Abstract

Community Service Activities constitute one of the core implementations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, aiming to provide tangible contributions to society through academic expertise and spiritual service. The background of this activity is the limited understanding among church congregations regarding the importance of missionary zeal in ecclesial life, particularly in remote areas such as Ketungau Hulu Utara. In response to this condition, Khatulistiwa Sintang Theological Seminary conducted a community service program in six local congregations of the Gereja Persekutuan Sidang Kristus (GPSK) from March 28 to April 6, 2025. The program employed a participatory and contextual approach, implemented through several forms of ministry, including Revival Worship Services, Christian Family Seminars, Sunday Worship Services, and household visitations. The objectives of this activity were to rekindle missionary enthusiasm among local congregations, strengthen the spiritual life of Christian families, and encourage active participation of young people in ministry and theological education. The results of the program indicate a positive response from the congregations, as reflected in their high level of enthusiasm during the activities, openness in discussions, and the emergence of interest among several young participants to pursue theological studies. In conclusion, this community service activity successfully contributed to enhancing missionary awareness among church members and strengthening collaborative relationships between Khatulistiwa Sintang Theological Seminary and the GPSK churches at both synodical and local levels in the Ketungau Hulu Utara region of West Kalimantan.

Abstract

Globalization has intensified cross-cultural interactions, demanding contextual and adaptive mission approaches that transcend conventional methods. This community service (PkM) study examines the role of music as a cross-cultural mission medium in STT Kristus Alfa Omega's community service activities across Daegu, Busan, and Jinju, South Korea. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. Findings reveal that music significantly enhanced participant engagement, fostered more inclusive cross-cultural interactions, and generated positive emotional and social responses toward the Gospel message. The adaptation of local musical elements combined with bilingual performance strategies strengthened community acceptance and deepened relational trust across cultural boundaries. Furthermore, music functioned not merely as a communicative medium, but as a strategic missiological instrument for building intercultural relationships, increasing community participation, and facilitating the internalization of spiritual values. These findings affirm that a contextual, music-based community service model holds substantial potential for replication across diverse multicultural contexts, contributing meaningfully to the development of contextual missiology in East Asia. Keywords: cross-cultural mission; contextual missiology; music as mission medium; community engagement; intercultural spirituality Abstrak Globalisasi telah mengintensifkan interaksi lintas budaya, menuntut pendekatan misi yang kontekstual dan adaptif melampaui metode konvensional. Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to strengthen the Christian identity of students at the Batam Institute of Technology (ITEBA) through a contextual seminar model based on an understanding of Christology and Soteriology. The background to this activity is the challenges of the digital era and globalization that influence the formation of Christian student identity, especially in the technology college environment. Therefore, this PkM activity is considered important by the Doctoral Study Program of STT REAL Batam. The goal is for Christian students to maintain a correct understanding of the foundations of Christology and Soteriology. The method used is a participatory contextual seminar with an educational-transformational approach, involving 40 Christian students at ITEBA. The implementation stages include needs analysis, module development, three seminar sessions, and evaluation through pre-tests, post-tests, spiritual motivation questionnaires, and qualitative reflections. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' theological understanding based on a comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. In addition, participant reflections indicated an increased integrative awareness between faith and academic life and a commitment to living out Christian identity in the context of technology and social service. Therefore, this contextual seminar model has proven effective as a strategy for fostering Christian identity in students at technology universities and has the potential to be replicated in similar contexts. This activity recommends that ITEBA integrate contextual faith development into its ongoing student character development program. Keywords: Christian identity; christology; soteriology; contextual seminar; technology college Abstrak Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat identitas Kristiani mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Batam (ITEBA) melalui model seminar kontekstual berbasis pemahaman Kristologi dan Soteriologi. Abstract

This article reports a qualitative study employing participatory and theologically reflective approaches to examine the Community Engagement Program conducted by the Undergraduate Theology Program of Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Real Batam in Pulau Buluh, Batam, Indonesia. Conducted on August 29, 2024, the program combined a coastal clean-up campaign and community education in collaboration with Free the Sea, local leaders, and residents. Drawing on field observation, participatory dialogue, and theological reflection, the study argues that grassroots ecological action constitutes an embodied and contextual enactment of the cultural mandate (mandatum culturae). The findings suggest that such action cultivates ecological awareness while reflecting a Pentecostal/charismatic missiological sensibility that integrates creationcare with the Church’s spiritual and social mission. The study concludes that environmental stewardship is an integral expression of Christian faith and mission and that theological institutions can translate ecological convictions into participatory, community-based practices of creation stewardship.

Abstract

The hydrometeorological disasters that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since late 2025 caused extensive impacts on the physical and psychological health of affected populations, particularly in communities with limited geographic accessibility. This condition demands an intervention model oriented not only toward physical recovery but also toward psychosocial strengthening and social capital reinforcement. This article aims to analyze the implementation of the Mission Care program as a community service model that integrates medical services and psychosocial support for isolated post-disaster communities. The activity was conducted over twelve days, from 19 to 30 January 2026, by a multidisciplinary team of twenty-four personnel, including lecturers, medical staff, students, and volunteers, resulting from collaboration between Real Care, Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Real Batam, and GBI Rayon Misi 20. The activity sites included Punke and Kala Wih Ilang villages in Aceh, the Sibolga area in North Sumatra, and affected regions in West Sumatra. The approach combined free medical treatment, distribution of basic needs assistance, and psychosocial accompaniment implemented simultaneously. Results indicate that integrating these two service types accelerated the recovery of basic health access while strengthening social capital and adaptive capacity among communities difficult to reach by formal aid. This article contributes to the evidence base on isolated community empowerment models built on collaboration between higher education institutions, religious organizations, and humanitarian bodies in Indonesia.
