Abstract

Nypa Palm Worm Namalycastis rhodohorde has economic potential as an export commodity. Condition current population continues to decline due to habitat degradation and overharvesting. Cultivation be a solution to overcome these problems. On the laboratory scale this species has been successfully cultivated, but still faces obstacles to high mortality in early developmental stages. Larvae obtained by artificial fertilization and maintained with the same stocking density and container as well as the same volume of maintenance media only distinguished by two treated feed. Survival and growth of larvae feed did not differ between treatment seaweed and fermented palm fronds. Different stocking densities suggested for further research related to survival and growth of the Nypa palm worm larvae to obtain the best data for mass production

Abstract

Hemibagrus nemurus is a local commodity fish that is especially favored by people in South Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan. The low survival rate of H. nemurus in the seed rearing phase is one of the obstacles in developing its cultivation. In this study an environmental modification was carried out in the rearing of H. nemurus seed containers through the addition of aeration and recirculation to increase the growth and survival. The study was conducted at a hatchery of farmers in the Kemang area, West Java. The initial length of seed was 10.1 ± 0.17 mm. The container size used was 300 liters of fiberglass. Stocking density was 10 fish / L. The maintenance period was 1 month. The treatments tested were rearing of seeds in an aquarium using A) Aeration system, B) Recirculation System, and C) Aeration + Recirculation System. The results showed that the use of rearing containers equipped with Aeration + Recirculation system resulted in better growth (29.4 mm) and survival (24.5%) compared to rearing in containers with only aeration or recirculation systems. Key words : Aeration,Growth, Hemibagrus nemurus, Recirculation, Survival rate

Abstract

This research was conducted from February to May 2019. The purpose of this study was to determine the network structure of striped catfish fed with turmeric flour before and after being tested with Aeromonas hydrophila. Sampling of histopathological preparations was carried out 2 times, namely at the beginning of maintenance, 30 days of maintenance and 14 days after the challenge test. The observed organ was the liver. The results of histological observations of catfish liver for 30 days of maintenance and fed with turmeric flour were still good. The structure of liver tissue after being challenged in treatment P1, P2 and P3 suffered damage such as hypertrophy, vacuole degeneration and necrosis. The best dose of adding turmeric flour to feed is 0.7 g / kg (P2) with the least damage.Key words: Striped fish, histopathology, liver, necrosis, turmeric flour

Abstract

The main fish farming activities at the enlargement stage require a feed cost of around 60% of the total production cost. Efforts that can be made to reduce the cost of feed are through the starvation and fermentation of feed. This study uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which is 3 treatments and 3 replications.  The treatments tried were treatment A = protein feed 31-33% without fermentation (daily feeding), treatment B = protein feed 21-23% fermentation,, (daily feeding), treatment C = protein feed 21-23% fermentation, (1 day starvation 1 day re-feeding), treatment D = protein feed 21-23% fermentation, (1 day starvation 2 days re-feeding), E treatment = protein feed 21-23% fermentation, n (1 day starvation  3 days re-feeding). The study was conducted in a walled pond which was sealed using a net (50 x 50 x 100 cm3), feeding 3 times a day. The results showed that the treatment E effectively suppressed the FCR value and offset the daily growth rate of Treatment A. In addition, treatment E has the same FCR value as treatments B, C, D but treatment E has a higher daily growth rate. Keywords: starvation, fermentation, growth, FCR

Abstract

The use of herbal supplements is an alternative to increase food security, because it can stimulate fish appetite and increase fish immunity against disease. The aims of this research to know the total leukocytes, leukocyte differentiation and survival rate of striped catfish fed with dosage fermented herbal supplements, and to obtain the best dosage. The implementation of research was from June until August 2019 at the Parasites and Fish  Diseases Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Riau University. The method used is a completely randomized design (CRD), with four treatments and three replications, namely P0 (without the addition of herbal supplements), P1 (herbal supplement dose 100 mL / kg of feed), P2 (200 mL / kg of feed), and P3 (300 mL / kg of feed). Maintenance of fish is carried out for 60 days, with a stocking density of 50 fish / m. The results showed that the herbal supplementation at a dose of 200 mL / kg of feed (P2) was the optimal dosage in stimulating total leukocytes and differentiation of catfish leukocytes. P2 treatment resulted in total leukocytes of 11.26 x 104 cells/mm3, further differentiation of leukocytes such as lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils and platelets of 81.67%, 6.33%, 5.67% and 6.33%. In addition it produces a survival rate of 100%. Key words : Fermented herbal supplement, striped catfish, total leukocytes

Abstract

The development of vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) culture will affect the increasing need of live food organisms for shrimp larvae, especially Artemia sp. In shrimp hatchery, biotechnical constraints of culture of Artemia sp. and dependence on imported cysts is a limiting factor for success. Perhaps, the use of Oithona sp. is an alternative live food for L. vannamei larvae which has the potential to be combined with Artemia sp. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a combination of live foods, Artemia sp. and Oithona sp. on the survival rate of L. vannamei shrimp larvae and to determine the percentage of live food combinations that provide the best survival rate of L. vannamei shrimp larvae. The method used was an experiment carried out at the Coastal Area Development Laboratory, Jepara. The experimental design used CRD with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Those treatments were a combination of live food, Artemia sp. and Oithona sp. with the percentage ratio of each treatment A. 100%: 0%; B. 75%: 25%; C. 50%: 50%; D. 25%: 75%; and E. 0%: 100%. The results showed that the combination of live foods of Artemia sp. and Oithona sp. had a significant effect (p<.05) on the survival rate of the L. vannamei  shrimp larvae and the percentage of the combination of natural foods, Artemia sp. ranged of 50 -100% and Oithona sp ranged of 0% - 50% had given the survival rates of L. vannamei larvae (N-5/6 to PL-10)  ranged of 41.71-43.00%.
