Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In the context of scientific and technological advancement, improving the quality of education is a crucial factor in producing quality human resources. In physics learning, students are not only required to understand basic concepts, but must also be able to apply and analyze them in various situations of daily life. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the guided inquiry learning model supported by the tracker application on students' critical thinking skills. Using a one-group Pretest and Posttest technique, the research design is a quasi-experiment experiment, or simply a quasi-experiment design. It falls within the quantitative research category. The SPSS 26 tracker program was used to analyse the data, perform a paired sample t-test, and assess for normality and homogeneity. The instrument used in the study was a written test in the form of an essay to conduct a pretest and postest. The pretest and posttest data were homogenous and regularly distributed, according to the statistical analysis's findings. Following the adoption of the guided inquiry learning paradigm supported by the tracker application, students' critical thinking abilities significantly improved, as evidenced by a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 obtained from further analysis using the paired sample t-test.

Abstract

The lack of learning interest and environmental awareness among students poses a particular challenge in the school learning process. This study introduces ecoprint pounding as an alternative environment-based learning medium that is not only educational, but also enjoyable and contextual. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a participatory method. The research subjects were elementary school students who were directly involved in the ecoprint-making process, starting from selecting leaves to printing patterns on fabric using the pounding technique. The findings indicate that this activity was effective in increasing students’ enthusiasm and engagement in learning. Additionally, students appeared more creative, collaborative, and showed greater awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. These findings suggest that ecoprint pounding can be a relevant and meaningful learning strategy that supports the early development of ecopedagogical values.

Abstract

Critical thinking is essential in 21st-century education, but its application in English language teaching (ELT) in Indonesia still needs to be better understood. This research examines the understanding and application of critical thinking among prospective ELT teachers in Indonesia. Using qualitative methods with in-depth interviews with three pre-service ELT teachers, this study revealed that prospective teachers understand critical thinking as the ability to analyse, evaluate, and synthesize information. They employ strategies such as group discussions and accurate case analysis to encourage critical thinking but face challenges such as time constraints and variations in student abilities. Findings indicate the need for teacher training programs focusing more on critical thinking skills and providing adequate resources. This research emphasizes the importance of reformulating teacher education curricula and developing effective teaching strategies, contributing to the academic literature and a foundation for practical improvements in ELT in Indonesia. This study's implications are the need to reform teacher education curricula and develop more effective teaching strategies that enhance students' critical thinking abilities. Therefore, this research contributes to the academic literature and provides a foundation for practical improvements in ELT in Indonesia.
