Abstract

Dirancang sebagai penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif, studi ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa-siswa kelas 8 SMP Negeri 1 Seririt beserta sumber-sumber kesalahan yang mempengaruhinya. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 orang siswa kelas 8 SMP 1 Seririt dan objek penelitian ini adalah kesalahan-kesalahan gramatikal yang dilakukan oleh siswa. Dalam penelitian ini, tulisan siswa dianalisis dengan menggunakan taksonomi Azar mengenai tipe-tipe kesalahan dan klasifikasi sumber kesalahan oleh Brown. Hasil studi ini menunjukkan bahwa ada total 447 kesalahan gramatikal yang dilakukan oleh siswa. Tipe kesalahan yang paling dominan ditemukan adalah kesalahan bentuk kata kerja (verb tense) sebanyak 22.82%, diikuti dengan kesalahan diksi (word choice) sebanyak 16.33%, pengurangan kata (omit a word) sebanyak 11.19%, penambahan kata (add a word) sebanyak 10.51%, kapitalisasi (capitalization) sebanyak 7.38%, ejaan (spelling) sebanyak 5.82%, tunggal-jamak (plural-singular) sebanyak (4.47%),tanda baca (punctuation) sebanyak (4.47%), arti tidak jelas (meaning not clear) sebanyak 4.25%, bentuk kata (word form) sebanyak 4.03%, kalimat beruntun (run on sentence) sebanyak 3.36%, kalimat tidak lengkap (incomplete sentence) sebanyak 2.91%, susunan kata (word order) sebanyak 2.01% dan kesalahan artikel (article error) sebanyak 0.45%. Sedangkan sumber kesalahan yang paling dominan ditemukan adalah faktor intralingual (interlingual factor) sebanyak 62.67%, diikuti oleh strategi komunikasi siswa (communication strategy) sebanyak 29.42%, faktor interlingual (interlingual factor), dan konteks pembelajaran (context of learning) sebanyak 0.68%.Kata Kunci : kesalahan gramatikal, analisis kesalahan, teks recount. Designed as descriptive qualitative study, this research aimed at investigating the types of grammatical errors committed by the 8th grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Seririt in writing recount text as well as the sources of error affecting their writing. The subjects of this study were 30 grade 8 students of SMP Negeri 1 Seririt and the objects were grammatical errors committed by the students. In this research, students’ writings were analyzed by using Azar’s taxonomy of types of error and Brown’s classification of sources of error. The result of the study showed that there were 447 total grammatical errors committed by the students. The most frequent type of error committed was verb tense error (22.82%). It was followed by word choice error (16.33%), omit a word error (11.19%), add a word error (10.51%), capitalization error (7.38%), spelling error (5.82%), plural-singular error (4.47%), punctuation error (4.47%), meaning not clear (4.25%), word form error (4.03%), run on sentence (3.36%), incomplete sentence (2.91%), word order error (2.01%) and article error (0.45%). As for the sources of error, intralingual factor was found as the most common source of error affecting the students in writing recount text (62.67%). Then, it is followed by students’ communication strategy (29.41%), interlingual factors (7.42%), and context of learning (0.68%). keyword : grammatical errors, error analysis, recount text.

Abstract

This study intends to investigate kinds of media that used by the English teacher in teaching English at SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar, the way how those media used, the benefits and the weaknesses of using media in teaching English, and the teachers’ reason of using media in teaching English. It utilized qualitative method in collecting the data. The data were collected from observation sheet and interview guide. It also used smartphone to take a picture when the researcher observed teaching-learning process in the classroom. It also used to record the conversation between the researcher and the English teacher in interview section. The obtained data were mainly analyzed based on Heinich, et al (2002) theory about Instructional Media and Technologies for Learning. It showed there are twelve media that used by the English teachers in teaching English at SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. There were some benefits and weaknesses from using media in teaching English which appears based on the way those media used and the conditions in the classroom. Those data was collected by using observation sheet. The data about the English teachers’ reason in using media will be showed by using interview guide. The English teachers stated that media have big impact to increase the students motivation in learning.Kata Kunci : media for teaching English, the way how used media, benefits and weaknesses of media, teachers’ reason of using media Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menyelidiki jenis-jenis media yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar Bahasa Inggris di SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar, cara bagaimana media tersebut digunakan, manfaat dan kelemahan menggunakan media dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris, dan alasan guru menggunakan media dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam pengumpulan data. Data dikumpulkan dari lembar observasi dan panduan wawancara. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan smartphone untuk mengambil gambar ketika peneliti mengamati proses belajar mengajar di kelas. Ini digunakan untuk merekam percakapan antara peneliti dan guru bahasa Inggris di bagian wawancara. Data yang diperoleh terutama dianalisis berdasarkan Heinich, et al (2002) teori tentang Media Instruksional dan Teknologi untuk Belajar. Ini menunjukkan ada dua belas media yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar Bahasa Inggris di SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. Ada beberapa manfaat dan kelemahan dari menggunakan media dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris yang muncul berdasarkan pada cara media tersebut digunakan dan kondisi di kelas. Data-data tersebut dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi. Data tentang alasan guru bahasa Inggris dalam menggunakan media akan ditunjukkan dengan menggunakan panduan wawancara. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penokohan Elizabeth Bennet pada novel Pride and Prejudice karangan Jane Austen. Textual analysis digunakan sebagai metode pada penelitian ini untuk menganalisis penokohan Elizabeth Bennet. Sebagai tokoh utama, Elizabeth Bennet digambarkan secara langsung dan tidak langsung melalui penggambaran dari penulis, tokoh lain, perkataan, tindakan dan penampilan. Sebagai wanita yang memiliki kecerdasan tinggi, Elizabeth Bennet mempunyai kecepatan dalam berpikir, kemampuan mengamati dan memahami situasi. Tapi ia memiliki perasangka buruk terhadap tokoh lain, terutama Darcy. Ia juga seorang yang peduli dan perhatian walaupin ia sering mengabaikan peraturan yang ada di masyarakat. Ia memiliki tubuh yang sehat dan kuat. Meskipun ia digambarkan sebagai seorang wanita yang tidak fashionable, tetapi ia mampu menarik perhatian tokoh lain melalui wajah cantik dan mata indahnya. Dari tingkah lakunya, ia digambarkan sebagai seorang yang berbicara secara langsung dan tajam, keras kepala namun periang. Dari semua penokohannya, Elizabeth Bennet bisa di lihat sebagai tokoh yang sempurna. Ia mempunyai watak yang seimbang antara watak positif dan negatif yang terkombinasi sempurna.Kata Kunci : novel, penokohan, tokoh This study aimed at identifying the characterization of Elizabeth Bennet in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Textual analysis was applied in this study as the method to analyze the characterization of Elizabeth Bennet. As the main character, Elizabeth Bennet is revealed both directly and indirectly through the description from the author, other character, speech, action and appearance. As a woman with a good intelligence, Elizabeth Bennet has quick wit, ability in observing and sensibility. But she has a bad prejudice to others especially Mr. Darcy. She is also a caring and apprehensive woman though she tends to be a heedless woman who ignores the society rules. She has a healthy and strong body. Although she is an unfashionable woman but she can attract others by her beautiful face and her dark eyes. From her attitude, she is revealed as an outspoken, sharp-tongued, headstrong and cheerful woman. From those characterizations, Elizabeth Bennet can be seen as a perfect character. She has the balance characterization between positive and negative characterization which are combined perfectly.keyword : character, characterization, novel.

Abstract

This study was conducted to improve students writing skill using Clustering Technique at seventh grades students of SMPN 6 Singaraja. The Preliminary observation indicated that student class VII B4 of SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja had low writing competency. The subjects of this study were consisted of 36 students. To find out the result of students writing ability in writing competency using clustering technique, the writer used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. This study consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisted of four steps, and they were: planning, action, observation and reflection. To collect and analyze the data, the writer used the information from observation, and the students’ achievement in preliminary and evaluation to support data collected. This study showed that using clustering technique in teaching writing can improve students writing competency.The data were collected through writing evaluation. In clustering technique, the writer can use line, boxes, arrows, and circles to show relationships among the ideas. The students’ responses showed that they were interested in writing because they felt easier to write using clustering technique. The percentage of students who had passed the passing score of writing in pre-observation were 2 students (6%), in cycle I were 14 students (39%), meanwhile in cycle II were improved into 31 students (86%). It could be concluded that the implementation of Clustering technique could improve the students’ writing ability of students class VII B4 at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. And The writer suggested to the other English teacher to use Clustering Technique in teaching writing, because this technique helps the students organize their ideas before they start to write. Key words: Writing competency, Clustering Technique

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis qualitative research aimed at identifying kinds of code that are used by Moslem people in Telagamas Village and analyzing how they used those codes to communicate with each other and other people around this village. There were three domains chosen in this study, namely family, friendship, and neighborhood. The data were collected using two techniques, namely observation, and interview technique. There were three conversations recorded in all domains of language used and the data were analyzed using observation sheet in a form of table. The results of the study show that there were 3 kinds of code used by the Moslem people in Telagamas Village based on 610 utterances that had been analyzed, namely Sasak language, Balinese, and Indonesian. In addition, there were 46 utterances categorized as code switching and code mixing used by the villagers. There were 32 utterances (70%) that belonged to code switching and 14 utterances (30%) to code mixing. Keywords: Code, Code Switching, Code Mixing

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the effect of ICT-based interactive game towards the English achievement of sixth grade students in primary school cluster IV in Sukasada district, in academic year 2016/2017. This study was a quasi-experimental research which used post-test only control group design. The population of this study was 174 students from eight elementary schools in cluster IV in Sukasada district. The samples of this study were 22 students of sixth graders in SD Negeri 3 Sukasada and 22 students of sixth graders in SD Negeri 4 Sukasada selected by administering cluster random sampling technique. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive and inferential statistics analysis. It was found that the result of hypothesis testing (independent t-test) showed that the tobs = 3.256>tcv= 2.018 and the significance value of the data was 0.002 lower than α = 0.05. It can be inferred that there is a significant effect of ICT-based interactive towards students’ English achievement. In conclusion, ICT-based interactive game is an effective teaching media and it is suggested to be applied by teachers to improve students’ English achievement in primary schools. keyword : English achievement, ICT-based interactive game, young learners

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen yang menggunakan Post-Test Only Control Group Design untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh metode PQRST terhadap prestasi membaca siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 3 Sawan. Pada penelitian ini, populasinya adalah siswa kelas VII yang terdiri dari 217 siswa. Ada dua kelompok yang dipilih sebagai sample dan kedua kelas tersebut masing-masing terdiri dari 27 siswa. Kelompok dipilih menggunakan teknik Cluster Random Sampling. Kelas 7 A4 merupakan kelompok eksperimen yang diajarkan menggunakan metode PQRST, sementara kelas 7 A5 merupakan kelompok konrol. Data yang dikumpulkan menggunakan reading test yang terdiri dari 20 soal objektif yang dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferential menggunakan independent t-test. Null Hypothesis pada penelitian ini ditolak karena nilai signifikan adalah 0,000 dan lebih rendah dari nilai alpha yang signifikan (0,05). Selain itu, hasilnya dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata kedua kelompok. Nilai rata-rata kelompok eksperimen adalah 76.85 sedangkan nilai rata-rata kelompok control adalah 60.93. Ini berarti nilai tersebut menunjukan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari metode PQRST pada prestasi membaca siswa kelas VII di SMPN 3 Sawan. Kata Kunci : prestasi membaca siswa, metode PQRST This research was an experimental research which used Post-Test Only Control Group Design to investigate whether or not there is any significant effect of PQRST method on reading achievement in seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Sawan. In this research, the population was the seventh grade students which consist of 217 students. There were 2 groups selected as sample and each group consist of 27 students. The group was chosen by cluster random sampling technique. The 7A4 class as an experimental group was taught by using PQRST method, while the 7A5 class as a control group. The data was collected by reading test consist of 20 questions which analyzed descriptively and inferentially used independent t-test. The Null hypothesis in this study was rejected because the significant value was 0.000 and lower than the significant value of alpha level (0.05). In addition, the result was also proved by the mean score of both groups. The mean score of experimental group was 76.85 while mean score of control group was 60.93. Abstract

Umpan balik koreksi tertulis merupakan salah satu strategi yang paling umum digunakan oleh guru EFL dalam merespon masalah siswa dalam menulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap keyakinan guru dan siswa terkait umpan balik koreksi tertulis dalam pelajaran menulis EFL. Untuk mengumpulkan data penelitian, dua orang guru dan dua puluh orang siswa dari sebuah sekolah menengah atas di Denpasar, Indonesia, diwawancara. Respon mereka lalu ditranskripsi dan dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil dari wawancara menunjukkan bahwa guru memandang umpan balik koreksi tertulis penting dalam meningkatkan akurasi menulis siswa. Namun, mereka juga menyatakan bahwa pemberian umpan balik koreksi tertulis memiliki tantangan tersendiri. Kedua guru memiliki pandangan berbeda terkait umpan balik koreksi tertulis yang efektif untuk diberikan kepada siswa. Salah satu guru lebih memilih menggunakan koreksi langsung, namun di sisi lain, guru yang lain percaya bahwa koreksi tidak langsung adalah yang terbaik. Temuan selanjutnya mengungkapkan bahwa siswa berpendapat umpan balik koreksi tertulis membantu mereka dalam menemukan dan memperbaiki kesalahan dalam tulisan mereka. Namun, terindikasi juga bahwa siswa mengalami beberapa kesulitan dalam memahami umpan balik dari guru mereka. Oleh karena itu, guru perlu menanggulangi masalah adanya koreksi yang belum dipahami oleh siswa, seperti dengan memberikan koreksi yang lebih jelas atau mengadakan diskusi dengan para siswa setelah pemberian koreksi.Kata Kunci : Umpan balik koreksi tertulis, kesalahan, keyakinan guru dan siswa Written corrective feedback is one of the most common strategies used by EFL teachers in responding to students’ problems in writing. The present study aimed to disclose the beliefs of teachers and students regarding written corrective feedback in EFL writing instruction. Two teachers and twenty students from a senior high school in Denpasar, Indonesia were interviewed to gather the data of this study. The response of the participants were transcribed and analyzed qualitatively. The results of the interviews showed that the teachers viewed written corrective feedback as important in improving students’ writing accuracy. However, they also mentioned that providing written corrective feedback had its own challenges. The teachers had contrasting ideas regarding the type of written corrective feedback that is the most effective to be provided. One teacher held a strong preference for direct written corrective feedback, but on the other hand, the other teacher believed indirect written corrective feedback was the best. Further result reveals that the students found written corrective feedback helpful in locating and revising the errors in their writing. However, the result also indicates that the students experienced some difficulties in understanding their teachers’ feedbacks. Because of that, teachers need to tackle the problems on written corrective feedback that is confusing for students, for instance by giving more clear correction or holding a discussion with the students after the provision of the correction.keyword : Written corrective feedback, error, teachers and students' beliefs

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh dari teknik Numbered Heads Together pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas sepuluh di SMA N 2 Singaraja pada tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen yang menggunakan pola Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X Program Matematika dan IPA. Cluster random sampling digunakan dalam menentukan sampel penelitian ini. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah X MIPA 1 yang ditetapkan sebagai kelompok eksperimen yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik Numbered Heads Together dan X MIPA 2 yang ditetapkan sebagai kelompok kontrol yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional. Data dikumpulkan dengan melakukan posttest dan dianalisis secara statistik dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan analisis inferensial. Analisis statistik deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen mencapai skor rata-rata yang lebih tinggi daripada kelompok kontrol di mana kelompok eksperimen mencapai 84,11 dan kelompok kontrol mencapai 79,58. Selanjutnya, analisis statistik inferensial menunjukkan hasil pengujian hipotesis menemukan nilai t hitung (tobs) lebih tinggi dari nilai t tabel (tcv) di mana t hitung (tobs) adalah 3,383 dan nilai t table (tcv) adalah 1.996. Ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis null (Ho) dalam penelitian ini ditolak. Itu menegaskan bahwa ada efek signifikan dari teknik Numbered Heads Together (NHT) pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas sepuluh di SMA N 2 Singaraja pada tahun ajaran 2018/2019.Kata Kunci : Numbered Heads Together (NHT), pemahaman membaca, siswa kelas X, teknik This study aimed at investigating the effect of Numbered Heads Together Technique on reading comprehension of tenth grade students in SMA N 2 Singaraja in academic year 2018/2019. This study was experimental research which used Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population in this research was tenth grade students in Mathematics and Science Program. Cluster random sampling was used in determining the sample of this study. The sample in this study were X MIPA 1 assigned as experimental group taught by using Numbered Heads Together Technique and X MIPA 2 assigned as control group taught by using conventional technique. The data were collected by conducting posttest and analyzed statistically by using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The descriptive statistical analysis showed that the experimental group achieved higher mean score than the control group where the experimental group achieved 84.11 and the control group achieved 79.58. Furthermore, the inferential statistical analysis showed the result of the hypothesis testing found the value of t-observe (tobs) was higher than the t-critical value (tcv) where the t-observe (tobs) was 3.383 and the t-critical value was 1.996. It indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) in this study was rejected. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi berbicara antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik talking chips dan mereka yang menggunkan teknik konvensional. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja dengan sample 64 siswa yang dipilih melalui Cluster Random Sampling. 32 siswa dari kelas VIIIB2 sebegai kelas experimen dimana teknik talking chips diterapkan dan 32 siswa dari kelas VIIIB1 sebagai kelas kontrol dimana teknik konvensional diterapkan. Data diambil melalu tes berbicara dengan menggunakan rubric penilaian dan dianalisis menggunakan t-test.
