Abstract

The Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) methodology is a recent systematic approach to analyze and assess identified waste (potential failure mode) on products / services or processes and prevent the frequency of occurrence. This study aims to develop FMEA and is used to analyze the root causes of failure and pareto diagrams to show the most critical identified failures for immediate corrective action. While the Faultr Tree Analysis (FTA) method analyzes system failures from a combination of several systems, levels below and component failures. The results achieved are failure priorities based on the largest RPN value and then action recommendations are taken to address them. The results of this study indicate that in the process of maintaining the plant overhaul there are several wastes. For each waste identified (failure mode) it has been analyzed using Pareto diagrams. To facilitate the assessment of identified waste carried out by respondents from management and experts in their fields through questionnaires. The results will produce a risk priority number (RPN), where the HP TBV HRSG fails to operate at 210, the HP BFP pump is off at 196, the BCP pump has a high Vibration of 192. While the root cause of the potential failure mode has been identified by fault tree analysis (FTA). While some alternative improvements such as: There is a need for training for operators to know and recognize the system, involvement of operators in carrying out repairs / maintenance is important, increasing the availability of spare parts in the field is recommended for the company.

Abstract

Social and economic conditions affect people’s behavior and preference for housing and the selection of housing area and its design. People with higher economic and social conditions will choose a better quality of housing and the environment. This decision also influences housing preference for apartment design. The quality of the apartment is influenced by a healthy environment, the use of energy that is efficient and can be recycled, using the eco-design approach, and basic facilities are provided. This study focuses on design-based research for designing an apartment building that suits the preferences of middle and upper occupants with an ecological approach. In this study, middle and upper occupant preference determines the shape of the facade design in buildings. In order to determine design parameters and criteria, this study uses a literature review, data analysis, and architectural precedent study. The result finds that several aspects are synthesized and selected as general design criteria apartment buildings. The important parameters in the design of the facade of the building are attractive façade design and emphasize the changing color through vegetation design inside and surrounding the building facades at each season. The building is designed minimalist architecture with a neutral color selection that is combined with natural colors such as wood and stone. Parts of apartment facilities can also be accessed by the occupants easily. Placement of vegetation evenly gives the impression of being close to nature and provides relaxation for each occupant of the apartment building.

Abstract

VMI is the main concept for gaining accurate information and information sharing from customers to suppliers to achieve low safety stock levels, efficient inventory cost, and a reduction of ordering cost. There are many suppliers who supply spare part products under the VMI contract. Therefore, the company needs to make a decision for selecting a qualified supplier in order to improve customer service level and customer satisfaction. In addition, the uncertainty and vagueness of the expert's opinion is the prominent characteristic of the problem. Therefore an extensively used multi-criteria decision-making tool AHP can be utilized as an approach for supplier selection problems. This paper reveals the application of AHP model determining the best supplier with respect to selected criteria for selecting the best supplier under the VMI contract among the alternatives. There are criteria in this study namely quality, price, delivery, service, supplier’s background, and Information technology which include thirty subcriteria covers in the VMI contract. This research might be identified the critical criteria for supplier selection under the VMI contract.

Abstract

River as the boundary is listed in the 1915 Netherland-British Agreement with its Annex Map without any clear coordinates. This is an obstacle in tracing boundaries in the real river because river is dynamic, changes in the river shape and river bank can occur in more than 100 years. Multi-temporal Landsat satellite imagery processed with a combination of bands (color composite) is used to observe the position of the river bank from 1989 to 2019 with visual interpretation and manual digitization. As a result, over 30 years there was a shifting in the Sikapal river bank with an average 10.8 m on the right side (Indonesia) and 13.6 m on the left side (Malaysia). The average shifting of the Tamboe river bank is the right side 19.8 m and on the left side 9.1 m. The shifting is relatively small because around the Sikapal and Tamboe rivers banks are overgrown by mangrove forests which can slow down the rate of erosion. River banks in 1989, 1999, 2009 and 2019 were used as a basemap for delimitation of the Indonesia-Malaysia boundary using a three-stage approach method. As a result, there are differences in the shape of the boundary line although it is small. Furthermore, Indonesia river area increased 13.4 ha and 14,3 ha for Malaysia river area.

Abstract

Quality is one of the essential indicators for companies to exist amid strong competition. The 5.56 mm ammunition, especially variant MU5-TJ, is the primary commodity of PT. X. The process in ammunition production includes making cartridge cases, making bullets, making primers, and assembling ammunitions. The highest cost of defective products is led by defects in the preparation of the 5.56 mm ammunition, reaching 32.3%. In the process of preparing this kind of ammunition, most of the defects came from variant MU5-TJ, which accounted for 64%. This study aimed to improve the quality of the MU5-TJ ammunition preparation process by increasing its level of sigma. The method used in this study was the Six Sigma method through the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) phases. The quality identification results showed that the weighing and gauging process was the most contributing factor to the defects in the preparation of MU5-TJ ammunitions. The main defect found was the improper weight of the munitions due to the underfilling of propellant powder. The results of the chi-square test showed that the defect-causing factors with significant effects included the presence of sensor filling, varnish composition, tool material, and inspection methods. To reduce the defects, further improvements were made by installing the filling sensor on the ammunition assembly machine, changing the composition of the cartridge case mouth varnish, the use of tools made of hartmetall, and auto-control by the operator every 15 minutes. The results of the implementation of the improvements made resulted in an increase in sigma level from 3.69 to 3.79.

Abstract

Earthquake Shaking Table (EST) is a device which can simulate an earthquake motion. This device is used to test the strength of a building structure against an earthquake motions before it’s actually made. EST uses a variety of actuators one of them is ball-screw linear guide actuator. The EST used in this project is a bi-axial type which uses 2 linear actuators to simulate the x-axis and y-axis movement of earthquake, each of them used bipolar stepper motor as the main rotary-actuating device. This project models the linear guide actuator using backpropagation neural-network algorithm. The model is built with empirical method using datas taken from the real behavior of both linear actuators. The datas include acceleration, displacement, and velocity of both actuators and they are used to train the neural network using backpropagation with Levenberg-Marquadt method. Simulation is done using Simulink and the results show that model is able to produces nearly same exact movement with the real hardware with error approximately 0,214 % and 0,685% respectively for both actuators.

Abstract

Two-wheeled vehicle has many advantages such as small size, more efficiency, and more maneuverable. These advantages come at the lack of stability and safety. To improve the stability and safety of a two-wheeled vehicle, the Control Moment Gyroscopic Stabilization is considered. This system is composed to generate counteracting roll stabilizing torque. In this study, the system of gyroscopic stabilizer is simulated and validated to be implemented into a two-wheeled vehicle. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller is designed to control the gimbal for generating the balancing torque. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated through simulation for non-linear cases. The result of the non-linear model confirms a good balance in terms of rapid response.
