Abstract

The environmental pollution can reduce subjective well-being.Thus study aims to prove the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis in high and middle income countries in Asia, also to analyze the differences in the effect of GDP per capita, energy consumption, and population on CO2 emissions in the same region before and after the MDGs. Data obtained from the World Bank for the period 1987-2014, where the analysis uses quantitative methods and expose facto, and through panel data regression equations to achieve research objectives. The results show that until 2014 the EKC hypothesis in the form of U-reversal has not occurred in the high income countries studied, but will occur when GDP per capita has reached USD 51.44 thousand. Whereas in the lower middle income countries, the pattern of the relationship between GDP per capita and CO2 emissions still forms a U curve, or in other words the ECC hypothesis will not occur in these countries, because in some countries it is still in the early stages of development. The results also showed that prior to the MDGs (2000), GDP per capita, energy consumption and population in high income countries contributed to the increase in CO2 emissions, but after the MDGs, rising GDP per capita was able to reduce CO2 emissions. Whereas in low middle income countries, at the beginning of the study before the MDGs, the data showed that CO2 was already high at a time when GDP per capita was still low, and after MDGs, increases in GDP per capita still contributed to rising CO2 emissions.

Abstract

It has widely recognized how Public Private Partnership (PPP) contributes in infrastructure provision. Many countries have applied PPP for several reasons, ranging from limitation of government’s budget to the professionalism of private sector in developing and managing infrastructures. PPP infrastructure has been implemented in Indonesia since 1990s, and implemented initially on toll road and electricity sectors. Water as the basic infrastructure supporting development has limited private involvement compare to other sectors. Most of water services are provided and operated by Local Government Owned Enterprises (BUMD) which face several constraints to achieve better performance. This article based on field study in 2013 and conducted in three provinces such as: East Java, Banten and Jakarta. Primary and secondary data were used to analyse PPP implementation in water sector, particularly for characteristics, achievements, problems and challenges PPP. Primary data collected through in-depth interview with key institutions and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) representing stakeholders. Using development economics, public economics and institutional economics approaches, the result explained through descriptive qualitative analysis. The finding shows that water PPP has been implemented in various ways. The longest period for PPP has been undertaken by Jakarta Province through PAM Jaya cooperated with AETRA and Palyja Companies. In fact, private involvement on water provision in Jakarta haven’t been significantly improving to the company and service performances due to the lack of management and limited barganing position of PAM Jaya in the contract agreement. Meanwhile ideal showcase of water provision is Tangerang Regency along with PT AETRA Air Tangerang. Unfortunately this model tends pure private investment than in PPP implementation. Moreover, the biggest project (based on investment value) will be located in East Java province and it hasn’t started yet because institutional and administrative problems have been hampering on the PPP’s preparation process since it initiated.

Abstract

According to Food Security Agency, food consumption pattern should meet nutrition standards and follow desirable dietary pattern (Pola Pangan Harapan/PPH). PPH is an indicator for nutritional dietary intake. This study aims to analyse food consumption pattern and dietary diversity in Yogyakarta and East Nusa Tenggara; and how they influence food security. The household data survey (Susenas) 2014 showed that PPH scores for Yogyakarta is higher than East Nusa Tenggara. From these scores, Yogyakarta has better food consumption pattern and led to diverse food intake. In Yogyakarta, people have been diversifying their consumption in accordance with the concept of PPH. This means that people have realised to meet their nutrition by consuming nutritious food and help them not only to achieve food security but also nutrition security. Moreover, people have used local-based food to be consumed so that they do not depend on their current food. Meanwhile, in East Nusa Tenggara, people tend to meet their needs regardless their food has good nutrition or not. In addition, dietary diversity or PPH is influenced by some factors, such as education, family size, age of the household head, and expenditure. These results confirm that diverse consumption pattern showed high food security and those factors should be concerned to improve the quality of food consumption.

Abstract

Baitul Mal Aceh is an Aceh provincial government institution that is responsible for managing and distributing zakat, infaq and shadaqah (ZIS). Forecasting the potential of zakat in the future is needed by the Baitul Mal Aceh as one of the foundations for the preparation of ZIS management policies. This study aims to predict the potential of zakat collected in 2018 and 2019 by considering effects of calendar variations. The data used in this study is data realization of monthly zakat receipts starting from January 2015 to December 2017 obtained from Baitul Mal Aceh. The data was analyzed using the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average with Exogenous Variable (ARIMAX) and Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) as comparative model. The results showed that the ARIMAX model with order ARIMA (2.0,2) (1,0,2) 12 , t, V 1 , ..., V 11 is much better than the SARIMA model with order ARIMA (0,1,2) ( 0,1,1) 12 based on indicators of the prediction accuracy (RMSE and MAPE). Realization of zakat receipts in 2018 and 2019 are estimated in the amount of Rp. 1,347,526,504 and Rp. 1,359,728,268. The forecasting results can be used as one of the references for the Baitul Mal Aceh in preparing the policy of distributing zakat in the coming years.

Abstract

Global crisis give big impact to entire banks performance all over the world include banks in Indonesia. Since 1992 Indonesias banking use dual banking system, conventional and sharia banking. This research use non- parametric approach, DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), to compare the efficiency level between conventional and sharia banking in Indonesia’s banking industry. This reseacrh did not use any sampling methods but used all of conventional and sharia bank in Indonesia, and also used period data 2008-2013. Then for see how much the differences between conventional and sharia efficiency, this research use paired t-test. These findings show the empirical evidence that sharia banking can reduce the effect of global financial crisis.
