Abstract

This article aims to explain the historical dynamics and evolution of Islamic thought from the classical to the modern phase, as well as show how the old intellectual heritage still works in today's Islamic reading. The method in this article is a literature review with a descriptive-critical approach to Indonesian journal articles in the last five years that discuss contemporary interpretation, modern Sufism, Islamic education reform, Ibn Khaldun's pragmatism, Nurcholish Madjid's secularization, and Gus Dur's post-secularism. The brief results of the study show, first, Islamic thought moved from a classical orientation that emphasized harmony between Sufism, fiqh, and morals to modernization that emphasized ijtihad, rationality, and educational reform. Second, contemporary thought expands the horizon to issues of gender, democracy, moderation, and religion-state relations. The novelty of this article is to read the evolution of Islamic thought as a continuation of the dialogue between tradition and renewal, not as a break from history.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the concept of Islamic renewal in Nurcholish Madjid’s thought and the relevance of his ideas in the modern era. This study is motivated by the emergence of various challenges of modernity that have led some people to believe that Islam is no longer capable of providing answers to increasingly complex life issues. Therefore, a renewal of Islamic thought is necessary so that Islamic teachings remain relevant and able to adapt to the times without abandoning the fundamental values of Islam itself. The method used in this article is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach, involving the analysis of various journals, books, and scholarly works that discuss Nurcholish Madjid’s thoughts on Islam, modernity, and the renewal of Islam. The research findings indicate that: (1) the concept of Islamic renewal according to Nurcholish Madjid emphasizes the importance of rationalization, ijtihad, openness to science and technology, as well as the rejection of blind imitation and rigid thinking that hinder the development of the Muslim community; (2) Nurcholish Madjid views Islam as a universal religion possessing modern, democratic, tolerant, and capable of adapting to social changes in modern society without being influenced by Westernization; and (3) the relevance of Nurcholish Madjid’s thought in the modern era is evident through his ideas regarding the relationship between Islam, modernity, and Indonesian identity, which can serve as a foundation for building a pluralistic, inclusive, moderate society that upholds humanistic values. The discussion in this article focuses on the concept of Islamic renewal in Nurcholish Madjid’s thought, which emphasizes the importance of liberating Muslims from rigid traditional mindsets toward a more rational, open, and progressive way of thinking. Nurcholish Madjid asserts that Islam must be able to serve as a source of moral and ethical values in modern life so that Islamic teachings can still be applied contextually in accordance with the times. The novelty of this article lies in its analysis of the relationship between Islamic renewal, modernity, and Indonesian values as an effort to build an Islamic society that is adaptive, tolerant, and oriented toward the advancement of civilization amidst the ever-evolving challenges of modernization.

Abstract

Drug use is a growing social problem and poses a significant threat to Indonesian society. Abuse of drugs not only affects the individual physically and mentally, but also impacts many aspects of life, such as family, friendships, sense of security, and societal norms. Furthermore, the surrounding environment can also lead people to experience drugs for the first time. The purpose of this article is to discuss the relationship between the social environment and drug cases and to illustrate its effects on people's lives. The approach used is library research, examining various books, scientific journals, laws, and official reports related to drugs. The results indicate that family discord, peer influence, and weak supervision are the strongest triggers for drug use. These effects include damaged family relationships, the emergence of psychological disorders, increased crime, impaired social regulation, and reduced work performance. So, it is clear that there must be cooperation from all parties, starting from families, schools, communities, and the government, to carry out prevention, rehabilitation, and social strengthening efforts so that we have a healthy, safe, and free environment from drug abuse.

Abstract

Character development in students is one of the main targets of elementary school education, emphasizing not only students’ thinking and intellectual abilities but also the expansion of attitudes and behaviors. Social Studies (IPS) learning plays a strategic role in this process because the material presented is directly related to students’ daily social lives. This article aims to analyze how daily activity-based social studies learning can be used as an effective means of character development for elementary school students. The method used is a reading list by reviewing various scientific publications and books. Observations reveal that the application of real-life activities, such as reciprocal cooperation, group discussions, social simulations, and habituation in the school environment, can foster personality qualities such as obedience, mutual cooperation, honesty, obligation, truthfulness, and collective awareness more optimally. This approach also promotes active student involvement in the learning process so that the values ​​learned are not only understood academically but also practiced in daily activities. Therefore, daily activity-based social studies lessons can be an effective strategy to support the strengthening of moral guidance in elementary schools.

Abstract

This article discusses how entrepreneurship education is increasingly important because schools are no longer only required to produce students who understand theory, but also individuals who are brave, independent, creative, and capable of solving problems in real situations. Various recent Indonesian journals show that entrepreneurship education is related to character strengthening and student independence, as well as promoting motivation, innovation, and readiness to face changes in the digital era (Bahri & Herliana, 2025; Rokhmawati et al., 2024; Supandi & Burhanudin, 2024). At the elementary and early childhood levels, programs such as Market Day and Business Day have also been proven as direct learning tools that teach responsibility, cooperation, courage to take risks, self-confidence, and creativity (Hudiya et al., 2023; Sari & Sholeh, 2024; Wulandari et al., 2024). At the vocational high school and Islamic high school levels, entrepreneurship education practiced through projects, production, and product marketing provides real experience that shapes entrepreneurial attitudes, not merely knowledge about business (Astrianingsih & Solihun, 2023; Fahmi & Ferdiansyah Asy'ari, 2023; Ayub et al., 2023). Therefore, entrepreneurship in education deserves to be viewed as a strategy for character formation and competitiveness of the younger generation.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the development of skillsentrepreneurship in an effort to promote the economic independence of the youth in an era of increasingly competitive global competition. The focus of the study is directed to the importance of entrepreneurial skills as the main provision for young people to create business opportunities, reduce unemployment levels, and enhance economic competitiveness. This article uses a literature study method (literature review) by examining various scientific sources such as books, research journals, and academic articles related to entrepreneurship, economic education, and human resource development. The results of the study show that (1) developing entrepreneurial skills through formal education, training, and mentoring programs plays an important role in shaping creative, innovative, and independent mindsets among the youth; and (2) the economic independence of the youth can be achieved if entrepreneurial skills are supported by access to capital, the use of digital technology, and a social environment that is conducive to business growth. In addition, entrepreneurial skills also have an impact on improving the youth’s ability to manage risk, make decisions, and create new jobs. The novelty of this article lies in the discussion that not only views entrepreneurship as an economic activity, but also as a process of character building, an independent mindset, and empowerment strategies for the youth in facing the ever-evolving challenges of the digital economy and globalization
