Abstract

The Indonesian nation conserves many ancient manuscripts. The ancient manuscripts are spread out throughout Indonesia’s archipelago, even though the total numbers of the ancient manuscripts in each area are not the same. The ancient manuscripts may be treated as documents of a nation, due to the fact that the documents may be referred to as writings containing pertinent information.. Nowadays the teaching of history by utilizing ancient manuscripts are rarely conducted by teachers. However, it is necessary to have the efforts in comprehending the ancient manuscripts that any information of the past  be passed to the current and future generations. The teaching of history based on scarce resources presents certain challenges to the teacher. In this country, history has been one of the core subjects in the curriculum, since elementary school, which leads to the question whether the teaching of history has been well operated? In fact, the teaching of history in many schools is merely the transferring the teacher’s knowledge to the students in class through one-way communications. The students have become passive objects that have the duties to memorize notes given by the teacher in order to respond to the questions that will be examined. This type of history teaching method has caused the history subject uninteresting. A successful method of teaching history shall be by constructing a ‘historical memory’ along with an ‘emotional memory’. The study of ancient manuscript on history teaching is one of the many methods that can instigate “emotional memory”. After students are provided with facts of history to construct “historical memory” in class, the emotional memory can be delved due to the study of ancient history. Various alternative methods in relation to the modification of history teaching are necessary to be developed. One of the methods that can be implemented is the capitalization of ancient manuscript for the History teaching, particularly for the development of the Nation’s Culture and Character.

Abstract

This paper endeavours to see the nature of Indonesian decentralisation and regional autonomy more on the basis of micro level perspective. While most of the previous studies have relied heavily on macro level perspective, such as—assessing how central government has initiated the idea of decentralisation and regional autonomy, investigating the extent to which power has been distributed to the regions, and exploring central government’s controls over the regions—the material presented in this paper has been focussed more on exploring how local state elites themselves have seen decentralisation and regional autonomy. Based on a series of primary data collected in four research locations (the province of West Java, West Sumatra, West Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara/NTT), the author has subsequently ended up with a proposition which says that: the puzzle of contemporary Indonesia’s regional autonomy policy must be understood on the basis of so called local state elites ambivalence orientation towards decentralisation and regional autonomy policies. The research findings suggested that local state elites had officially manipulated that of ambivalence orientation as the stated justification for their misconduct behaviour in implementing decentralisation and regional autonomy policies. Eventually, the author argues, amongst the distinctive contribution of this paper to the academic development is that it share the work of those who have endeavoured to conceptualise the characteristics of decentralisation and regional autonomy in an epoch the so called “transition towards democracy”.

Abstract

Malay language is stipulated in the Law Article 152 as the national and official language of Malaysia. Therefore, literature using Malay language as the medium is adopted as the archipelago literature (Mohd. Taib Osman, 1971; Ismail Hussein, 1971). Considering that Malay language is understood by diverse ethnics, it can be concluded that the language holds an important role in developing understanding among people in Malaysia. The literature that grows and develops in the heart of a nation is the best foundation for building a united/integrated nation. Literary works have long contributed towards the culture and the civilization of a nation so that they become a part of the features and characteristics of a nation. Literary works are the encyclopedia of ideology, values, and cultures of all the people in Malaysia who give support towards the archipelago literature.

Abstract

This article explains about the history of Boven Digoel Camp in its correlation with the formation of nation’s character. From 1927 to 1930s, colonial government had been exiling politic internees there. The aims is to control their thought and attitudes towards the government. During the exile, there were two diverse characters found, as the result, there were two groups of internees found, there who change their attitudes toward the governement and those who were consistent with their political attitudes. The change was very pragmatic; it was done in order to survive in the camps and with expectation to return to their hometowns safety. However, camp life had formed solidarity and diversity spirit among the internees who came from diverse region, ethnic, language and religion. Personal, ethnical, and political view point were gradually squeezed at one place. The ideal to be a nation was increasingly strengthened particularly when they were confronted to the discriminative policies of colonial administration. These various experiences were worthy lessons for us to reflect the transformation process of our nation, Indonesia which had scarcely and expensively paid by the internees which can serve as a source of curriculum content of historical education.

Abstract

To establish a qualified history teaching-learning equipped with a good constructivistic nuance requires teachers’ knowledge towards teaching-learning process. Besides comprehending subject matter, chosen teaching model, classroom management, and teaching media, teachers also need to comprehend scaffolding. Teachers’ knowledge towards the importance of scaffolding in history teaching in senior high school level is an important thing to get a good history teaching quality. The scaffolding implementation model in history teaching was the aim of the research. The development towards the metacognitively-oriented scaffolding implementation model in this study was conducted using teacher questionnaire analyzed through SmartPLS. The hipotetical model proposed on the first phase was confirmed by teachers’ response data that generated theoretical model. The next analytical model was then developed through model optimizing phase.Findings of the study show that the optimal model was the suittest scaffolding implementation model in metacognitively-oriented history teaching. Based on the optimal model, the changes on metacognitive construct can be explained by 63.2% of students’ activity construct. The changes on students’ activity construct can be defined by 73.9% of the scaffolding implementation construct. The changes on scaffolding implementation construct can be defined by 46.69% of the scaffolding development effort construct and by 41.8% of scaffolding comprehension construct. The improvement of teachers’ ability in the context of scaffolding was suggested to be one of important considerartions in the implementation of scaffolding in metacognitively-oriented history teaching in the classroom.

Abstract

The Indonesian people still keep old manuscripts in considerable amounts. The distribution of ancient manuscripts is found in almost all regions of the Indonesian archipelago, although the amount of ancient manuscripts in each region is not the same. Teaching history in schools is more than transferring teachers’ knowledge to students in the classroom through one-way communication. Pupils just become passive objects that must memorize the teacher’s notes in order to answer the questions that will be tested. This kind of teaching history method has made history a boring lesson. As for to make history teaching successful, the method used should be constructed “historical memory” accompanied by “emotional memories.” The study of ancient texts in teaching history can be regarded as one of the methods that can lead to “emotional memories.” After students are given the facts of history to construct “historical memory” in the classroom, emotional memory can be explored by studying the ancient texts. Several alternative methods with the modification of history teaching need to be developed. One method that researcher through think could be applied is the utilization of the ancient manuscript to the teaching of history, particularly for the development of Culture and National Character
