Abstract

Mathematical connection is a goal in a mathematical learning, with the existence of a mathematical connection the good communication between teacher and student can occur. Based on previous research, the mathematical connections of students at school are still low. This is because so far learning has not provided opportunities for students to develop their abilities in channeling with what they have captured. One of the lessons to improve mathematical problem solving skills is Relating, Experiencing, Appliying, Cooperating and Transferring (REACT). The purpose of this study is to outline the importance of increasing the ability of mathematical connections through REACT to prepare superior generations to face MEA. Improved mathematical connection capabilities of students are expected to be able to prepare superior students who are ready to compete and be able to face the challenges of the Asean Economic Community.AbstrakKoneksi matematis merupakan tujuan dalam suatu pembelajaraan matematika, dengan adanya koneksi matematis dapat terjalinya komunikasi yang baik antara guru dan siswa. Berdasarkan penelitian terdahulu, koneksi  matematika siswa di sekolah masih rendah. Hal ini dikarenakan selama ini pembelajaran kurang memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa untuk mengembangkan kemampuannya dalam menyalurkan dengan apa yang mereka tangkap. Salah satu pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis adalah Relating, Experiencing, Appliying, Cooperating and Transferring (REACT). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguraikan pentingnya peningkatan kemampuan koneksi matematis melalui REACT untuk mempersiapkan generasi unggul menghadapi MEA. Peningkatan kemampuan koneksi matematis siswa diharapkan mampu menyiapkan siswa unggul yang siap bersaing dan mampu dalam menghadapi tantangan Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean.Key word: Realating, experiencing, appliying,cooperating, tranfering and and mathematical conection

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effect of PBL model on students’ analytical thinking abilities and science process skills at rate reaction. This research was quasi experimental research using posttest-only control design. The sample was consisted 2 classess, experiment class used Problem Based Learning model and control class used Direct Instruction model with a total sample of 61 students. Instruments of this research were the observation sheet for measuring science process skills and the integrated assessment instrument which involved two indicators, analytical thinking abilities and science process skills. The result of this study shows that PBL model can increase students’ analytical thinking abilities and science process skills. The mean of posttest analytical thinking abilities and science process skills in experiment class is better than control class. The result of the statistic tests using ancova analysis shows that significance 0.000 0.05 at 5% significance level, so there’s effect of the using of PBL model on students’ analytical thinking abilities and science process skills.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh model PBL terhadap kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia peserta didik pada materi laju reaksi menggunakan instrumen penilaian terintegrasi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu. Desain penelitian yang digunakan, yaitu posttest control group design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 61 peserta didik yang dibagi dalam dua kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen menggunakan model Problem Based Learning, sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan model Direct Instruction. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian, yaitu lembar observasi untuk mengukur keterampilan proses sains kimia dan instrumen penilaian terintegrasi yang mencakup indikator kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model Problem Based Learning dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia peserta didik. Nilai rata-rata posttest kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibanding kelas kontrol. Hasil uji statistik menggunakan uji ankova menunjukkan nilai signifikansi 0,000 0,05 sehingga pada taraf signifikansi 5% dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh penggunaan model Problem Based Learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia peserta didik pada materi laju reaksi.

Abstract

Students’ misconceptions still become major focus of educational research in recent years. Information on students’ conceptual understanding and students’ misconceptions is necessary so that the teachers can detect misconception experienced by students. This study evaluated students’ conceptual understanding and misconceptions about Fungi using four tier diagnostic tests. Results showed that students' understanding was considered as poor. Misconceptions rates were also high with misconceptions about characteristics, reproduction, growth factor, classification, and Fungi role in life as misconceptions commonly found in the students.

Abstract

This research aims to develop mathematics student teacher professional and pedagogical competencies through subject Specific Pedagogy (SSP) workshops by applying cyclic-reflective-collaborative model. The research involved 42 mathematics student teacher of the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program at the Department of Mathematics Education year 2015 and year 2016. The students had one year teaching experience. The workshops were carried out in 10 weeks, 6 cycles, using the design OXO, and focused on developing student abilities in planning educative learning-and-teaching (subject specific pedagogy)—which covers the following program: deepening subject matter knowledge, the development of learning methods and materials, the development of learning media and assessment tools, the development of teaching plans and syllabi, and the implementation of these components in the real classrooms. The strategy, used in the workshops, was a cyclic model: plan-action-reflection (PAR), which is adapted from the lesson study principles: plan-do-see. This strategy was implemented in a cycle of process, product, and open lesson. The instrument included professional and pedagogical competencies test—which covers school mathematics topics grades 7-12. The results showed that SSP workshops with cyclic model, applying the lesson study principles, are effective for developing student professional and pedagogical competencies—in medium level; most of students felt comfortable and were facilitated during the workshops; and the minimum competencies, quantitatively, can be achieved with the improvement is in the medium level.

Abstract

Ethnochemistry is a chemical applied by certain cultural groups. This study aims to obtain information and descriptions of what ethnochemistry practiced by the Acehnese tribe in East Aceh and what potential of ethnochemistry can be developed in chemistry lectures. This research was carried out in East Aceh Regency and Langsa City. The research subjects consisted of teachers, lecturers, administrators of the Majelis Adat Aceh (MAA) and community leaders from East Aceh who were well acquainted with ethnochemical practices in the community. This research is a qualitative research model with ethnographic methods. The stages of the study included the theoretical study stage, namely literacy studies on ethnography of Acehnese tribal communities and applied chemistry and the stages of empirical study or data collection to inventory the ethnochemical knowledge practiced by the Acehnese people. Data collection was carried out using observation techniques, documentary studies, and interviews with research instruments include observation sheets, documentation, and interview guidelines. Data analysis techniques in research use a qualitative approach. Data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation are analyzed simultaneously by first sorting out similar data (categorization) and then doing data reduction, presentation, and conclusions as well as verification. The results of the study showed that the ethnochemical knowledge of the tribes of Aceh in East Aceh that could be developed in chemistry lectures included the analysis of chemical studies on: natural ingredients used as medicines; natural ingredients used as food additives; natural ingredients used as beauty and cleaning tools and materials; appropriate technology; and processing typical Acehnese food.  ABSTRAKEtnokimia adalah kimia yang diterapkan oleh kelompok budaya tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi dan deskripsi tentang etnokimia apa saja yang dipraktikkan suku Aceh di Aceh Timur dan potensi apa saja dari etnokimia tersebut yang dapat dikembangkan dalam perkuliahan kimia. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kabupaten Aceh Timur dan Kota Langsa. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari guru, dosen, pengurus Majelis Adat Aceh (MAA) serta tokoh masyarakat asal Aceh Timur yang mengenal betul praktik etnokimia di masyarakat. Penelitian ini merupakan model penelitian kualitatif dengan metode etnografi. Tahapan penelitian meliputi tahap kajian teori yaitu studi literasi tentang etnografi masyarakat suku Aceh dan terapan ilmu kimia serta tahap kajian empirik atau pengumpulan data untuk menginventarisasi pengetahuan etnokimia yang dipraktikkan masyarakat Aceh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik pengamatan, studi dokumenter, dan wawancara dengan instrumen penelitian meliputi lembar observasi, dokumentasi dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Data yang diperoleh dari wawancara, pengamatan, dan dokumentasi dilakukan analisis secara simultan dengan terlebih dahulu melakukan pemilahan data yang sejenis (kategorisasi) selanjutnya dilakukan reduksi data, penyajian, dan kesimpulan serta verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengetahuan etnokimia suku Aceh di Aceh Timur yang dapat dikembangkan dalam perkuliahan kimia meliputi analisis kajian kimia tentang: bahan alam yang dijadikan obat-obatan; bahan alam yang dijadikan zat aditif makanan; bahan alam yang dijadikan alat dan bahan kecantikan serta pembersih; teknologi tepat guna; dan pengolahan makanan khas Aceh. Keywords: Aceh, ethnochemistry, inventory, local wisdom, etnokimia, inventarisasi, kearifan lokal.

Abstract

Pelajaran kimia di SMK merupakan mata pelajaran adaptif dengan tujuan menjadi dasar bagi peserta didik untuk mempelajari hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan program keahlian. Prestasi belajar dan motivasi  siswa SMK disalah satu kota Serang pada pelajaran kimia tergolong. Karena kurangnya relevansi pelajaran kimia dengan program keahlian siswa. Pada penelitian ini digunakan pembelajaran berbasis konteks dengan teka teki ludo yang diharapkan dapat mengatasi rendahnya hasil belajar kimia. Penelitian menggunakan quasi eksperimen dengan bentuk pretest-posttest control group design. Sampel penelitian merupakan siswa kelas XI Teknik Gambar Bangunan 1 dan XI Teknik Mesin 6 SMKN 2 Kota Serang. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan soal tes pilihan ganda sebanyak 30 butir soal yang valid dan reliabel. Teknik analisis data terdiri dari analisis deskriptif yakni  n-gain dan aktivitas siswa serta analisis statistik meliputi uji independent t test dan effect size. Hasil penelitian menunjukan nilai n-gain kelas eksperimen (0,531) lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol (0,390). Uji independent t test diperoleh nilai sig.2 tailed sebesar 0,000 yang berarti terdapat perbedaan nilai rata-rata pada kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dengan kategori tinggi yang dibuktikan dengan effect size (0,95). Dari penelitian ini didapatkan hasil belajar siswa pada konsep koloid dapat meningkat dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis konteks dengan teka teki ludo.

Abstract

A research to explore Physics Education Study Program students’ conceptual understanding on motion and force has been done. The research used quantitative and qualitative mix-method. The instrument used was the Indonesian version of Force Concept Inventory (FCI). The results showed that the level of students’ conceptual understanding on motion and force was 18,08%, and the level of their conceptual mastery for each of six-areas were between 9,9% and 26,2%, with the tendency the students more difficult to mastery the higher concepts. From 21 concepts, 19 concepts were well understood by less than 30% students and 2 others concepts by less than 50% students. Among the most difficult concepts to understand were: velocity direction constant if there is no force work, effect of weight/mass in acceleration of falling object, discriminate acceleration and velocity, contact force of air resistance, relationship between constant force and constant acceleration, first law for cancelling forces, and third law for continuous forces. The conclusion was the students’ conceptual mastery is low for all of motion and force materials. It is suggested that the lecturer of Basic Physics course concerns about students’ conceptual understanding and look for specific strategy to promote students’ conceptual understanding on motion and force.AbstrakTelah dilakukan penelitian untuk melihat pemahaman konsep mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Fisika pada materi gerak dan gaya. Penelitian menggunakan metode gabungan kuantitatif-kualitatif. Instrument yang digunakan adalah Force Concept Inventory (FCI) versi Bahasa Indonesia. Hasil penelitian adalah didapatkan tingkat pemahaman konsep gerak dan gaya 18,08%. Tingkat penguasaan untuk masing-masing dari enam area gerak dan gaya adalah pada rentang 9,9% - 26,2% dengan kecendrungan semakin sedikit mahasiswa menguasai konsep yang lebih tinggi. Dari 21 konsep, 19 konsep dipahami dengan baik oleh kurang dari 30% mahasiswa dan 2 konsep lainnya kurang oleh 50% mahasiswa. Beberapa konsep yang paling sulit dipahami adalah: arah kecepatan konstan jika tidak ada gaya yang bekerja, pengaruh berat/massa pada percepatan benda jatuh, membedakan percepatan dan kecepatan, gaya kontak gesekan fluida (udara), hubungan gaya konstan dengan percepatan konstan, hukum 1 untuk gaya yang saling meniadakan, dan hukun 3 untuk gaya kontinu. Kesimpulan adalah tingkat penguasaan konsep rendah secara merata diseluruh materi gerak dan gaya. Implikasi dari penelitian adalah pengampu mata kuliah perlu memperhatikan pemahaman konsep dan mencarikan strategi spesifik untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep pada materi gerak dan gaya.

Abstract

Physics education has long emphasized the importance of developing students’ scientific reasoning. This study investigated the development of students’ scientific reasoning using inquiry-based learning with computer simulation. Students’ scientific reasoning was probed by Lawson Classroom Test of Scientific Reasoning (LCTSR) and questionnaire to explore students’ response to the learning strategy. Results showed that all of six scientific reasoning aspects (material and volume conservation, proportional thinking, variable identification and control, probabilistic thinking, correlative thinking, and hypothetic-deductive thinking) was enhanced after learning with average N-Gain reflected the results. Aside from scientific reasoning enhancement, students responded positively to the learning strategy.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a practical guide-book of scientific approach that can develop college students scientific thinking skills. The research is using the Research and Development (R D) form by follow development path of ADDIE (Analyze Design, Develop, implement and Evaluate). The result of validation from the education and the chemistry experts showed that the practical guide-book that where develop was valid and possible to use. Then the practical guide-book is implemented into learning and the results showed that there are differences in students' scientific thinking skills before and after the developed practical guide-book are implemented and there is an increase with a normal gain score is 0.76 which is in the high category and students respond positively to practical activities using scientific-based practical guide-book. Thus it can beconcluded that the developed practical guide-book  is valid and possible to use and can develop students' scientific thinking skills

Abstract

Penelitian dan pengembangan Inquiry Manual Taching Book (IMTB) pada materi ekosistem dilakukan untuk membantu guru merancang dan menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri dalam memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Penelitian yang didesain merupakan Research and Development (RD) yang mengacu model Borg dan Gall (1983). Responden dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari empat guru Biologi SMA dan 109 peserta didik SMA kelas X dari dua SMA di Kota Surakarta dan dua SMA di Sragen. Pengumpulan data penelitian menggunakan angket, tes, lembar observasi, lembar validasi, lembar penilaian RPP, lembar keterlaksanaan sintaks LoI, dan tes kemampuan berpikir kritis. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis data deskriptif dalam bentuk persentase, nilai gain, uji t berpasangan, dan uji anacova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Rata-rata pemahaman, pelaksanaan, dan kesulitan guru biologi tentang pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri guru biologi sebesar 68,12% tergolong kategori cukup. Rata-rata hasil kemampuan guru mengurutkan sintaks inkuiri sebesar 27,58% tergolong sangat kurang. Rata-rata kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik sebesar 49,25% tergolong sangat kurang; (2) karakteristik IMTB, yaitu berbasis model LoI, sebagai sumber bahan ajar bagi guru, berorientasi pada tujuan untuk memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis, memiliki prinsip less is more, mudah dipahami dan sistematis, membantu guru dalam merencanakan dan menerapkan LoI, dan berorientasi pada aktivitas peserta didik; (3) para ahli menyimpulkan bahwa IMTB layak berdasarkan komponen materi dan pembelajaran, instrumen evaluasi, tata bahasa, dan kegrafikan. Praktisi pendidikan menyimpulkan bahwa IMTB layak dengan predikat bagus; (4) ketercapaian pembuatan RPP bagi guru biologi pada mata materi ekosistem berdasarkan IMTB sebesar 89,92% dan tergolong kategori sangat baik; (5) ada perbedaan signifikan nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik antara pretes dan postes. Terdapat peningkatan jumlah peserta didik pada kelompok kemampuan berpikir kritis sedang dan tinggi. Peningkatan setiap aspek kemampuan berpiki kritis dengan N-gain sebesar 0,5 berkategori sedang; (6) ada pengaruh profil guru dalam mengajar dengan menggunakan IMTB terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Kata kunci: Inquiry Manual Teaching Book, Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis, Biologi.
