Abstract

This study addresses the low level of mathematical abstraction ability among students at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang, as identified through a preliminary investigation. To overcome this issue, the Multi-Representation Discourse Model supported by performance-based assessment was employed, with the aim of enhancing students' abstraction capabilities. The primary objective of this research is to examine the influence of students’ learning styles on their mathematical abstraction ability. A quantitative research approach was adopted, focusing on the relationship between learning styles and abstraction skills. Data were collected through an abstraction ability test, a learning style questionnaire, and interviews. The study population comprised Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang during the 2024/2025 academic year. A purposive sampling technique was utilized to select participants who, in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, had studied the topic of related angles, demonstrated active classroom participation, and possessed effective communication skills. The sample selected for this study was Class XI-10. The findings revealed a positive correlation between students’ learning styles and their mathematical abstraction ability, with a correlation coefficient of 0.854, indicating a strong positive relationship. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination showed that learning styles accounted for 73% of the variance in students’ abstraction ability, while the remaining 27% was influenced by other factors. Based on these results, it can be concluded that learning styles significantly and positively affect students' mathematical abstraction thinking ability.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze various types of mistakes made by 4th grade students in class A at SDIT Al Ibrohimi during the process of solving mathematical story problems on the topic of fractions utilizing the Newman procedure, while reviewing their learning styles. The procedure includes five stages, namely Reading, Comprehension, Transformation, Process Skill, and Encoding.  This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, involving 25 students as subjects selected using simple random sampling technique to provide equal opportunities for all chosen students to be part of the sample. Data was collected through the administration of tests in the form of story problems, distribution of learning style questionnaires, conducting interviews, with instruments that have been validated by four experts. Data analysis was conducted through stages of reduction, data presentation, and drawing a conclusion. Based on the research findings, students with visual learning styles tend to make mistakes in the comprehension stage of problem understanding. Auditory learners not only make mistakes in comprehension but also in converting word problems into mathematical forms (transformation). Meanwhile, students with kinesthetic learning styles tend to make mistakes throughout the entire problem-solving procedure. The causes include limitations in understanding the material, forgetfulness, difficulty in converting the form of the problem, and a lack of understanding in following problem-solving procedures. This study indicates that teachers need to adjust their teaching strategies to accommodate all learning styles of students and to frequently provide exercises that emphasize conceptual understanding, thus minimizing errors in solving mathematical conclusion problems.

Abstract

The agricultural sector in Lamongan Regency is severely affected by the threat of drought, potentially affecting food production and farmers' welfare. This study aims to forecast the area of agricultural drought with a very severe category in Lamongan Regency using the Fuzzy Time Series-Markov Chain (FTS-MC) method. The data used includes the average drought area based on the processing of Landsat 8 imagery from 2020–2024, rainfall data, and historical drought data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency. The selection of the FTS-MC method is based on its strength in dealing with uncertain data and modeling drought condition transitions probabilistically. The forecasting results show that the pattern produced by FTS-MC closely follows the actual pattern, with good accuracy indicated by a MAPE value of 13.25%. The forecast result for January 2025 incerased 925,421.43 m². This finding is expected to serve as a reference for local governments and other stakeholders in planning drought mitigation, irrigation management, and more adaptive, data-driven food security strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning application based on Desmos and Padlet for the subject of Two-Variable Linear Equation Systems (SPLDV) to improve students' conceptual understanding through a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach. The main issue underlying this study is the lack of interactive and contextual learning media used in the SPLDV learning process at the junior high school level. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. In the analysis stage, needs were identified through questionnaires administered to teachers and students. The developed product was validated by three experts, resulting in an average validity score of 84.66%, which falls into the highly valid category. A pilot test was conducted with six eighth-grade students and showed a significant improvement between pretest and posttest scores. The evaluation indicated that the application supports student engagement visually, interactively, and is easy for teachers to use in the teaching process. The final results of the study showed that the integration of Desmos and Padlet in SPLDV learning not only enhances conceptual understanding but also encourages active student participation in discussions and problem-solving. This application has been proven to be valid, practical, and effective and is highly recommended for implementation in contextual mathematics learning at the junior high school level on a broad and sustainable basis.

Abstract

Students' motivation to learn mathematics is relatively low, this is caused by the use of conventional learning methods and less interesting media, so that students are less active and have difficulty understanding abstract concepts, especially the Pythagorean theorem. This study aims to develop interactive learning media assisted by Canva to increase students' motivation to learn mathematics. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model consisting of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects of this study were 28 students of class VIII A of SMP Negeri 4 Palopo. The instruments used included media and material validation sheets, learning motivation questionnaires before and after using the media, student practicality questionnaires, and interview guidelines. The validation results showed that the media was in the very valid category with a high percentage of experts. The practicality of the media was assessed as very practical by students, and the effectiveness of the media was proven through an increase in motivation scores on the post-test questionnaire. The final product was a website-based interactive learning media designed using Canva, equipped with material features, videos, quizzes, instructions, and developer profiles. This learning media is valid, practical, and effective in increasing students' learning motivation on the Pythagorean Theorem material.

Abstract

North Tapanuli Regency is highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods and landslides due to high rainfall intensity and complex geographical conditions. To anticipate these risks, this study aims to predict rainfall using the Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) method. The number of nodes in the input layerwas determined based on significant lags identified in the Partial Autocorrelation Function (PACF) plot. The hidden layerwas constructed using the K-Means clustering method to define cluster centers and standard deviations. Model performance was evaluated using the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) metric. The results indicate that the optimal network structure is found in the 4-7-1 architecture, yielding an RMSE of 11.006. This model was then used to predict rainfall for the period from September 1 to December 31, 2024. The prediction results show that rainfall intensity tends to remain stable, ranging from 5 to 9 mm, with the highest value of 9.35 mm on September 1 and the lowest value of 5.40 mm on September 22. Based on these findings, the potential for natural disasters due to high rainfall during the forecast period is relatively low. The RBFNN model has proven effective for handling nonlinear meteorological data patterns, making it a valuable tool for a reference for further academic research in rainfall prediction and data clustering.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by Prezi media on students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach using a pretest-posttest control group design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan, totaling 320 students. The sample consisted of 37 students, comprising the experimental class VIII-T1 (18 students) and the control class VIII-U (19 students). Data analysis was conducted through three stages: first, the normality test using Shapiro-Wilk; second, the homogeneity test using Levene’s Test; and third, the independent-samples t-test. The results showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of the t-test was 0.002. Since this value is lower than the significance level of 0.05 (0.002 < 0.05), the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. These findings confirm that the PjBL model assisted by Prezi has a strong effect in enhancing students’ mathematical problem-solving skills.
