic sources, including books, journal articles, and relevant research findings. The analysis process involved selecting, categorizing, comparing, and synthesizing information from these sources to obtain a comprehensive picture of the merdeka curriculum implementation. The findings indicate that the merdeka curriculum provides a policy direction that supports student-centered learning through curriculum flexibility, diagnostic assessment, and the project for strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile. The application of SCL in Islamic education has proven effective in enhancing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills, while also deepening the internalization of Islamic values. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, such as teacher readiness, limited facilities, and the persistence of traditional learning cultures. In conclusion, the merdeka curriculum holds great potential to improve the quality of Islamic education, provided it is supported by teacher capacity building, adequate facilities, and comprehensive evaluation. With consistent implementation, Islamic education can produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also possess strong Islamic character and are well-prepared for the demands of the 21st century.

Abstract

The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT and Gemini, has transformed the way students acquire, verify, and interpret information in the learning process. However, the cognitive and epistemological dynamics of students interacting with AI remain underexplored. This study aims to: (1) analyze how students position AI as a learning assistant or a learning dependency; (2) investigate the verification strategies students use to assess the accuracy of AI outputs; (3) examine the impact of AI use on learning autonomy and Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) abilities; and (4) elucidate students’ ethical and epistemological reflections in assessing truth in the digital era. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological design, involving 10 students from the Islamic Education Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga who actively use generative AI in academic activities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings indicate that students fall along a spectrum of AI utilization, ranging from supportive learning use to cognitive dependency. Verification strategies vary as well, from rigorous literature-based verification to algorithmic trust, relying on the logic or academic appearance of AI responses. AI usage affects SRL differently: integrative use strengthens planning and reflection, whereas substitutive use leads to cognitive offloading, weakening learning autonomy. Furthermore, students’ ethical and epistemological reflections reveal differing levels of understanding regarding the probabilistic nature of knowledge generated by AI.

Abstract

The background of this research is based on the lack of culturally inclusive da'wah education in society, so that a da'wah model is needed that can reach the community, both socially and culturally and is carried out in a dialogue. Such as the one carried out at Sedulur Pembarep Creative Space (SPCS), Samiranan Village, Kandangan District. This research aims to examine the practice of culturally inclusive da'wah from an Islamic education perspective, analyze the impact of culturally inclusive da'wah practices in developing the character of tolerance in society, and understand the challenges of SPCS in developing culturally inclusive da'wah practices from an Islamic education perspective. This research uses a phenomenological approach. The type of research employed is field research using qualitative methods. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data sources consist of primary and secondary data. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was strengthened through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Research on culturally inclusive da'wah practices at SPCS is manifested in spiritual performing arts, cross-identity cultural discussions, and educational activities that combine Islamic educational values with local cultural symbols. The impacts of da'wah practices include increased public awareness of the importance of tolerance, strengthening social character, and creating a welcoming da'wah space for diversity. However, internal challenges include financial support, while external challenges include community misconceptions and limited human resources in managing technology and information.

Abstract

The background of this research is the importance of dressing according to Islamic law, not only as a religious obligation, but also as a form of self-protection to reduce the risk of harassment and sexual violence. Data from the National Commission on Violence Against Women shows that cases of sexual violence in Indonesia are still very high and a serious concern. Aqidah Akhlak Education has strategic potential in shaping students' character and awareness to protect themselves, particularly through the material on Dress Etiquette. This study aims to describe the strategies used by Aqidah Akhlak Teachers in preventing sexual violence at MAN Temanggung, as well as the obstacles and solutions faced. The research method used was qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that teachers implemented affective, expository, and cooperative learning strategies. In addition, collaboration with BK Teachers and parents is an important part of the prevention process. Obstacles faced are the cultural taboo of discussing sexual issues, minimal student awareness, and the influence of social media. These strategies are strengthened by the role of the school environment, enforcement of discipline, and communication with students' guardians.

Abstract

This study re-examines the foundations of Islamic educational management by proposing a governance model grounded in the Maqasid al-Shari‘ah and oriented towards the demands of twenty-first-century learning. While contemporary institutions face mounting pressures related to digitalisation, inclusivity, and accountability, many governance frameworks remain fragmented, technocratic, or disconnected from the holistic philosophy of Islamic education. This research adopts a qualitative design, integrating textual analysis of classical sources with thematic exploration of modern governance literature. The resulting framework identifies two core domains: the normative–ethical grounding and the structural–operational mechanisms of governance. The normative domain includes intentionality (niyyah), preservation of human dignity, and the cultivation of virtue as institutional ethos. The structural domain encompasses epistemic design, policy coherence, learner-centred systems, and adaptive leadership capable of responding to rapid socio-technological change. Findings reveal that a Maqasid-driven governance model offers a comprehensive scaffold for institutional transformation by linking ethical commitments with managerial functionality. Rather than treating Maqasid as merely theological ideals, the model reconceptualises them as strategic levers that can guide curriculum design, organisational culture, staff development, and accountability practices. The study argues that adopting this approach enhances institutional resilience, strengthens value-integration, and improves educational relevance in Muslim contexts navigating global shifts. This research contributes a theoretically grounded and operationally viable governance blueprint for Islamic educational institutions seeking to bridge classical wisdom with contemporary educational imperatives

Abstract

This studi discusses the phenomenom of the death of the expertise among teenagers by social media. Indonesia continues to experience an increase in internet usage from 62% in 2018 to 72.80% in 2024, with social media users reaching 50.2% of the total population (30% of these users are teenagers). This trend is an invaluable resource for marketers, business people, content developers, and anyone seeking to understand and harness Indonesia's digital potential. However, the ease of accessing information on social media, if not accompanied by a passion for understanding the truth, can lead to confirmation bias among teenagers. This occurs because expertise on social media is viewed skeptically and its presence is eclipsed by populism. A lack of critical thinking is one of the causes of the demise of expertise among teenagers. The flood of information on social media makes them unable to distinguish fact from fiction. The Quran, Surah An-Nahl, 16:43, teaches us the importance of a teacher/expert/specialist as a source of guidance for questions and doubts. By reasoning amidst low digital literacy, it is hoped that teenagers will be able to distinguish between fact and fiction, positive and negative

Abstract

This study examines how Islamic educational institutions can integrate religious values with global accreditation frameworks in order to strengthen their quality assurance systems. Drawing on qualitative analysis of policy documents, institutional reports, and expert perspectives, the research explores the ways in which international quality standards—such as governance structures, curriculum coherence, documentation systems, and continuous evaluation—can be aligned with the ethical and pedagogical traditions that characterise Islamic education. The findings reveal that many institutions are in a transitional phase: increasingly engaged with global benchmarks yet still negotiating how to articulate faith based commitments within technical accreditation instruments. Successful institutions tend to translate religious values into operational indicators, including managerial integrity, professional conduct among teachers, and a sustained culture of accountability. The study also identifies capacity building and leadership character as decisive factors in determining whether integration becomes substantive or merely symbolic. Ultimately, the research argues that combining global frameworks with religious values is not a competing agenda but a strategic and cultural necessity for Islamic educational institutions in the twenty first century. This integration allows institutions to enhance their credibility in international arenas while safeguarding their distinctive intellectual and spiritual heritag

Abstract

This study examines how Islamic educational institutions align their governance, policy frameworks, and leadership practices with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing particularly on institutional transformation and policy coherence. Using an interpretivist qualitative design, the research explores three contrasting Islamic educational settings—a pesantren-based higher education institution, a modern Islamic university, and an urban madrasah—to understand how global development principles are translated into locally grounded practices. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and observations of governance processes. The findings reveal that Islamic educational institutions possess strong ethical foundations that naturally support principles of sustainability, human dignity, and social responsibility. Alignment with the SDGs becomes effective when institutions reinterpret their core values within a global vocabulary rather than treating the SDGs as external obligations. Policy coherence emerges as a critical condition for meaningful progress, enabling institutions to move beyond fragmented initiatives toward integrated and strategic reform. Equally important is the presence of value-based leadership capable of balancing tradition with innovation, guiding institutions through cultural, administrative, and pedagogical transitions. Despite these strengths, challenges remain, including limited leadership capacity in some contexts, gaps in curriculum integration, and the need for improved monitoring systems. Nevertheless, the study concludes that Islamic educational institutions hold substantial potential to contribute to the SDGs through a governance approach that harmonises ethical heritage with contemporary developmental aims. Their engagement with the SDGs demonstrates how local educational traditions can enrich global aspirations for inclusive and sustainable education.
