Abstract

This study compares the news coverage of the train accident at East Bekasi Station published by Beritasatu.com and MetroTVNews.com using Robert Entman's framing analysis model. The study employs four elements of Entman's framing approach: (1) problem definition, (2) causal interpretation, (3) moral evaluation, and (4) treatment recommendation. The findings reveal significant differences in the construction of reality regarding the train accident incident. Although both media outlets reported the same event, their differing perspectives resulted in distinct emphases on particular issues. Beritasatu.com and MetroTVNews.com framed the event in ways that reflected their respective editorial approaches and priorities. The implications of these framing differences underscore the importance of media literacy among the public. Audiences need to develop the ability to critically analyze and interpret news content in order to understand how media framing influences public perception and shapes social reality.

Abstract

Social media has shifted from a space for public interaction to an algorithm-driven content distribution platform. This article examines how changes in platform design have transformed users’ interpersonal communication practices. It adopts a conceptual approach through a synthesis of industry reports and studies on short-form videos, algorithms, and digital communication. The synthesis identifies three major shifts. First, users have moved from being both content producers and consumers to primarily becoming audiences, while interpersonal interaction has migrated to private spaces such as direct messages and group chats. Second, information distribution is increasingly shaped by algorithmic recommendation systems rather than social networks. Third, trust in information is increasingly built through emotional engagement with audiovisual content. These findings suggest that social media remains social, but the location, form, and mechanisms of social interaction have fundamentally changed.

Abstract

This study examines the extent to which content posted on the Instagram account @deswitasaripandansari fosters tourists’ intention to visit attractions in Pandansari Village. Using a quantitative explanatory survey of 93 followers (Slovin formula, 10% margin of error), Instagram content (X) was measured via photographs, captions, hashtags, and posting frequency, while visit intention (Y) followed the AIDA model. Results show a statistically significant positive relationship (sig. = 0.009 < 0.05; B = 0.188), yet the variable explains only 7.3% of the variance (R²) in visit intention, indicating that destination image, e-WOM, information clarity, and travel experience play a larger role. The study reinforces the relevance of the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework in social-media-driven rural tourism and recommends integrating Instagram content strategy with destination-image building and testimonial management.

Abstract

Participatory election oversight is an effort to ensure fair, honest, and democratic elections. This study aims to describe the public communication strategy implemented by the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of Brebes Regency in promoting participatory election oversight during the 2024 General Election. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving four purposively selected informants. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while validity was ensured through triangulation. The findings show that Bawaslu Brebes Regency has implemented Harold D. Lasswell's Communication Model, consisting of Who, Says What, In Which Channel, To Whom, and With What Effect. The strategy was carried out through social media, the official website, PPID, JDIH, face-to-face socialization, community forums, and collaboration with various stakeholders to support participatory election oversight. The strategy has increased public knowledge, awareness, and participation in election oversight. However, challenges remain, including differences in political literacy, disparities in digital literacy, limited resources, and the public's limited understanding of procedures for reporting alleged election violations.
