Abstract

This study focuses on the semiotic analysis of the lyrics of the song ‘Ala Nahjik Masyaīt, including the meaning of the lyrics, the analysis of signifiers and signifieds, and the underlying meanings. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, analyzing the lyrics of the song ‘Ala Nahjik Masyaīt through text observation. The collected data are then analyzed, interpreted, and explained using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic perspective, which states that a sign consists of two interrelated components: the signifier and the signified. The results of the study indicate that the lyrics of the song ‘Ala Nahjik Masyaīt revolve around the spiritual journey of the songwriter (Ajlan Thabet) who wishes to follow the footsteps and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Furthermore, the semiotic analysis of the meaning of the lyrics 'Ala Nahjik Masyāit identifies the signifiers and signifieds as follows: pass by, ask, resemble, with shame, make, inspire, follow you, step, my light, emulate, follow you, rise, ignore, remain, feel, suffer, desire, your guidance, and face. The semiotic meanings of these signifiers and signifieds illustrate Ajlan Thabet's sacrifice, willingness to suffer, and face challenges in order to follow the Prophet. This includes seeking happiness and tranquility in faith, and facing various trials and mistakes with patience.

Abstract

The recitation of the Barzanji book is not a tradition that must be performed by Muslims, nor is it a ritual that must be observed every Prophet’s birthday. The purpose of reciting the Barzanji book is merely to derive wisdom and enhance the love of Muslims for their Prophet, making him a role model in their daily lives. The researcher was intrigued to explore the extent to which the tone or intonation of the Barzanji recitation, particularly in Madḥ An-Nabīy, affects its listeners. Thus, the researcher conducted a study entitled "Intonation of Madḥ An-Nabīy Recitation in the Maulid Barzanji Book by H. Sudirman Semma' (A Phonemic Analysis)." To collect information, this study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using phonemic analysis and interviews. The researcher applied an interactive data analysis model as described by Miles and Huberman. The theoretical framework used was the maqam theory popularized by Safiyuddin al-Urmawi. The findings of this study concluded that the use of maqam influences the understanding and experience of listeners. Maqam Bayātī conveys a soothing tone, Maqam Rāst presents a strong and majestic tone, while Maqam Sīkāh offers a soft and touching tone. The appropriate use of maqam in Barzanji recitation is crucial to effectively convey the meaning of Madḥ An-Nabīy, highlighting the need for education and training on maqam and text to achieve optimal results.

Abstract

The inherently philosophical and convoluted nature of traditional nahẉ materials has led many modern nahẉ scholars to seek their reform. Among those who have made significant contributions to the development of modern nahẉ is Syauqi Ḍaif. This study, entitled “Syauqi Ḍaif (A Study of His Role in the Renewal of Nahẉ Science),” addresses two research questions: What criticisms have nahẉ scholars leveled against Syauqi Ḍaif in the field of nahẉ, and what role has he played in reforming nahẉ science? The method employed is library research with a qualitative approach. Data sources for this study include the books Tajdīd Nahwī and Taysīr an‑Nahwī at‑Taʻlīmī Qadīman wa Ḥadīthan maʻa Nahji Tajdīdihā, as well as other documents relevant to the research. The results of the study indicate that Syauqi Ḍaif authored six books on nahẉ, all of which generally treat nahẉ as an exclusive domain of the Arabic language. Furthermore, six main themes emerge from his efforts to renew nahẉ materials: reformulation, elimination, addition, and others, all aimed at making nahẉ more accessible so that beginner students of Arabic do not find it overly difficult.

Abstract

Literary works are the product of an individual’s creativity created for enjoyment; each author has their own way of expressing ideas and depicting them through a distinctive linguistic style. The stylistic devices found in the prose The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran serve to help analyze and give a complete picture of the value and meaning of each sentence in that prose. These include comparative figures of speech (association, personification, anthropomorphism, metaphor, periphrasis), contrasting devices (hyperbole, irony, sarcasm), and emphatic devices (climax, rhetorical question). This study is classified as library research. The data‑collection technique began with repeatedly reading the prose under study, comprehending its content, finding books related to the research topic for reference, selecting several prose passages from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, and analyzing each sentence containing a stylistic device using a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study on the use of stylistic devices in Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet reveal ten different types of figures of speech, organized into three categories: comparison, contrast, and emphasis. The distribution is as follows: association in 21 sentences; personification in 40 sentences; anthropomorphism in 4 sentences; metaphor in 2 sentences; periphrasis in 2 sentences; hyperbole in 3 sentences; sarcasm in 1 sentence; irony in 1 sentence; climax in 2 sentences; and rhetorical question in 6 sentences. The most frequently used device in The Prophet is personification, appearing in 40 sentences.

Abstract

The discipline of literary science emerged when scholars began questioning the very nature of literary works, and it developed only after those works were created to be enjoyed aesthetically; each author employs a unique style to express ideas and convey the meanings and concepts held in their mind. This study uses a library‑research method, beginning with repeated readings of the selected texts to grasp their content fully, supplemented by relevant secondary sources. It focuses on the Arabic poems of Imam al‑Shafiʿi, compiled into a single volume around the themes of death, divinity, and the pursuit of knowledge, which are classical in form and rich in moral counsel and wisdom. Selected poems were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively to identify their defining literary elements. The analysis concludes that Imam al‑Shafiʿi’s poetry is characterized by four key affective qualities: authenticity of feeling (Shidq al‑Shidq al‑ʿAṭīfah), where emotions arise genuinely; intensity of feeling (Quwwah al‑ʿAṭīfah), a calm yet powerful emotional presence; variety of feeling (Tanawwuʿ al‑ʿAṭīfah), the ability to evoke diverse emotions such as love, enthusiasm, admiration, sympathy, and pride; and perseverance of feeling (Thabāt al‑ʿAṭīfah), the sustained emotional tone that ensures lasting impact. These qualities deepen readers’ appreciation of the poems and underscore their enduring literary value.

Abstract

This thesis examines “An Analysis of the Story of Prophet Abraham (ʿIbrāhīm) and Prophet Ishmael (Isḥāq) in the Qur’an.” The core focus is on the narrative of Abraham’s and his son Ishmael’s sacrifice (qurbān), as well as the symbolic meanings embedded in their story in QS As‑Ṣaffāt 102. This study is a library research (library research), meaning it reviews and describes the symbolic significance drawn from the Qur’anic account of Allah’s command to Abraham to sacrifice Ismael. The researcher employs a semantic approach to analyze the issues under investigation. Data collection was carried out through documentation and literature review, tracing and gathering relevant scholarly sources related to the study’s title. In data analysis, the researcher uses a library research method. The findings reveal the narrative of Abraham’s struggle and his son Ishmael’s devotion: Abraham was commanded by Allah to sacrifice his beloved and only son, Ishmael. Ishmael’s sincere submission to Allah’s command and his obedience to his father Abraham are highlighted. The study also uncovers the symbolic meaning in QS As‑Ṣaffāt 102: Abraham dreams of sacrificing his son, conveys this vision to Ishmael, and Ishmael, with patience and faith, urges his father to fulfill the divine command. From this story, it is derived that on the Feast of Sacrifice (ʿId al‑Adḥā), Muslims who are able commemorate the event by offering qurbān, such as camels, cattle, or goats, in emulation of Abraham’s and Ishmael’s example.

Abstract

This study describes and compares the semantic content of the novels Kelana Cinta Shafiyya and Layla Majnun using a library‑research approach. In Kelana Cinta Shafiyya, analysis of its literary elements revealed themes of social empathy, as illustrated by Shafiyyah’s concern for both humans and non‑human creatures; deep affection, embodied in the compassionate portrayal of Bunda Shafiyyah; and the value of friendship, evidenced by dialogues depicting the bond between two girls. In Layla Majnun, the researcher identified expressions of hope in Layla’s reflections on her beloved; profound sadness experienced by both Layla and Majnun when their emotional trials intensify; and pervasive disappointment, manifested in Layla’s descent into daily sorrow and depression. These findings illuminate how each novel employs distinct affective meanings to engage readers and convey its core messages.
