Abstract

Poetry has been an integral part of literary heritage since ancient times. Over time, the objectives of poetry have expanded, covering various themes. This research focuses on the work of Imam Syafi’I, a renowned poet known for his poems during the Abbasid era. The study specifically delves into one of Imam al-Syafi’I’s poems that discusses knowledge, titled “Lantanᾱl al-‘Ilma Illa Bisittah.” The research methodology employed is a literature review, encompassing the search, collection, and analysis of data sources such as books and theses. The qualitative descriptive data used in the research involve the selection, analysis, and classification of poetic elements related to Imam Syafi’I’s poems. The findings reveal that Imam Syafi’I’s poem “Lantanᾱl al-‘Ilma Illa Bisittah” contains elements of ‘Ātifah (emotion), evident in verse “أخــي لــنْ تـــنالَ العـــلـمَ إلاَّ بــتَّةِ” which employs poetic language to evoke emotion and enhance the emotional appeal for the reader. Al-Fikrah (Idea) is present in verses such as ‘’ ذكاءٌ، وحِــــرْصٌ، واجتــهـادٌ، درهم، وصُحــبة وأستــــــــــــاذِ، طـول زمـان” demonstrating a dimension of thought in conveying literary messages, considered a distinctive feature of al-fikrah. Sūrah (Form/Language Style) plays a crucial role in shaping the poem’s essence, focusing on knowledge and enriching the meaning of the poem, allowing for easier identification and enjoyment of its literary elements. However, the element of al-khᾱyal (imagination) is not present in Imam al-Syᾱfi’I’s poem, as it lacks imaginative content. The research identifies the absence of al-khᾱyal as a distinctive feature of the poem “Lantanᾱl al-‘Ilma Illa Bisittah.”

Abstract

This study examines the issue of polysemy (musytarak al-lafzy) through semantic analysis. The researcher focuses on the polysemy of the word akhadha (أخذ) in the Qur'an, specifically in Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Al-Imran. The data used are verses from the Qur'an that contain polysemic occurrences of the word akhadha (أخذ). The study explores the forms of polysemy of the word akhadha (أخذ) and its meanings by sampling the word through dictionaries, Qur'anic interpretations, and tafsir books by prominent scholars. The research method applied is qualitative library research using a descriptive approach. The study found 34 occurrences of the word akhadha (أخذ) in various forms—fi'il madhi (past tense), fi'il mudare (present/future tense), fi'il amr (imperative), and isim (noun). In Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Al-Imran, 27 instances of akhadha (أخذ) were identified as polysemic. The literal meaning of akhadha (أخذ) is "to take," but the research revealed other meanings such as "to accept," "to make," "to seize," "to acknowledge," "to comply," "to appoint," "to declare," "to choose," "to act," "to punish," "to implement," "to establish," "to adhere to," "to raise," "to enforce," "to recognize," "to worship," "to display arrogance," "to misuse," "to bear responsibility," "to hold accountable," "to torture," "to impose," and "to determine." Thus, the Qur'an contains polysemic words, but their meanings are not entirely identical. Upon deeper examination, polysemic words exhibit specific characteristics in their meanings, depending on the context of the verse and sentence in which they appear.

Abstract

Al-Amr in the Qur'an Surah aṣ-Ṣāffāt (An Analytical Study in the Science of Meanings) (Supervised by H. Muh. Iqbal Hasanuddin and Aksa Muhammad Nawawi). In the context of the Qur'an, al-amr refers to the form of a verb or phrase that indicates a command or instruction given by Allah to His servants. This command can be an obligation, prohibition, or recommendation that Muslims must follow. This study discusses al-amr in the Qur'an, specifically in surah aṣ-Ṣāffāt, by examining two main issues: the forms of al-amr and the meanings of al-amr in surah aṣ-Ṣāffāt. The aim is to identify the forms of al-amr and understand their meanings in surah aṣ-Ṣāffāt. The research method used is a library study, encompassing the search, classification, and analysis of data sources such as the Qur'an, books, and theses related to al-amr in surah aṣ-Ṣāffāt, which are then analyzed using the science of meanings (ʻIlm al-Maʻānῑ). The research results show that in surah aṣ-Ṣāffāt there are two ṣigah or forms of al-amr, namely fi‘il amr (imperative verb) and fi‘il mudāri (present tense verb) that begins with lam amr (lam of command). Seventeen words in the form of fi‘il amr and one word in the form of fi‘il mudāri were found. The meanings of al-amr found in this surah are divided into two main categories: The literal meaning found in verses 11, 18, 22, 23, 24, 73, 149, 157, 174, 175, 178, and 179, indicating a direct command without additional interpretation. The rhetorical meaning is divided into three: the meaning of guidance (irsyad) in verses 61 and 102, the meaning of request (iltimas) in verse 97, and the meaning of supplication (do‘a) in verse 100.

Abstract

This research discusses the Creation Process of Prophet Adam a.s. and Prophet Isa a.s. in the Qur'an, examining two main issues: the creation process of Prophet Adam a.s. and Prophet Isa a.s. as described in the Qur'an, and the semiotic meaning of the creation of Prophet Adam a.s. and Prophet Isa a.s. as described in the Qur'an. This research is a descriptive study that describes the creation process of Prophet Adam a.s. and Prophet Isa a.s. in the Qur'an using a semiotic-linguistic approach from Ferdinand de Saussure's perspective, employing the method of signifier and signified. Data collection techniques include literature review, relevant literature, and various references. The results of this study show that the creation of Prophet Adam a.s. and Prophet Isa a.s. is unique. Prophet Adam a.s. was created without the intermediary of a father and mother; he was created from clay shaped perfectly, then a soul was breathed into him by Allah SWT, making him a living human. As for Prophet Isa a.s., he was created by Allah SWT without a father, through the intermediary of the angel Gabriel, who blew a soul into Mary's womb, and she conceived and then gave birth to Isa a.s. In semiotic analysis, the signifier and signified related to the creation process of these two Prophets in the Qur'an, such as turābin meaning clay, al-insana meaning human, gulāman zakiyyan meaning a pure boy, kun fayakun meaning be, and it is.
