Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada atau tidaknya perbedaan yang terjadi pada kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa-siswa yang diajarkan dengan pengajaran naskah lagu-lagu dan pengajaran konvensional. Populasi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswa kelas 4 SD di Sub-Kecamatan Tegallalang, Gianyar - Bali. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain post test only control group design. Dengan menggunakan random sampling dipilih dua sekolah sebagai sampel penelitian yaitu SD N 1 Kedisan dan SD N 2 Kedisan. Kemudian, dengan menggunakan teknik lotre ditentukan bahwa SD N 1 Kedisan sebagai kelompok eksperimen yang diajarkan dengan pengajaran naskah lagu dan SD N 2 Kedisan sebagai kelompok control yang diajarkan dengan pengajaran konvensional. Data yang diperoleh yaitu dari hasil post test yang kemudian di analisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial. Dari hasil analysis menunjukan bahwa kelompok eksperimen mencapai nilai yang lebih baik dalam kompetensi bahasa Inggris daripada kelompok kontrol. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh oleh kelompok ekperimen adalah 86 sedangkan nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh oleh kelompok konvensional adalah 66. Selain itu, hasil dari statistik inferensial diperoleh nilai t observed (tobs) adalah 12.97 lebih besar dari nilai t critical value t (tcv) yang menunjukkan 1.99 pada level 0.05. Hasil nilai statistik inferensial membuktikan bahwa ada perbedaan yang sangat jelas terjadi pada kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa-siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan pengajaran naskah lagu-lagu dan pengajaran konvensional. Sehingga null hipotesis (Ho) pada penelitian ini ditolak. Kata Kunci : Kompetensi bahasa Inggris, naskah lagu-lagu This study was intended to investigate whether or not there was a significant difference in the students’ English competence which was taught by using scripted songs and conventional teaching. The population of this study was the four grade students at primary school in sub-district Tegallalang, Gianyar – Bali. Post test only control group design was used in this study. Through random sampling, the two schools were taken as sample in this study, namely SD N 1 Kedisan and SD N 2 Kedisan. Then, by implementing lottery technique was determined that SD N 1 Kedisan was assigned as experimental group and SD N 2 Kedisan was assigned as control group. The experimental group was taught by using scripted songs, while control group was taught by using conventional teaching. The data was obtained from post test then were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The result of data analysis showed that experimental group obtained better achievement in English competence than control group. It had been proven from the mean score of the experimental group was 86 while the mean score of control group was 66. Moreover, the result of the inferential statistics was found that the value of t observed (tobs) was 12.97 higher than the critical value of t (tcv) was 1.99 at 0.05 level significant. This proved that there was a significant difference in the students’ English competence which was taught by using scripted songs and conventional teaching. Abstract

Penelitian Experimen ini bertujuan untuk meneliti efek dari Lexical Collocation pada kemampuan membaca siswa. Untuk melakukan penelitian, 72 siswa telah dipilih sebagai sample. Mereka adalah siswa kelas X MIPA di SMAN 4 Singaraja. Kelompok siswa diberikan lotere, dan hasinya adalah siswa kelas X MIPA 2 terpilih sebagai kelompok Eksperiemen, dan X MIPA 3 sebagai kelompok kontrol. Metode yang digunakan adalah Posttest Only Control Group Design. KElompok Eksperimental diberikan perlakuan berupa Collocation dan kelompok kontrol diberikan perlakuan berupa metode pembelajaran konvensional. Di akhir penelitian, kedua kelompok diberikan post test. Post test yang diberikan berupa tes kemampuan membaca, yang berisi 20 buah test objektif. Data yang didapatkan dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Penelitian ini menggunakan hipotesis alternatif. Hasil dari t test yaitu t observasi lebih tinggi daripada t tabel dengan nilai 2.03, yaitu 5.14. Dari hasil ini, hipotesis nol ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif diterima. Hipotesis nol yang ditolak berarti ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan Lexical Collocation dan yang tidak.Kata Kunci : Lexical Collocation, Pembelajaran membaca konvensional, kemampuan membaca. This experimental research aimed at investigating the effect of Lexical Collocation on students’ reading comprehension achievement. To conduct the research, 72 students were selected as the samples. They were the tenth grade students of science major at SMAN 4 Singaraja. The group of students were given the lottery, and the result showed that the X MIPA 2 was experimental group and X MIPA 3 was the control group. The design used in this research was Post Test Only Control Group Design. The experimental group was given collocation as treatment and the control group was taught by using a conventional teaching method. At the end, both experimental and control groups were given the post test. The post test was a reading comprehension test, consist of 20 multiple choices. The data obtained by the post test were analyzed by using Descriptive and Inferential Statistic Analyses. This study used alternative hypothesis. The result of t test in which t observed was higher than t critical value 2.03 was 5.14. Based on the result, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The rejected null hypothesis means that there is significant difference on reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using collocation and who were not. keyword : Lexical Collocation, Conventional teaching reading, Reading comprehension

Abstract

penelitian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi morfem derivasi dan infleksi yang ada di Bahasa Jawa dialek Surakarta. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data-data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dengan metode wawancara dengan informan dan observasi. Dalam penelitian ini melibatkan tiga informan yang dipilih berdasarkan kriteria yang berlaku. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan ada lima morfem derivasi dan dua morfem infleksi yang ada dalam dialek Surakarta. Derivasi morfem yang ditemukan adalah {n-}, {n-/-i}, {n-/-ʌkɘn}, {dipUn-/-i} dan { dipun-/-ʌkɘn }, morfem infleksi adalah {dipun-} dan {-ipun}.Kata Kunci : morfem derivasi, morfem infleksi, dialek Surakarta The research is conducted to find out the derivational and inflectional morphemes existing in Javanese Surakarta dialect. The study was designed with descriptive method. The data observed in this study were obtained by interview the informants and observation. Three informants sample in this study were selected based on a number of criterias. The results of the study showed that there were five derivational morphemes and two inflectional morphemes in Surakarta dialect. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk menemukan apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan membaca siswa antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan NHT dan TPS. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap teknik NHT dan TPS. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa di kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Kubu di tahun akademik 2013/2014. Teknik Cluster Random Sampling digunakan untuk memilih sampel di mana kelas XI IPA 1 diajarkan dengan teknik TPS dan kelas XI IPA 3 diajarkan dengan teknik NHT. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Randomized Posttest-Only Two Group Design. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kelompok NHT adalah 78,23 dan nilai rata-rata kelompok TPS adalah 75,19. Ini berarti bahwa nilai rata-rata kelompok NHT lebih tinggi dari nilai rata-rata kelompok TPS. Kemudian, analisis inferensial yang menggunakan t-test menunjukkan to adalah 2,418. Ini melebihi tcv yang mencapai 2,00 (taraf signifikansi 5%). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pemahaman membaca siswa antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan NHT dan TPS. Selain itu, dari kuesioner yang diberikan kepada siswa menunjukkan bahwa 20 (66,7%) siswa memberikan respon yang sangat positif, dan 10 (33,3%) siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap teknik NHT. Sementara itu, 4 (12,5%) siswa memberikan respon yang sangat positif, 19 (59,4%) siswa memberikan respon positif, dan 9 (28,1%) siswa memberikan respon biasa saja terhadap teknik TPS.Kata Kunci : Kemampuan membaca, teknik NHT dan teknik TPS. This study was an experimental study which aimed at finding whether there was any significant difference in students’ reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using NHT and TPS. This study also aimed at knowing the students response toward NHT and TPS techniques. The population of this study was students at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Kubu in academic year 2013/2014. Cluster Random Sampling technique was administered to select sample in which class XI IPA 1 treated by TPS technique and class XI IPA 3 treated by NHT technique. The research design used was Randomized Posttest-Only Two Group Design. The result of descriptive analysis showed that the mean score of NHT group was 78.23 and then the mean score of TPS group was 75.19. It means that the mean score of NHT group was higher than the mean score of TPS group. Then, the inferential analysis which used t-test showed that to was 2.418. It exceeded the tcv which was 2.00 (significance level 5%). It indicated that there was a significant difference among the students’ reading comprehension between students taught by using NHT and TPS. In addition, the questionnaire that given to the students showed that 20 (66.7%) students gave very positive response, and 10 (33.3%) students gave positive response toward NHT technique. Meanwhile, 4 (12.5%) students gave very positive response, 19 (59.4%) students gave positive response, and 9 (28.1%) students gave moderate response toward TPS technique.keyword : Reading Comprehension, NHT technique and TPS technique

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisa jenis strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh politisi Indonesia di twitter. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan jenis strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh para politisi Indonesia sebagai tanggapan terhadap pertanyaan, dukungan atau kritik dari followers mereka di Twitter. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menggambarkan konteks situasi di mana jenis strategi tertentu digunakan oleh politisi Indonesia di Twitter. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis dua puluh tujuh tweets yang dikirim oleh tujuh politisi sebagai tanggapan terhadap pengikut mereka di Twitter. Data diunduh dari internet dan disimpan menggunakan aplikasi printscreen dan MS Word. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan dokumentasi. Strategi kesantunan dianalisis menurut teori kesantunan Brown dan Levinson (1987). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa politisi Indonesia menggunakan berbagai strategi kesantunan, termasuk penggunaan strategi positive politeness, strategi negative politeness dan strategi off-record. Mereka cenderung menggunakan strategi yang meminimalkan jarak dengan para pengikut mereka. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari penggunaan strategi didominasi oleh strategi positive politeness (74%). Sebagai perbandingan, penggunaan strategi off-record hanya 15% dan diikuti oleh strategi negative politeness (11%). Melihat konteks situasi, di mana latar komunikasi adalah di media yang bersifat publik (situs jejaring sosial) dan waktu komunikasi adalah selama masa kampanye pemilu legislatif dan presiden, politisi Indonesia tampaknya menggunakan strategi yang meminimalisir ‘jarak’ dengan pendengar. Ini mungkin saja disebakan karena mereka harus menjaga citra mereka di khalayak umum dan terlebih lagi mereka ingin lebih 'dekat' ke pendengar.Kata Kunci : Strategi kesantunan, Politisi Indonesia, Konteks situasi, Twitter. This study analyzes the types of politeness strategies used by Indonesian politicians on twitter. The purpose of this study is to reveal the types of politeness strategies used by the Indonesian politicians as the responses to the questions, supports or critiques from their followers on Twitter. Moreover, this study also describes the contexts of situations in which particular types of strategies are used by Indonesian politicians on Twitter. This study used descriptive qualitative approaches to analyze twenty seven tweets posted by seven politicians as the responses to their followers on Twitter. The data were downloaded from the internet and saved using ‘printscreen’ and MS Word application. The methods of data collection were observation and documentation. The politeness strategies were analyzed according to Brown and Levinson’s (1987) politeness theory. The findings show that Indonesian politician used various politeness strategies, including the use of positive politeness, negative politeness and off-record strategy. They tend to use the strategy that minimizes the distance with their followers. It can be seen from the use of strategy dominated by positive politeness (74%). As comparison, the use of off-record strategy was only 15% and followed by negative politeness (11%). Looking at the context of situation, where the setting was in public media (social networking site) and the time of the communication was during the campaign period of the legislative and president election, Indonesian politicians seem to use the strategies that minimize the distance with the hearer. It may because they have to maintain their image in public and moreover they want to ‘come closer’ to the hearer.keyword : Politeness strategies, Indonesian Politicians, Context of Situation, Twitter.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjenis deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk menganalisa kesalahan tatabahasa dalam berbicara yang dilakukan oleh tour guide di Lovina, Singaraja. Dalam penelitian ini, kesalahan tatabahasa difokuskan pada kesalahan tata bahasa yang dilakukan oleh tour guide pada saat berbicara. Data dikumpulkan melalui rekaman suara dari tour guide. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan terdapat sebanyak 95 kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh tour guide dalam berbicara. kesalahan tersebut antara lain sebanyak 46 (48,42%) verb form error, 15 (15,78%) article error, 5 (5,26%) subject-verb agreement error, 10 (10,52%) word order error, 8 (8,42%) noun error, 7 (7,36%) preposition error, 4 (4,21%) pronoun error, dari hasil tersebut terlihat verb form error merupakan kesalahan yang paling sering dilakukan oleh tour guide saat berbicara. Lebih jauh lagi, hasil penelitian juga menunjukan beberapa faktor penyebab terjadinya kesalahan dalam kemampuan berbicara tour guide berasal dari intralingua transfer, interlingua transfer dan context of learning. Secara khusus kesalahan tata bahasa tersebut dipengaruhi karena the tour guides’ first language, the incorrect translation, the avoidance committed by the tour guide, kurangnya pemahaman dalam bentuk tense dan latar belakang pendidikan secara informal.Kata Kunci : Grammar eror, berbicara, penyebab eror This study was a descriptive qualitative research, which aimed at analyzing the grammatical errors in speaking committed by the tour guides in Lovina, Singaraja. In this study, grammatical errors referred to the errors of using grammar committed by the tour guides in their speaking. This study also concerned with analyzing the factors which caused the grammatical error. The data were collected from the records of the tour guides’ speaking. The results showed that there were 95 errors found in the tour guides’ speaking. Those errors were 46 (48,42%) verb form errors, 15 (15,78%) article errors, 5 (5,26%) subject-verb agreement errors, 10 (10,52%) word order errors, 8 (8.42%) noun errors, 7 (7,36%) preposition errors, 4 (4,21%) pronoun errors in which the most committed error in the tour guides’ speaking was verb form error. Further, it was found the factors which caused grammatical errors came from intralingua transfer, interlingua transfer and context of learning. In specific, the tour guides’ errors were caused by the tour guides’ first language, the incorrect translation, the avoidance committed by the tour guide, misunderstanding of tense form and informal educational background. keyword : grammatical error, speaking, cause of error

Abstract

Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ( 1 ) jenis-jenis strategi umpan balik yang diberikan pada tulisan siswa di kelas Writing I tahun akademik 2013/2014, dan ( 2 ) sikap siswa terhadap strategi umpan balik yang diberikan pada tulisan siswa di kelas Writing I tahun akademik 2013/2014. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa Jurusan Pendidikan bahasa Inggris di kelas 2D dan 2H yang mengambil mata kuliah Writing I tahun akademik 2013/2014 yang berjumlah 56 siswa. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah sikap siswa terhadap strategi umpan balik yang digunakan oleh dosen di kelas Writing I. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, angket/kuesioner, wawancara, dan data yang yang sudah dikumpulkan dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, (1) jenis-jenis strategi umpan balik yang digunakan di kelas Writing I adalah Conferencing and Teacher’s Comment; (2) siswa menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap strategi umpan balik di kelas Writing I. Ini dibuktikan dengan tingginya skor skiap siswa terhadap strategi umpan balik.Kata Kunci : sikap, strategi umpan balik, menulis This Descriptive Qualitative research aims to find out (1) the kinds of feedback strategy given on the students’ writing in Writing I Class in the academic year of 2013/2014, and (2) the students’ attitude towards the feedback strategy given on students’ writing in Writing I Class in the academic year of 2013/2014. The subject of this study were the students of English Education Department in class 2D and 2H who study Writing I in academic year 2013/2014 which are 56 students in total. The object of this research was the students’ attitudes toward the feedback strategies used by the Lecturer in Writing I class. The data collection methods used in this study were observation, questionnaires, interview, and the data collected were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that, (1) the kinds of feedback strategies which were used in Writing I class were conferencing and teacher’s comment; (2) the students showed positive attitudes toward the feedback strategies in Writing I class. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan kosa kata dan tata bahasa yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja tahun akademik 2013/2014 dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada dua kategori kesalahan pada tulisan siswa. Pada kategori pertama, jumlah kesalahan yang ditemukan adalah 465. Kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut adalah kesalahan ejaan, kesalahan pemilihan kata, kesalahan kata penghubung, kesalahan kata jamak, kesalahan subjek-kata kerja, kesalahan susunan kata, kesalahan bentuk kata kerja, kesalahan artikel, kesalahan kata ganti, dan kesalahan kata depan. Sementara itu, jumlah kesalahan yang ditemukan pada kategori kedua adalah 359. Kesalahan tersebut adalah penghilangan to be, penghilangan artikel, penghilangan kata depan, penghilangan kata penghubung, penghilangan penanda kepemilikan, penghilangan penanda kata jamak, menandai ganda, penyamaan bentuk, penambahan sederhana, kesalahan bentuk, dan kesalahan susunan kata. Selain itu, hasil analisis juga menemukan bahwa kesalahan - kesalahan siswa tersebut disebabkan oleh kecerobohan siswa, penyamarataan aturan yang berlebihan, salah menerjemahkan, penghidaran aturan, pembelajaran yang kurang dan konsep hipotesis yang salah dari siswa.Kata Kunci : deskriptif teks, kesalahan kosa kata dan tata bahasa, penyebab-penyebab kesalahan This study aimed at analyzing the lexico - grammatical errors committed by the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja in the academic year 2013/2014 in writing descriptive text. The result revealed that there were two categories of error found in the students’ writings. In the first category, the total of error found was 465. Those errors were spelling errors, diction error, conjunction error, pluralization error, subject-verb agreement error, word order error, verb error, article error, pronoun error and preposition error. Meanwhile, the total error of the second category was 359. Those errors were omission of to be/copular verb, omission of article, omission of preposition, omission of conjunction, omission of possessiveness, omission of plural maker, double marking, regularization, simple addition, misformation and misordering. In addition, it was also found that the students’ errors were caused by the students’ carelessness, the over-generalization of the rules, the incorrect translation, the avoidance of the rules, the inadequate learning, and the false concept hypothesized.keyword : causes of error, descriptive text, lexico - grammatical error

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the effect of clustering technique on students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph. The population was the tenth grade students in SMA N 3 Singaraja which was consisted of 320 students. Cluster random sampling was used to choose the experimental group and control group. The design of this study was a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The result of the treatment was identified through post-test which was given at the end of the treatment to see the significant difference between the experimental groups who had been treated using clustering technique and the control group who had been treated using the conventional teaching technique. The findings of the study showed that the mean score for experimental group was 79.45 and the mean score for the control group was 71.80. The result of t-test reveals that t¬obs 6.292 was higher than the value of tcv at 2.58 at level significance 0.01. This means that the null hypothesis is rejected. Abstract

PPenelitian descriptive qualitative ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa alih code (code switching) yang digunakan oleh seorang guru sebagai sebuah teknik mengajar Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing di kelas X IS4 SMA Negeri 1 Negara tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah seorang guru Bahasa Inggris wanita yang mengajar kelas X IS4. Peneliatian ini adalah peneliatian deskriptif qualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rekaman MP3, catatan dan lembar observasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan ada tiga tipe alih code (code switching) yang digunakan oleh guru yaitu intra-sentential code-switching (42,7%), inter-sentential code switching (25,7%), and inter-personal code switching (31,6%). Ada tiga fungsi dari alih kode (code switching) yang digunakan oleh guru yaitu menekankan(60,2%), menginstruksi (1,2%), mengklarifikasi(19,3%), fungsi sociolinguistik (1,2%), dan mendapatkan perhatian (18,1%). Alasan penggunaan alih code (code switching) yaitu untuk mendapatkan perhatian siswa, membuat lelucon, menjelaskan konsep, memberikan instruksi, membuat konsep dengan siswa.Kata Kunci : Alih Kode, Tipe Alih Kode, Fungsi Alih Kode, Alasan Alih Kode, Bahasa Inggris Sebagai Bahasa Asing This descriptive qualitative study aimed at analyzing code switching used by a teacher as a technique of Teaching English as a Foreign Language in class X IS4 of SMA Negeri 1 Negara in the academic year 2013/2014. The subject of this study was a female English teacher of class X IS4. This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The instruments used in this study were MP3 recorder, a field note and an observation sheet. The result of this study showed that there were three types of code switching used by the teacher. They were intra-sentential code-switching (42.7%), inter-sentential code switching (25.7%), and inter-personal code switching (31.6%). There was five functions of code switching used by teacher, that are emphasis function (60.2%), instruction function (1.2%), clarification function (19.3%), Sociolinguistic play function (1.2%) and attention function (18.1%) .
