Journal of Mathematics and Science Teaching or Jurnal Pengajaran Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (JPMIPA) was founded in 1993 and published qualitative and or quantitative research concerning mathematics and science teaching. JPMIPA is published by Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (FPMIPA-UPI) in association with Indonesian Society for Science Educators (JPII), twice a year in April and October with 16 articles per number or 32 articles per year.

The aim of this study was to investigate prospective chemistry teachers’ skills on developing alternative assessment. Students of chemistry program of FKIP Untan participated on this study. They had already taken PPL-2 class on academic year of interview guidelines and observations sheets were used to collect data. This study showed that prospective chemistry teachers’ skills on developing traditional assessment (essay and multiple choice test) was categorized as good. On the other hand, prospective chemistry teachers’ skill on developing alternative assessment was categorized as fair. The biggest obstacle teachers had on developing alternative assessment was to make and design task and rubric assessment, and how to implement alternative assessment on learning process.AbstrakPenelitian ini untuk menyelidiki keterampilan calon guru kimia FKIP Untan Pontianak dalam mengembangkan alternative assessment melalui studi deskriptif. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Kimia yang mengambil mata kuliah PPL-2 Tahun Akademik 2016/2017 dengan alat pengumpul data berupa pedoman wawancara dan lembar pengamatan disertai rubrik penilaian yang disusun berdasarkan aspek keterampilan dalam mengembangkan alternative assessment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebanyak 97,67% calon guru kimia terampil dalam mengembangkan penilaian tradisional (bentuk pilihan ganda dan uraian), dan sebanyak 74% calon guru kimia terampil dalam mengembangkan alternative assessment. Kendala terbesar calon guru kimia FKIP Untan dalam mengembangkan alternative assessment adalah membuat task dan rubrik penilaian.

Misconception is one of the obstacles that may reduce learning effectiveness. In this study, we develop two-tier multiple choice diagnostic test instrument that can be used to identify students’  misconceptions on chemical bonding. Two-tier test with 25 test items was proven to be valid and reliable. This diagnostic test was able to detect students’ misconceptions including misconceptions about element stability, ionic bonding, covalent bonding, covalent coordinate bonding, metallic bonding, as well as characteristics and physical property of each bonding. The identified misconceptions could serve as a reference for teachers in remediating students’ misconception.

This descriptive research described a profile of students’ critical thinking that measured by Science Virtual Test (SVT). The participants who involved in this study are 563 students on Junior High School (JHS). Their distibution are 188 students in 7th grade (13 years old), 265 students in 8th grade (14 years old), and 110 students in 9th grade (15 years old). They comes from Bandung city, Bandung district, West Bandung district, Tasikmalaya city, and Kuningan city that gathered in West Java, Indonesia. Qualitatative data were obtained by using five packages of Scienve Virtual Test (SVT) with topic on integrated concepts “living things and environmental sustainability†and separated concepts “heat and matter; human digestive systemâ€. Results showed that general achievement of students’ critical thinking was 58.24%. Its mean in ‘medium’ level. The highest score on element “interpretation and inference†(66.18%) while the lowest score on element “question at issue†(42.02%). Therefore, the strategy to improve of students’ critical thinking is needed.

This study aims to determine the effect of the Just In Time Teaching (JITT) learning model on mastery of concepts in terms of student learning motivation. The design used in the study was quasi experiment. The design of this study used posttest only control group design. Where the study population was class VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Kepanjen. The instrument used to measure mastery of concepts is a post test question, while measuring motivation for learning is a sheet of observation of learning motivation. The technique for testing hypotheses is to use the Analysis of Variance. The results showed that: 1) there was the influence of mastery of students' concepts taught using just in time teaching learning models, and students taught using conventional learning models, 2) there were differences in mastery of physics concepts of students who were highly motivated with students who had motivation low, 3) there is no interaction between just in time teaching and conventional learning models with learning motivation towards mastery of concepts. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that students who learn with the Just In Time Teaching learning model mastery the concept is higher than students who study with conventional learning models. Students who have high learning motivation have higher mastery of concepts compared to students who have low learning motivation. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Just In Time Teaching (JITT) terhadap penguasaan konsep ditinjau dari motivasi belajar siswa. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah quasi experiment. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan posttest only control group design. Dimana populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Kepanjen. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur penguasaan konsep adalah soal post test, sedangkan untuk mengukur motivasi belajar adalah lembar observasi motivasi belajar. Teknik untuk menguji hipotesis adalah dengan menggunakan uji Anova Dua Jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) ada pengaruh penguasaan konsep siswa yang diajar menggunakan model pembelajaran just in time teaching, dan siswa yang diajar menggunakan model pembelajaran konvensional, 2) ada perbedaan penguasaan konsep fisika siswa yang mempunyai motivasi tinggi dengan siswa yang mempunyai motivasi rendah, 3) tidak ada interaksi antara model pembelajaran just in time teaching dan konvensional dengan motivasi belajar terhadap penguasaan konsep. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian maka diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa siswa yang belajar dengan model pembelajaran Just In Time Teaching penguasaan konsepnya lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang belajar dengan model pembelajaran konvensional. Siswa yang memiliki motivasi belajar tinggi memiliki penguasaan konsep yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang memiliki motivasi belajar rendah.Keywords: Just In Time Teaching (JITT), Mastery of Concepts, Learning Motivation

This study investigated the interconnection between student’s achievements in prerequisite courses with their subsequent achievement in mechanics. Eighty-five preservice physics students’ achievement in four prerequisite courses for mechanics, namely Basic Physics I, Basic Physics II, Mathematics Physics I, and Mathematics Physics II, were analyzed statistically to determine the relationships and effects of prior achievement to sub-sequent learning achievement. Results suggested that students’ achievement in mechanics was significantly re-lated to students’ achievement in prerequisite courses. The effects of each course on student’s achievement in mechanics were estimated and discussed.

Solving mathematical problem for most secondary students was still a very difficult job, particularly in understanding the problem and assigning mathematical models. This research attempted to overcome the lack of mathematical problem solving skills of students by using Multi Representation Discourse model (DMR). The purpose of this research was to improve mathematical problem solving skills of junior high school students by implementing DMR model. The method of the research was quasi experiment method with control group pretest-posttest. The population of this research was 7th grade students the one of junior high school in Bandung city. From this research, the researcher randomly took two classes as sample. Instrument of this research was test for measuring the mathematical problem solving skills and a questionnaire and form observation for describing students’ respons. The result of this research shows that mathematical problem solving skills of students who got DMR learning model is higher than that of students who got direct instruction learning. Also students show positive responses enthusiastic, excited, fun and self-confident in learning mathematics.AbstrakMenyelesaikan soal pemecahan masalah matematika bagi kebanyakan siswa SMP merupakan pekerjaan yang sulit, terutama dalam memahami masalah dan menyusun model matematika. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengatasi rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis menggunakan model pembelajaran Diskursus Multirepresentasi (DMR). Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah mengungkap apakah peningkatan model pembelajaran DMR dapat mengatasi kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pemecahan masalah matematika siswa SMP kelas VII. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol pretes-postes. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII salah satu SMPN di Kota Bandung dengan dipilih sampel dua kelas VII. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah tes untuk mengukur kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan instrumen non tes berupa angket dan lembar observasi untuk memngetahui respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran yang dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti model DMR lebih tinggi dibandingkan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran langsung. Selain itu siswa menunjukkan respon yang positif, seperti antusias, senang dan percaya diri dalam pembelajaran matematika.

Students ability in making mathematical connection is one of the key goals in mathematics education. This study describes obstacles to students’ productive connective thinking in solving mathematical problems. Obstacles experienced by the students when solving mathematical problems were identified based on connective thinking networks completeness according to Thosio’s thinking scheme. Think aloud protocol worksheet and recording were analyzed descriptively. In solving mathematical problems, students faced obstacles in every thinking stage. They were unable to make a complete connective thinking network in cognition, formulation, reconstruction, and inference stage.

This study was conducted to determine the model of student’ understandings of changes in the states of matter. An conceptual understanding test related to the concepts on the changes in the states of matter subject matter atau disingkat CSMCUtest was constructed and given to 40 high school students. Each test item consists of four parts of questions, namely questions A to D. Questions A to C asking students to explain a case determine the physics law related to the case and write a case suitable for the related law or concept. Whereas question D asking students to define concepts of melting, evaporation, condenses and deposition.The data analysis was carried out to determine the quantity of high school students in each category of understanding model, that is: Optimum Model (OM), Uncreative Model (UM), Theoretical Model (TM), Practical Model (PM), Memorizing Model (MM) and Inappropriate Model (IM). As a result of the data analysis it was determined that only a few students had a optimum understanding model. The results showed that the high school student’ have significant weaknesses in understanding the terms of fundamental knowledge of changes in the states of matter. This may stem from the lack of student to relate scientific knowledge with real life phenomena and experiences.

This study focuses on the development of creative thinking abilities through ethnomathematics Sunda learning mathematics students primary school teacher reviewed all students, educational background and origin as well as non Sunda Sundanese culture. Subjects used were students semesters 1, 3, 5, and 7 2012/2013 academic year at a State University in West Java and Banten, in the development of teaching materials prepared by the method didactical Design Research (DDR). Then tested through experimentation stage. Instruments used in the form postes. Experimental research with posttest only control group design uses the 135 research subjects first semester students were divided into 3 groups. 2 The experimental group made teaching and Non-DDR DDR and 1 control group.Mathematical creative thinking ability of the students who get ethnomathematics Sunda learning (Non-DDR and DDR) better than students who do not. There is interaction between the learning model and culture of the original group in creative thinking skills mathematical, there is no interaction in a group educational background.AbstrakPenelitian ini berfokus pada pengembangan kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematik mahasiswa PGSD melalui pembelajaran etnomatematika Sunda ditinjau keseluruhan mahasiswa, latar belakang pendidikan dan asal budaya Sunda serta non Sunda. Subjek penelitian yang digunakan adalah mahasiswa semester 1, 3, 5, dan 7 tahun ajaran 2012/2013 di sebuah Universitas Negeri di Jawa Barat dan Banten, dalam pengembangan bahan ajar yang disusun melalui metode Didactical Design Research (DDR). Kemudian diuji melalui tahap eksperimen. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa postes. Penelitian eksperimen dengan desain posttest only control group ini menggunakan subyek penelitian 135 orang mahasiswa semester 1 yang terbagi menjadi 3 kelompok. 2 Kelompok eksperimen berbahan ajar DDR dan Non-DDR dan 1 kelompok kontrol.Kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematik antara mahasiswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran etnomatematika Sunda (DDR dan Non-DDR) lebih baik daripada mahasiswa yang tidak. Terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan kelompok asal budaya dalam kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematik, tidak terdapat interaksi dalam kelompok latar belakang pendidikan.

Sociocultural aspect is considered as important consideration in pre-service science teachers’ educational program. The objective of the study was to improve the ability of pre-service science teachers in reconstructing local community indigenous knowledge. Subjects were 87 pre-service science teachers from three universities in Central and East Java with Dieng Plateau’ community indigenous knowledge in breastfeeding as knowledge that they have to reconstruct. Results suggested that pre-service science teachers were able to reconstruct the indigenous knowledge well. Implication to pre-service science teacher’s educational program is discussed.
