Abstract

This article describes Mullā Ṣadrā’s idea to solve a polemic and debate on the resurrection after the death. The debate especially concerns on the resurrection of what: is it the soul or the body which resurrect? For this matter Mullā Ṣadrā offers three concepts 1) the soul is eternal and will be resurrected by a new body, 2) that new body is a result of the soul’s projection from its conduct in the world, 3) the soul will continually walk from one sphere to another without ending to God.

Abstract

The writer used to find in the declining state of the umma vis-à-vis the surrounding world, the cultural and intellectual attacks against it, and the deteriorating status of human rights of Muslims, all together, as the dilemma which encounters the advocates of Islam and human rights. A notable matter is the ‘chastisement’ of women as a prerogative of the husband and a way to resolve problems of the nuptial association that result from the recalcitrance and disobedience of women and their disaffection for and alienation from their spouses. He was always aware of the reasons and implications of that dilemma, in particular, due to its significance and relevance to the modern world.

Abstract

Postmodernism is a critical reflection on the paradigms of modernism and the era of the rise of religious spirituality. In this respect, the emergence of social theory in the perspective of postmodernism makes the approach and methodology of religious studies growing richer. Among these are the Foucauldian approach, Derrida’s and Habermas’ concepts. Apart from that, discourse of Foucauldian dealing with archaeological- genealogical perspective in complementary can form a critical perspective for religious studies, and socially unveil the workings of a regional and practical power relation. In addition, the perspective of deconstruction by Derrida offers not only a way to read a text, but also social reality, to undermine the status of a dominant and repressive discourse and other social practices. In fact, Habermas’ critical theory in the style of criticism is against the methodology creating ‘religious’ discourse which is impartial and oppressive.

Abstract

This study will begin by discussing the history of the Qur?an, the Qur?an as a revelation, the history of the writing of the Qur?an and the content of the discussion of the Qur?an. By describing what the initial scriptures were written about and when the general codification of the Koran was agreed upon became the main global reference, it could be understood by educated people, especially the laity. As we already know that the Koran in general is initially a complex thing, meaning that the process of occurrence requires stages that are not instantaneous. Various concepts related to the scriptures, such as ?God, Angels, Revelations, Prophets,? are often understood as taken forgranted. Likewise the process of revelation of the Qur?an, such as narration, writing, gathering and opening, is often not a concern. This paper intends to discuss the Qur?an from a Historical-Theological perspective. Other things accepted in dogma, such as God's word, verse structure, spelling, and structure of the text, are questioned again by positioning in the historical context at the time the revelation was revealed and then written. The emphasis of this paper is on the process of sacralization of the Koran having a long journey and intersecting with the historical events of the Muslims between the aural and the codification of ?Uthm?n?. Briefly, outlining the history of revelation and writing of the Koran becomes a ?holy book? for religious communities. The process of sacralization of the "holy book" cannot be separated from the increasingly mature written tradition of human life that is complex. But does not deny the tradition of previous writings, such as the Bible or books of the Jews and Christians. Because the tradition of writing al-Qur?an is imitating from previous books. Is that right?.

Abstract

A new pattern of writing Indonesian tafsir emerges from the modernists desire to publish Qur’ānic commentary in Indonesian language. Mahmud Yunus was the first Muslim scholar who wrote theTafsir Qur’an Karim as the first Indonesian Qur’ānic commentary in the modern era. Three elements of modernity marking the new pattern of modern Indonesian Qur’ānic commentary were introduced by Mahmud Yunus, namely the use of Latin alphabets, the brief character of writing, and the introduction of scientific tendency, all of which can be considered the newly invented elements of modern Qur’ānic commentary. Being analyzed from a socio-hermeneutical perspective this piece investigates the ingredients of Mahmud Yunus’ reforming ideas interpolated along the course of his academic and cultural backgrounds. In addition, this writing also extrapolates the wider angle of sosial dynamics within Indonesian academic climate from the second half of the twentieth century.

Abstract

The characteristics of sex education in the Qur’an are preventive, universal, realistic-accurate. Preventive because the Qur’an has warned from the beginning to avoid negative sex so as not to fall into the humiliation as it has befalling the past. Universal because the Qur’an explains thoroughly all the problems about sex from before someone was born until he died. The method of writing this paper is the Mawḍū’ī Interpretation (thematic) by identifying the verses of the Qur’an related to the theme. The purpose of writing this paper is to explain to the reader the concept of the Qur’an about sex education. To realize this goal, this paper outlines the meaning, purpose, object, phase, benefits of sex education in the Qur’an. Abstract

In the Nusantara tasauf world, sufi’s teachings and practices are not specifically belonging to Ṭarīqas (sufi orders.) Several remembrances (dhikr) and recitations (amalan) owned by certain groups, which cannot be called as a Ṭarīqa circle, are closely practiced in some places called as: majlis dhikr or majlis ta‘līm—which can however be called as tasauf movement. Gus Miek/Gus Mik (K.H. Hamim Djazuli) is one of a creator of dhikr the so-called ‘Dhikr al-Ghāfilīn.’ Unfortunately, in the recent time there are debates that question the originality of tasauf circle headed by Gus Miek. This critique of the originality is pointed on its otenticity: is it only Gus Miek alone who formulated Dhikr al-Ghāfilīn, or are there any some body else? This writing describes history of Dhikr al-Ghāfilīn as believed by three groups of people. First, some believes that dhikr purely resulted by Gus Miek himself without intervention from other people. Second believes that Gus Miek accompanied by other persons like K.H. Ahmad Shiddiq and K.H. Hamid Pasuruan. Third is a neutral group that did not wish to involve in such debates, but believes that Dhikr al-Ghāfilīn is good deed and do not contradict Islamic teachings. These three opinions are argumentations which are so long admitted by the people and are important to divulge. Apart from that, this writing describes the controversial personality of Gus Miek. Besides his strange proselytization (da‘wa), like in prostitution places and alcoholic communities, Gus Miek is a heavy drinker of black-beer.
