Abstract

Penelitian eksperimental ini bertujuan menyelidiki efek dari menggunakan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek pada kemapuan menulis. Untuk mengelola penelitian ini, 141 siswa kelas VIII dari SMP Negeri 4 Seririt pada tahun akademik 2015/2016 yang dipilih untuk menjadi sampel. Desain kelompok kontrol posttest-only diimplementasikan dalam percobaan ini yang berlangsung dari 24 agustus 2015 hingga 28 September 2015. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan menulis antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek dan yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode konvensi. Hal itu diketahui dari nilai probabilitas atau Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 yang lebih rendah dari 0,05. Rerata siswa kemampuan menulis diajarkan oleh Project Based Learning (69.22) lebih tinggi dari rata-rata siswa kemampuan berbicara diajarkan dengan metode konvensional (60,57). Ini berarti bahwa Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek mempengaruhi lebih baik daripada metode konvensional terhadap prestasi berbicara siswa Kata Kunci : Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek, Kemampuan Menulis This experimental study aims at investigating the effect of using Project Based Learning on the Writing Competency. To administer this research, 141 eigth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Seririt in the academic year 2015/2016 were selected to be the sample. Posttest-only control group design was implemented in this experiment which lasted from 24 august 2015 until 28 September 2015. This research discovers that there was a significant difference in writing competency between the students taught by using Project Based Learning and those taught by using conventional method. It was known from the probability value or Sig.(2-tailed) of 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. The mean of the students’ writing competency taught by Project Based Learning (69.22) is higher than the mean of the students’ writing competency taught by conventional method (60.57). It means that Project Based Learning gives better effect on students’ writing competency than conventional method. keyword : Project Based Learning, Writing competency.

Abstract

This research aims at investigating (1) the contribution of students’ self-efficacy toward students’ speaking achievement, (2) the contribution of students’ anxiety toward students’ speaking achievement, and (3) the contribution of students’ self-efficacy and anxiety toward students’ speaking achievement at eighth grade students in SMP N 1 Denpasar. This research used ex-post facto research design. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Denpasar. 75 students were selected as sample of this research by using simple random sampling technique. The data were collected by employing Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale, and Speaking Documentation. The data showed that the students’ self-efficacy, anxiety, and speaking achievement are categorized in the moderate level. The collected data were analyzed by using simple and multiple regression. The result of analysis showed that: (1) there is contribution of students’ self-efficacy toward students’ speaking achievement at 53.1%, (2) there is contribution of students’ anxiety toward students’ speaking achievement at 9.8%, and (3) there is contribution of students’ self-efficacy and anxiety toward students’ speaking achievement at 56.2%. In detail, the effective contribution of self-efficacy is 50.27% and effective contribution anxiety is 5.92% toward students’ speaking achievement.keyword : Anxiety, Self-Efficacy, and Speaking Achievement

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa dan menemukan halangan-halangan yang ditemukan pada teknik S.E.R.T (Self-Explanation Reading Technique) di kelas x-1 SMA N 1 Sukasada tahun ajaran 2014/2015, khususnya menemukan ide utama pada teks, informasi spesifik, kata serapan dan makna kata melalui penerapan teknik S.E.R.T. penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas X-1 SMA N 1 S ukasada yang terdiri dari 18 jumlah siswa; 8 di antaranya 8 laki-laki dan 10 perempuan. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas, yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdapat tiga sesi yang terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Data didapatkan dalam bentuk kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil data menunjukkan bahwa S.E.R.T sangat efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa. Setelah kedua siklus dilakukan dengan menggunakan S.E.R.T, terlihat adanya peningkatan pencapaian siswa dari hasil observasi awal pada siklus I dan siklus II. Sementara itu, ada beberapa halangan yang didapat saat menerapkan teknik S.E.R.T seperti waktu yang terbatas, siswa yang tidak focus maupun tidak memperhatikan penjelasan guru, dan peneliti sangat susah dalam mencari materi teks membaca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa S.E.R.T efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa kelas X SMA N 1 Sukasada pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Selanjutnya berdasarkan halangan yang ditemukan peneliti harus lebih memperhatikan perilaku siswa dan mengawasi siswa saat mereka mengerjakan tugas dari peneliti. Kata Kunci : kemampuan membaca, S.E.R.T The objectives of this study were to improve the students’ reading competency and to find out obstacles in implementation of S.E.R.T (Self-Explanation Reading Technique) in X-1 class SMA N 1 Sukasada in the academic year 2014/2015, specifically in finding main idea of texts, specific information, textual reference, and word meaning through the implementation of S.E.R.T. This study was conducted at X-1 class of SMA N 1 Sukasada which consisted of 18 students; 8 were males and 10 were females. Classroom action research was the design of this study, which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three sessions and involved planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data were obtained in qualitative and quantitative forms. The results of the data show that S.E.R.T was effective to improve the students’ reading competency. After two cycles were conducted by using S.E.R.T, there was an improvement of the students’ achievement from the result of pre-observation to the action of cycle I and cycle II. Meanwhile, there were some obstacles found in implementing S.E.R.T such as the limitation of time, students did not focus nor paid attention to the teacher’s explanation, and the researcher was difficult to find reading text material. Based on the result of the study, it was concluded that S.E.R.T was effective to improve the reading competency of the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Sukasada in academic year 2014/2015. Moreover, based on above obstacles the researcher should be more noticed on students’ attitude and monitor the students while they work on their activity which given by the researcher.keyword : reading competency, S.E.R.T

Abstract

Penelitian ini tergolong penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas sepuluh di Canggu Community School (CCS). Subjek penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa dari kelas Simon Baccanello (SB). Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Brown and Levinson sebagai landasan teori utama. Dari 20 siswa kelas sepuluh, 36% siswa setuju menggunakan strategi bald on record, 40% setuju menggunakan strategi kesopanan positif, 26% setuju menggunakan strategi kesopanan negatif, 21% setuju menggunakan strategi off record dan hanya 5% dari 20 siswa yang mengatakan setuju menggunakan strategi don’t do FTA. Dari transkrip data yang diperoleh, terdapat 173 ungkapan berbeda yang digunakan oleh siswa. Dari keseluruhan ungkapan tersebut, 52% termasuk dalam strategi kesopanan positif. Strategi strategi ini mereka gunakan untuk menyampaikan keluhan mereka secara halus, menunjukkan kedekatan hubungan satu sama lain, menunjukkan kemarahan dan membuat pendengar mengerti apa yang mereka rasakan, menunjukkan ketertarikan atau ketidaktertarikan terhadap pelajaran tersebut dan meunjukkan ketodakpuasan atas jawaban yang diberikan. Kata Kunci : siswa kelas sepuluh, kesopanan, tujuan This study was a descriptive qualitative research which is aimed at describing politeness strategy used the by tenth grade students of Canggu Community School (CCS). The subjects of this study were 20 students from Simon Baccanello (SB) class. This study used theory of Brown and Levinson as grand theory. The research instruments were human instrument, voice recorders, questionnaire, note taking and observation sheet. Form 20 students of the tenth grade, 36 % agreed to use bald on record strategy, 40% agreed to use positive politeness strategy, 26% agreed to use negative politeness strategy, 21% agreed to use off record strategy, and only 5% agreed to use don’t do Face Threatening Act (FTA) strategy. It was also supported by the result of data transcription which were 173 utterances found. From those utterances, 52% were categorized as positive politeness strategy. Those strategies were used for the following purposes, such as: expressing complains softly, showing close relationship, showing anger and made the hearer understood what the speaker felt, showing their interest or not in the lesson, showing their satisfaction to the answer. keyword : tenth grade students, politeness, purposes

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari Video- Group Discussion pada kemempuan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa kelas delapan. Posttest- Only Control Group digunakan sebagai desain penelitian penelitian ini. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 370 siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Sawan tahun akademik 2015/2016. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik sampel random atau acak, Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari Video –based Group Discussion tentang pemahaman mendengarkan siswa kelas delapan (tobs = -6,712, sig. 0.000). Siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan Video-based Group Discussion lebih baik dalam pemahaman mendengarkan.Kata Kunci : Pemahaman mendengarkan, Video-based Group Discussion This study aimed to investigate whether there was a significance effect of Video- based Group Discussion on listening comprehension of eighth grade students. Post-test Only Control Group was used as research design of this research. The population of this study was 370 the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sawan academic year 2015/2016. The sample of this study was 60 students selected by random sampling. The result of analysis showed that there is significant effect of Video-based Group Discussion on listening comprehension of eighth grade students (tobs=-6.712, significance 0.000). Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas 8 di SMP N 4 Singaraja dengan menggunakan strategi DRTA. Observasi awal menunjukkan bahwa murid kelas VIIIB3 memiliki kompetensi yang rendah dalam pemahaman membaca. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah 36 siswa. Untuk menemukan hasil dari pelaksanaan strategi DRTA terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa, peneliti menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) sebagai metode penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini, ada dua cycle yang dilaksanakan dalam kelas. Setiap cycle terdiri dari empat aktivitas, yaitu perencanaan, aksi, observasi, dan refleksi. Untuk mendapatkan dan menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan hasil dari observasi awal, evaluasi dari cycle I dan II, buku harian peneliti, dan kuesioner. Respon siswa bagus terhadap strategi ini. Mereka mengatakan bahwa mereka menyukai kelas membaca karena strategi ini membantu mereka dalam mengetahui konten teks. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi DRTA mampu meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hasil dari tes mean siswa bisa dijelaskan sebagai berikut: Dalam pre-observasi, skor mean siswa adalah 69.28. Dalam cycle I, skor mean dari siswa meningkat menjadi 75.22. Setelah cycle I dilakukan, skor mean siswa meningkat lagi menjadi 84.06. Dari hasil tersebut, bisa disimpulkan bahwa pelaksanaan strategi Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) bisa meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIIIB3 di SMP N 4 Singaraja. Kata Kunci : Kata Kunci: Membaca, pemahaman membaca, strategi DRTA This study was conducted in order to improve the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 4 Singaraja by using DRTA strategy. The preliminary observation showed that students of VIIIB3 had low competency in reading comprehension. The subjects of this study were 36 students. In order to find out the result of the implementation of DRTA strategy toward students’ reading comprehension, the researcher used classroom action research (CAR) as the research method. In this study, there were two cycles conducted in classroom. Each cycle consisted of four activities, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. To obtain and also analyze the data, the researcher used the result of pre-observation, evaluation in cycle I and II, researcher’s diary, and questionnaire. The students’ responses were good toward this strategy. They stated that they liked in having reading class because this strategy helped them in understanding the content of texts. This study showed that the use of DRTA strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension. The result of the mean test of students can be stated as follows: In pre-observation, the students’ mean score was 69.28. In cycle I, the mean score of the students increased into 75.22. After the second cycle had been conducted, the students’ mean score increased again into 84.06. From the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy could improve reading competency of VIIIB3 students in SMP N 4 Singaraja.keyword : Reading, reading comprehension, DRTA strategy

Abstract

Guru dan strategi mengajar merupakan alasan utama dari kesuksesan pembelajaran. Namun, hanya ada sedikit penelitian yang menjelaskan mengenai strategi mengajar di sekolah luar biasa, maka hal tersebut menjadi fenomena utama dari penelitian ini.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan praktik pendidikan khusus terutama dalam hal strategi pengajaran yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris dari siswa tunarungu serta kurang dengar (DHH) kelas 10 yang belajar di Sekolah Menengah Atas Luar Biasa untuk siswa tunarungu. Studi ini diaksanakan di SLB B Singaraja, Bali dimana siswa-siswa tunarungu mendapat pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif yang hasilnya tergambarkan dari analisis pengamatan dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi-strategi mengajar yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran in SLB B Singaraja adalah strategi Pembelajaran Langsung, Diskusi Kelas, Problem Solving, dan Tutor Sebaya. Kata Kunci : Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing, Strategi Pengajaran, Tunarungu, Kurang Pendengaran Teacher and teaching strategies are the major cause of success in learning. However, there is only a few research that describes teaching strategies in special school, and thus it becomes the central phenomenon of this study. The purpose of this study is to describe the special education practice particularly in terms of the teaching strategies used by the English teacher of 10th grade Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) students who undergo Senior High School in special school for DHH students. The study was conducted in SLB B Singaraja, Bali where Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students have English subject. This study used a qualitative design whose the results reflect analysis of observations and interview. The result of the study revealed that the teaching strategies used in SLB B Singaraja by the teacher who was under study were Direct Instruction, Class Discussion, Problem Solving, and Peer Tutoring Strategy. keyword : Teaching English as Foreign Language, Teaching Strategy, Deaf, Hard of Hearing

Abstract

This study was a descriptive qualitative research which aimed at analyzing the grammatical error and the source of grammatical errors in writing a recount text. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Tejakula. The data were presented in the descriptive analysis way and the procedure of the error analysis used according to Dulay et al (1982). The result of the study the highest errors made by the students were in the errors of selection consisting of 172 errors or 71.4%. It was followed by the errors of omission consisting of 48 errors or 19.9%. Then, it was followed by the errors of addition consisting of 14 errors or 5.8% and the lowest errors were the errors of ordering consisting of 7 errors or 2.9%. The data also indicated that the inter-lingual transfer was the highest source of the errors. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the error of selection is the highest error made by the students and inter-lingual transfer is the highest source of error because it was caused by the mother tongue interference. Kata Kunci : Error analysis, simple past tense, recount text Penelitian ini adalah deskriptif qualitative yang bertujuan untuk menganalis kesalahan grammar dan sumber kesalahan dalam menulis teks recount. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 8 SMP N 1 Tejakula. Data disajikan dengan cara deskriptif analisis dan langkah-langkah yang digunakan untuk menganalisis kesalahan adalah teori dari Dulay et al (1982). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukakan bahwa kesalahan tertinggi yang dibuat oleh siswa adalah kesalahan selection yaitu 172 kesalahan atau 71,4 persen. Diikuti oleh kesalahan omission yaitu 48 kesalahan atau 19,9 persen. Kemudian diikuti oleh kesalahan addition yaitu 14 kesalahan atau 5,8 persen. Dan kesalahan yang paling sedikit adalah kesalaan ordering yaitu 7 kesalahan atau 2,9 persen. Data ini juga menunjukkan bahwa Inter-lingual transfer adalah sumber kesalahan tertinggi. Dari hasil di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa kesalahan selection adalah kesalahan yang paling tinggi dibuat oleh siswa dan inter-lingual transfer adalah sumber kesalahan tertinggi karena disebabkan pengaruh dari bahasa ibu.keyword : analisis kesalahan, simpe past tense, teks recount

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah jenis penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) menemukan jenis-jenis teknologi apa saja yang telah digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris dan siswa sekolah menengah di Banyuwangi, 2) menemukan sikap guru bahasa Inggris dan siswa sekolah menengah terhadap pelaksanaan TIK dalam pembelajaran bahasa, 3) untuk menemukan manfaat yang dirasakan guru dan siswa dan juga hambatan yang dihadapi guru dan siswa dalam pelaksanaan TIK dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah 100 orang siswa sekolah menengah dan 5 orang guru bahasa Inggris di kabupaten Banyuwangi. Kuesioner tertutup dan interview adalah instrumen yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data. Data yang telah dikumpulkan kemudian disajikan dalam bentuk tabel hasil dan transkrip wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah 1) siswa dan guru telah melaksanakan berbagai jenis teknologi, baik itu yang berbasis web maupun yang tidak berbasis web, namun teknologi berbasis web belum begitu sering digunakan, 2) secara keseluruhan guru dan siswa menunjukan sikap positif terhadap pelaksanaan TIK dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris karena mereka merasa bahwa TIK memberikan manfaat yang nyata dalam pembelajaran, 3) TIK sangat bermanfaat bagi siswa dan guru sebagai alat untuk pembelajaran yang lebih baik; hambatan seperti akses yang terbatas, kurangnya pelatihan dan kurangnya waktu merupakan hambatan yang paling sering dihadapi. Mengingat ada berbagai jenis teknologi, guru dan siswa sebaiknya menggali lebih dalam penggunaanya untuk mendapatkan manfaat yang lebih nyata. Akan lebih baik jika pihak sekolah dan pemerintah memfasilitasi guru dan siswa dengan menyediakan akses dan sumber lebih baik lagi.Kata Kunci : TIK, sikap, TEFL This research was a descriptive quantitative research. It was aimed to 1) find out what types of technology used by English teachers and high school students in Banyuwangi, 2) find out the attitude of English teachers and high school students toward the implementation of ICT in language learning, and 3) find out the benefits that students and teachers felt and also the barriers that teachers and students faced in the implementation of ICT in language learning. The subjects of this research were 100 high school students and 5 English teachers in Banyuwangi regency. In collecting the data, close-ended questionnaires and interviews were used. The data collected was displayed in the form of table and interview transcript. The results of this study are 1) teachers and students have implement various types of technology, both the web-based and non web-based, but the web-based has not used often, 2) overall teachers and students show positive attitude toward the implementation of ICT in language learning; they feel that ICT give obvious benefits in teaching and learning, and 3) ICT is so beneficial for students and teachers as the tools for better learning; the barriers such as the limited facilities, the lack of training and the limited time allotment are the most common problems for them. Since there are so many types of technologies, teachers and students can consider exploring it to get more benefits of ICT. It would be better if schools and governments facilitate teachers and students by providing more access, and sources.keyword : ICT, Attitude, TEFL

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kompetensi menulis pada siswa kelas VIII yang diajar menggunakan penilaian Portofolio dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan penilaian sejawat. Post-test Only Control Group digunakan sebagai desain penelitian ini. Populasi penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Sawan. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa yang dipilih sebagai sampel dengan menggunakan teknik sampel random atau acak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kompetensi menulis siswa kelas VIII yang diajar menggunakan Penilaian Portofolio dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan Peilaian sejawat, (tobs=2.048, Sig. 0.045) dimana siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan penilaian Portofolio lebih baik pada kompetensi menulis. Ini berarti terdapat efek yang signifikan dari penggunaan portofolio Assessment pada kompetensi menulis siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Sawan tahun ajaran 2015/2016Kata Kunci : Penilaian Sejawat, Penilaian Portofolio, Kompetensi Menulis This study aimed to investigate whether there was a significant difference between the eighth grade students’ writing competency that were taught by using Portfolio Assessment and those who were taught by using Peer Assessment. Post-test Only Control Group was used as design of this research. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sawan. The sample of this study was 60 students that were selected through random sampling. The result of analysis showed that there was significant difference on writing competency between students who were taught using Portfolio Assessment and those who were taught using Group Disscussion, (tobs=2.048, significance 0.045) in which students who were taught using Portfolio Assessment only achieved better in writing competency. It means that there was a significant effect of using Portfolio assessment on the eighth grade students’ writing competency at SMP Negeri 3 Sawan in academic year 2015/2016.keyword : Peer Assessment, Portfolio Assessment, writing competency
