Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan jenis-jenis strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh guru dan siswa di dalam interaksi kelas, bagaimana strategi tersebut diwujudkan dalam tindakan dalam interaksi kelas dan fungsi pedagogik dari strategi kesopanan. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa yang dimana menggunakan strategi kesopanan sebanyak dua belas siswa dan satu guru dalam proses belajar dan mengajar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Data yang dikmpulkan mealui observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi yang digunakan ialah: 1) bald on record sebagai dominan dalam strategi kesopnan karena memiliki hubungan yang dekat antara guru dan siswa. 2) Siswa menggunakan kesopanan positif karena mereka bertemu guru untuk pertama kalinya guru menunjukkan rasa hormat kepada guru. 3) Kesopanan negatif digunakan oleh siswa kelas sebelas yang memiliki jarak sosial atau saat mereka canggung. 4) Off record digunakan oleh siswa untuk berbicara dengan guru saat makna ucapan disampaikan secara implisit Ada empat fungsi pedagogik dalam strategi kesopanan yaitu memberikan jarak antar guru dan siswa, suasana di dalam kelas, mengurangi ketegangan siswa, dan membuat interaksi social antara guru dan siswa.Kata Kunci : strategi kesopanan, kelas interaksi, dan funsi pedagogik This study aimed to explain the types of politeness strategy used by the teacher-students in classroom interaction, how the politeness strategies realized in classroom interaction and the pedagogical function of politeness strategies. The subject of this study was as many as twelve students and one teacher who used in politeness strategies. This study was qualitative study. The data were collected through observation and interview. The findings of the study showed the followings: 1) Bald on record became dominant types of politeness strategies and it was close enough to their teacher to talk baldly in teaching and learning process. 2) The students used positive politeness because they met the teacher for the first time the teacher to show the respect to the teacher. 3) Negative politeness was used by the eleventh grade students that had some social distance or when they were awkward. 4) Off record strategy was used by the students to talk to the teacher when the meaning of the utterances was told implicitly. There were four pedagogical functions of politeness strategies, namely the social distance between teacher-students, maintaining the general atmosphere of teaching and learning process, reducing stress (tension reduction), and creating teacher-students social interaction.keyword : Politeness strategy, classroom interaction, and pedagogical function

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menganalisis keterlibatan orang tua siswa di TK Tri Amerta Anturan Singaraja dalam upaya mengembangkan kesiapan membaca anak dengan cara membacakan buku cerita. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganasilis buku cerita yang paling sering dibacakan oleh orang tua kepada anaknya, cara orang tua terlibat dan bersikap saat membacakan buku cerita serta hambatan-hambatan saat orang tua membacakan buku cerita kepada anak. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 36 orang tua dari siswa TK Tri Amerta Anturan Singaraja serta orang tua siswa dengan kategori pendidikan minimal strata satu. Metode yang digunakan dari penelitian ini yaitu deskritif qualitatif yang terdiri dari checklist, kuesioner, dan wawancara. Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tipe buku cerita yang paling sering dibacakan oleh orang tua siswa adalah dongeng serta bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa pengantar. Selain itu, keterlibatan atau sikap orang tua saat membacakan cerita tergolong sedang, yang bermakna orang tua sudah membacakan cerita tanpa atau belum melibatkan anak serta penjelasan yang dalam. Terdapat 5 hambatan yang paling terjadi saat membacakan cerita yaitu anak mudah bosan, sulit bekonsentrasi dan fokus, banyak berbicara/bertanya/menebak-nebak cerita, orang tua susah mentrasfer kata-kata sulit serta mengulang-ngulang cerita.Kata Kunci : keterlibatan orang tua, buku cerita This research was conducted to analyze the parental involvement to develop children reading readiness through story reading at TK Tri Amerta Anturan Singaraja.The purpose were to analyze the type of story books that commonly read by parents, the way parents behave in the involvement with their children during reading the storybooks and the obstacle faced by the parents during story reading. The subjects of the study were 36 parents who own children study in TK Tri Amerta Singaraja and has minimum under graduated education background. This research was a descriptive qualitative research which was utilizing checklist, questionnaires and interview guide. The findings of the research showed the type of storybook that commonly read by the parents was tale or fairytale storybook with Bahasa Indonesia as the language use. Then, the way parents behave in reading the storybook categorized as “moderate” which means, parents just read the storybook without deep explanation and involvement with the children. In the obstacles, there were 5 obsctales that mostly happened to the parents namely children were bored, difficult to concentrate or focus, talking/asking too much/guessing the plot of the story and parents have dfficulty in trasfering the meaning of difficult vocabularies as well as repeating the story. keyword : parents involvement, storybook

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan procedure dalam upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa, (2) menyelidiki jenis komunikasi strategi yang digunakan oleh perwakilan dari penganten laki-laki, perwakilan dari penganten wanita dan Prajuru dalam upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa (3) menemukan alasan dari prajuru tentang tradisi upacara pernikahan di Desa Lokapaksa. Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian kualitatif. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat orang yang terlibat dalam proses pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa. Ada tiga prosedur upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa yaitu: Mesadok bertemu orang tua pengantin laki-laki dan orang tua mempelai wanita di rumah pengantin wanita, Memadik / Ngidih melamar pengantin wanita kerumah pengantin pria dan Melaku adalah prosedur terakhir upacara pernikahan Ngidih dan ada tiga langkah yaitu: pebiayakala, natab, dan mepamit. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada enam jenis strategi komunikas yaitu, approximation, circumlocution,language switching,appeal for assistance, use of nonlingustic and use of fillers.Kata Kunci : Komunikasi strategi, upacara pernikahan Ngidih. This study aimed at (1) describing the procedures in Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village; (2) investigating the types of communication strategies used by groom’s delegation, bride’s delegation, the head of village and prajuru in Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village; and (3) finding tradition of wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village. This study was designed in the form of qualitative research. The subjects of this study were ten people who were involved Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village. there were three procedures of Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village which were included: Mesadok the meeting of the groom’s parents and the bride’s parents at the bride’s house, Memadik/Ngidih propose the bride to the groom’s house and Melaku was the last procedure of Ngidih wedding ceremony and there were three steps namely: pebiayakala, natab, and mepamit. Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif mengenai analisis morfologi dialek Bali yang digunakan oleh warga desa Pemuteran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan prefiks infleksi dan akhiran dan awalan dan akhiran derivatif dalam dialek Pemuteran. Ada tiga domain yang dipilih. Yang pertama adalah keluarga, kedua adalah pertemanan dan yang ketiga adalah lingkungan sekitar. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan tiga teknik, yaitu teknik observasi, teknik perekaman, dan teknik wawancara (listening and noting). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 2 jenis awalan {ma-} dan {jenis} dan akhiran akhir {-ang} yang termasuk morfem derivatif. Selain itu, ada 2 macam awalan dalam dialek Pemuteran yaitu awalan {n-}, {dan} dan {a-} dan ada 4 macam sufiks {-ne}, {-in}, {- an}, dan { -e} yang termasuk morfem infleksi. Apalagi ada 4 item proses singkatan yang ditemukan dalam dialek Pemuteran.Kata Kunci : Proses morfologi, Dialek Bali, Pemuteran This is a qualitative research concerning the morphological analysis of Balinese dialect used by Pemuteran villagers. The study aimed at describing inflectional prefix and suffix and derivational prefix and suffix in Pemuteran dialect. There were three domains chosen. The first was family, second was friendship and third was neighborhood. The data were collected based on three techniques, namely: observation, recording technique, and interview (listening and noting) technique. The results of the study show that there were 2 kinds of prefix {ma-} and {pe-} and 1 kind of suffix {-ang} which belong to derivational morpheme. Besides, there were 2 kinds prefix in Pemuteran dialect namely prefix {n-}, {me-} and {a-} and there were 4 kinds of suffix {-ne}, {-in},{-an}, and {-e} which belong to inflectional morpheme. Moreover, there were 4 item of abbreviation processes found in Pemuteran dialect.keyword : Morphological process, Balinese Dialect, Pemuteran Villagers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang berusaha menemukan jenis-jenis slang dan mengamati fungsi-fungsi slang yang digunakan dalam film "Step Up: All In". Teori dari Allan dan Burridge (2006) tentang jeni-jenis slang dan teori dari Hymes tentang etnografi berbicara digunakan sebagai pedoman. Sehubungan dengan tujuan pertama, ada empat jenis-jenis slang yang ditemukan dalam film ini, yaitu fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, dan clipping. Penggunaan imitative mendominasi jenis slang yang digunakan pada film ini, dikarenakan pembicara tidak memerlukan pengetahuan tertentu dan dapat membuat slang jenis ini dengan mudah dengan meniru kata-kata yang sudah ada dan menyederhanakannya. Merujuk pada tujuan kedua, ada enam fungsi-fungsi slang yang ditemukan dalam film ini, yaitu to address, to form intimate atmosphere, to initiate relax conversation, to show impression, to show intimacy, dan to humiliate. Adapun, fungsi yang memiliki frekuensi paling tinggi adalah to address dan to initiate relax conversation. Dalam situasi informal, orang cederung menggunakan kata-kata slang untuk menciptakan suasana yang lebih santai dimana percakapan mereka dapat berjalan dengan lancar. Tujuan dari menggunakan kedua fungsi ini adalah untuk menjaga hubungan dekat mereka. Sebagai hasil, kedua fungsi ini dominan digunakan oleh karakter dalam film ini. Kata Kunci : deskriptif analisis, kata-kata slang, film This research is a descriptive qualitative research which attempts to find out slang types and observe slang functions used in “Step Up: All In” movie. The theory from Allan and Burridge (2006) about slang types and the theory from Hymes (1989) about ethnography of speaking were used as guidelines. Regarding to the first objective, there are four types of slang found in this movie, such as fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, and clipping. The occurrence of imitative dominates the slang type used in this movie, since the speakers do not require certain knowledge and can make this slang type easily by imitating the existing words and simplifying them. Referring to the second objective, there are six functions of slang discovered in this movie, such as to address, to form intimate atmosphere, to initiate relax conversation, to show impression, to show intimacy, and to humiliate. Therefore, the functions which have high frequency are to address and to initiate relax conversation. In informal situation, people tend to use certain kinds of addresses in addressing their close friends and use slang words since they want to create relax condition in which their conversation can run smoothly. The purpose of using these two functions is to maintain their close relationship. As a result these two functions are dominantly used by the characters in this movie.keyword : descriptive analysis, slang words, movie

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen yang menginvestigasi perbedaan signifikan dalam kompetensi menulis siswa dengan membandingkan kelas dengan strategi DEFENDS dan kelas dengan strategi PLEASE. Untuk bisa menjalankan penelitian ini, siswa kelas 7 di SMPN 2 Singaraja dipilih untuk digunakan sebagai sample. 2 kelas diberikan perlakuan yang berbeda dengan mengimplementasikan DEFENDS and PLEASE strategy. Pre Test dan Post Test Non Group Design diimplementasikan dalam penelitian ini. Data mengenai kompetensi menulis siswa dikumpulkan melalui post test. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam hal kompetensi mengajar antara murid yang diajar dengan strategi DEFENDS dan kelas yang diajar dengan strategi PLEASE. Ini dapat dilihat dari Sig (2-tailed) yang dibawah 0.05 yang berarti kompetensi menulis siswa dengan strategi DEFENDS (76.35) lebih tinggi dari strategi PLEASE (70.27). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi DEFENDS lebih efektif digunakan dalam mengajar menulis, kususnya dalam menulis teks deskripsi. Kata Kunci : Strategi DEFENDS, Strategy PLEASE, Kemampuan Menulis This study was an experimental study investigated the significant difference in writing competency between the students taught by using DEFENDS and PLEASE strategies. To conduct this research the seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Singaraja in the academic year 2017/2018 were selected to be sample. Two classes were treated differently by implementing DEFENDS and PLEASE strategies. Pre Test-Post Test Non Control Group Design was implemented in this experiment. The data of students’ writing competency were collected by using post test. This research discovers that there is a significant difference in writing competency between the students’ taught by using DEFENDS strategy and those taught by PLEASE strategy. It is known from the probability value or Sig.(2-tailed) of 0.000 which is lower than 0.05. The mean score of the students writing competency taught by DEFENDS strategy (76.35) was higher than the mean score of the students writing competency (taught by using PLEASE strategy (70.27). This finding demonstrating that DEFENDS strategy is more effective for teaching writing, especially in the content of descriptive text.keyword : DEFENDS Strategy, PLEASE Strategy, Writing Competency

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menginvestigasi persepsi guru bahasa Inggris sekolah menengah terhadap penggunaan Flipped Learning di Kabupaten Buleleng, (2) menyelidiki masalah yang dihadapi guru selama menerapkan Flipped Learning, dan (3) mengevaluasi solusi yang guru lakukan untuk memecahkan masalah penggunaan Flipped Learning. Penelitian ini merupakan rancangan penelitian metode campuran yang menggunakan survei cross-sectional sebagai metode. Dengan pengambilan sampel secara purposif, diketahui empat guru bahasa Inggris di sekolah menengah yang telah sedang menerapkan Flipped Learning dalam pengajaran mereka. Mereka berasal dari tiga sekolah menengah negeri di Kabupaten Buleleng. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner dan panduan wawancara sebagai instrumen yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Data kuesioner tersebut diolah dengan menghitung skor rata-rata untuk mengetahui tingkat kualifikasi masing-masing persepsi. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa persepsi guru sangat positif terhadap penggunaan Flipped Learning, dibuktikan dengan skor rata-rata 81.25 yang dikategorikan sangat tinggi. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa Flipped Learning sangat dianjurkan untuk diimplementasikan dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.Kata Kunci : Persepsi, Flipped Learning, ELT This study is aimed at (1) investigating the perception of secondary school English teachers’ perception towards the use of Flipped Learning in Buleleng regency, (2) observing the problems that the teachers encountered during implementing Flipped Learning, and (3) evaluating the solutions that the teachers do to solve the problems. This study was a mixed-method research design which used cross-sectional survey as the method. Purposive sampling was employed to four secondary English teachers who apply Flipped Learning. They came from three public secondary schools in Buleleng regency. This study used a questionnaire and an interview guide as instruments which had been tested for its validity and reliability. The data from the questionnaires were processed by using Arithmetic Statistics in Microsoft Office Excel to calculate the mean score in order to know the qualification level of each perception. The results of data analysis indicated that most of teachers corresponded to very positive perception on the use of Flipped Learning since the mean score was 81.25 which categorized to very high category. The results imply that Flipped Learning is highly recommended to be implemented in the English teaching and learning process.keyword : Perception, Flipped Learning, ELT.

THE EFFECT OF PEER FEEDBACK TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS' WRITING ACHIEVEMENT AT ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN SMA NEGERI 1 KUBUTAMBAHAN By I Ketut Arie Suasti Wahyuni, Nim 1312021236 English Education Department Ganesha University of Education ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to find out the effect of Peer Feedback technique toward students’ writing achievement of Eleventh grade students in SMA Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. This study was a quasi-experimental research which used post-test only control group design. The population of this study was 178 students from eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. The samples of this study were 34 students of XI MIPA2 and 32 students of XI MIPA3 of eleventh grade in SMA Negeri 1 Kubutambahan selected by administering cluster ramdom sampling technique. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive and inferential statistics analysis. It was found that the mean score of the experimental group was 85.62 while the mean score of the control group was 82.48. Abstract

Penelitian dan pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi E-learning Bahasa Inggris untuk tata graha untuk siswa kelas sebelas di SMKN 2 Singaraja. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan langkah-langkah penelitian dan pengembangan oleh Lee dan Owens (2004). Data yang dibutuhkan dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, kuesioner, dan expert judge yang kemudian dianalisis dengan cara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa; (1) jenis materi yang cocok untuk mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris untuk tata graha meliputi topik: escorting guest to the room, entering guest room, taking and delivering laundry, giving direction about surrounding, handling complaint, and preparing for a job interview; (2) dalam mengembangkan materi ini, analisa kebutuhan siswa terlebih dahulu dilakukan melalui wawancara serta observasi praktisi dan guru untuk mendapatkan jenis-jenis materi yang sesuai dengan tugas para siswa saat sudah bekerja di industri pariwisata. Setelah itu, jenis materi yang sesuai kemudian dituangkan dalam bentuk desain yang menggambarkan tiap unit dalam e-learning. Desain tersebut kemudian dikembangkan dalam bentuk e-learning dengan runtutan yang logis dan berdasarkan pendekatan ilmiah (scientific apporach) yang dibarengi dengan expert judgement. Setelah tersusun dengan lengkap, e-learning kemudian diimplementasikan terhadap siswa kelas sebelas jurusan akomodasi perhotelan dan guru di SMKN 2 Singaraja. Setelah diimplementasi, e-learning kemudian dievaluasi melalui kuesioner yang kemudian diisi oleh siswa dan guru. Dari evaluasi tersebut, peneliti kemudian memperbaiki e-learning tersebut.Kata Kunci : Bahasa Inggris untuk Tata Graha, E-learning, Penelitian dan Pengembangan This research and development aimed at developing E-learning English for housekeeping material for the students of eleven grade at SMKN 2 Singaraja. This study followed the steps of Research and Development design which are proposed by Lee and Owens (2004). There were five steps conducted in this study, namely; Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The data of this study were collected through observation, interview, expert judge, and questionnaire. The data were anlyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the study show that: (1) the appropriate materials for teaching English for housekeeping subject should contains these following topics; Escorting guest to the room, entering guest room, taking and delivering laundry, giving directions about surrouding, handling complaint, and preparing for an interview; (2) in order to develop the materials, a design which describes each units of the material should be developed into an e-learning in a good sequences. In completing this e-learning, the next step is to implement it to the students of grade eleven and teachers at SMKN 2 Singaraja. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui keefektifan dari strategi reciprocal questioning yang dikombinasikan dengan numbered heads together pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan experiment dengan design post – test. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja yang dimana populasi dari penelitian ini adalah kelas delapan tahun ajaran 2017/2018 di SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja. Sample dari penelitian ini berjumlah 73 siswa yang diambil menggunakan random sampling. Data dari penelitian ini diambil dengan tes pemahaman membaca yang diberikan kepada siswa dalam bentuk objectives test. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji – T di SPSS 24. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa strategi reciprocal questioning yang dikombinasikan dengan numbered heads together efektif digunakan dalam pemahaman membaca siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja. Hasil dari uji – T yang dianalisis dengan menggunakan SPSS 24 menunjukan nilai signifikansi 0.027. Nilai tersebut kurang dari 0.05. Dalam uji effect size keefektifan dari strategi reciprocal questioning yang dikombinasikan dengan numbered heads together dikategorikan medium dengan nilai 0.5. Jadi dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi reciprocal questioning yang dikombinasikan dengan numbered heads together efektif digunakan pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas delapan yang dikategorikan medium.Kata Kunci : numbered heads together, pemahaman membaca, strategi recirpcal questioning This study was aimed at investigating whether there is a significant effect of reciprocal questioning strategy combined with numbered heads together on reading comprehension of the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja. This study was an experimental study. The design of this study was post – test only control group design. This study was conducted in SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja. The population of this study was the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja in academic year 2017/2018 with the sample of 73 students who were selected by using random sampling. The data were collected using reading comprehension test which given to the students in the form of objectives test. The data were analyzed by using independent samples test assisted with SPSS 24. The result showed that there is an effect of reciprocal questioning strategy combined with numbered heads together on reading comprehension of the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja. The result of independent samples test shows significant value was 0.027. It did not exceed 0.05. In effect size analysis, the result was 0.5. It is categorized as medium. It means that the effect of reciprocal questioning strategy combined with numbered heads together is categorized as medium.keyword : numbered heads together, reading comprehension, reciprocal questioning strategy
