Abstract

In literary texts, various elements contribute to a writer's ability to convey a specific message or describe a particular situation. One such element is the use of adjectives, and this research focuses specifically on adjectives formed from participles, diverging from the commonplace adjectives encountered in everyday language. To facilitate this investigation, the novel "Sowieso und Überhaupt" by Christine Nöstlinger is employed as a primary source due to its rich utilization of participial adjectives. The primary objectives of this research are twofold: (1) to discern the forms of participial adjectives, determining whether they are inflected or not, and (2) to analyze the functions of these adjectives within sentences, shedding light on their attributive, applicative, or predicative roles. By accomplishing these goals, this research aims to enhance our comprehension of the nuanced meanings conveyed by participial adjectives in literary texts. This study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, initially classifying the gathered data into inflected and non-inflected categories. The analysis reveals that while some participial adjectives exhibit inflection, others can be employed without it, similar to standard adjectives. Consequently, this research yields two recommendations: first, a call to explore the functions of participial adjectives to deepen our understanding of their meanings, and second, an encouragement for further investigation into the variations of verbs influenced by adjectives with applicative functions.

Abstract

Predicate is an important particle to form a sentence in German language. Verb is a word which is designated to be the predicate in a sentence. The verb ‘machen’ is the German verb that has many meanings. It has various meanings which sometimes leads to confusion amongst the German learners. Moreover, it also affects the way a situation is described in a sentence. This study aims to: 1) find out the situation in a sentence which contains the verb ‘machen’ and 2) discover the meanings behind the verb ‘machen’ in various German articles. The data of this study is collected from a German online magazine, “Der Spiegel”. The method that the researcher used is descriptive qualitative. After every sentence that contains the verb ‘machen’ collected, classified, and analyzed, it can be said that the sentences with the verb ‘machen’ can be found in many more situation. This study concludes that there are 40 statement sentences and 10 questions which are found in 34 articles. There are 3 sentences that falls under the category of komplexe punktuelle Zustandsveränderung, 16 which is classified as inkrementelle Zustandsveränderung, and 21 which is counted as atelischer Ereignisbezug. The meanings of the verb ‘machen’ are cited from the online dictionary, “DUDEN”. There are 20 kind of meanings of the verb ‘machen’. Based on the study, most of the verb ‘machen’ which is found in the articles can be explained as “Etwas tun (to do something), unternehmen (to do); sich etwas (Bestimmen) beschäftigen (to occupy oneself with something)” with 21 sentences referring to it. On the other hand, the other meanings of the verb ‘machen’ are found in a more specific context.

Abstract

When learning German, there are four essential skills to master: Listening (Hören), Reading (Lesen), Speaking (Sprechen), and Writing (Schreiben). Each of these skills presents its own level of difficulty, with Speaking (Sprechen) often proving challenging to attain proficiency in. Consequently, the need for alternative, freely accessible learning resources to facilitate the learning process arises. One such valuable resource is www.learngerman.dw.com, which offers a unique feature of continuous speaking exercises alongside other skill exercises. This study aims to accomplish the following objectives: 1) Describe the types of Speaking (Sprechen) exercises available on the website www.learngerman.dw.com. 2) Outline the steps required to complete the Speaking (Sprechen) exercises found on the same website. 3) Evaluate the Speaking (Sprechen) exercises on www.learngerman.dw.com using the Kriterienkatalog fur Internet-Lernmaterial Deutsch als Fremdsprache. This research employs a descriptive analysis methodology to achieve its goals. The analysis of Sprechen exercises on the website is based on Schatz's theory. The findings indicate that 1) The website offers 411 vorbereitende Übungen and 97 aufbauend und strukturierend exercises, with simulierend exercises being unavailable. 2) The steps for completing the A1 Speaking (Sprechen) exercise on the website vary, but they all begin with watching a video. 3) The Speaking (Sprechen) exercises on www.learngerman.dw.com meet 13 out of 18 criteria outlined in the Kriterienkatalog fur Internet-Lernmaterial Deutsch als Fremdsprache, affirming its potential as an effective alternative learning resource for enhancing speaking skills.

Abstract

Textbooks are included in the supporting components in learning, therefore textbooks have a very important role in realizing education in accordance with the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies of the 2013 Curriculum in the 10th grade. Core Competencies and Basic Competencies in the 2013 Curriculum are a reference in making material and practice questions in textbooks, so that learning in schools is in accordance with the standards set by the government. However, not all textbooks are in accordance with the standards and needs of each level of learners. Research on  textbooks was conducted to determine the suitability of the content of the Netzwerk A1 Kursbuch textbooks with the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies of the 2013 Curriculum for class X. The textbook used as research material or the corpus in this research is the Kursbuch Netzwerk A1 book. The purpose of this study is to describe the suitability of the material in the Netzwerk A1 book with Core Competencies and Basic Competencies for 10th grade class and describe the suitability of practice questions in the Netzwerk A1 book with Core Competencies and Basic Competencies for 10th grade class. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis. The data analysis technique in this research is content analysis using documentation studies to collect data in the form of material and practice questions in the Kursbuch Netzwerk A1 book. After collecting the data, then the data is analyzed for compatibility with the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies of 10th grade class. The results of the analysis showed that the Kursbuch Netzwerk A1 book is not all in compatible with the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies of 10th grade class, because the scope of the Kursbuch Netzwerk A1 book is still too broad to be a supporter of learning for 10th grade students. Based on the data obtained, there are 71 materials with 21 data or 29.60% in accordance with 18 materials in 1st semester and 3 materials in 2nd semester relevant, 11 data or 15.50% less relevant and 39 data or 54.90% not relevant. Then the data obtained for practice questions as much as 429 with 66 data or 15.38% according to 48 practice questions in 1st semester and 18 practice questions in 2nd semester relevant, 30 data or 7.00% less relevant and 333 data or 77.62% not relevant.The results showed that the material and practice questions in the Kursbuch Netzwerk A1 book were not all or only a small part is compatible with the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies of 10th grade class because the book is a wider range of themes and materials, as well as the practice questions for 10th grade students.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the similarities and differences between the fairy tales Aschenputtel and Ande-Ande Lumut, one of which is the character and moral lesson. The moral messages contained in the fairy tales can be used as lessons for life. The purpose of this study is to describe the moral messages and the similarities and differences between the fairy tales. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method and an objective research approach with comparative literature method. The stages of data analysis in this research are collecting data that have similarities and differences, compiling data according to their types, and comparing them in tables, which are then described to draw conclusions based on the analyzed data. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that 1) The moral messages contained in Aschenputtel fairy tales are good and bad morals. 2) The moral messages contained in the Ande-Ande Lumut fairy tales are good and bad morals. 3) There are similarities and differences in characterization in both fairy tales. At the same time, there is a moral lesson in both fairy tales, namely the value of morality with oneself, with fellow human beings and with God. The difference in moral lesson lies in the value of morality towards nature. Based on the research results, analysis that the two fairy tales have differences in the intercultural aspects.
